Right before Christmas, my new Lip Monthly bag arrived. Sadly, I am too late to recommend this as part of my holiday gift guide, but Valentine’s Day is only 6 weeks away, just sayin’. A subscription to Lip Monthly is certainly a gift to consider for a lipstick lover or a treat for yourself.

Lip Monthly is a monthly subscription that sends out 4 full size mostly lip products along with a cute makeup bag every month. You can buy a single bag for $12.95 or you can choose a 3 month plan for $38.85 or an annual subscription for $155.40. There’s also a Lip Monthly Plus bag that contains 6-7 full size products for $19.95. Shipping is included in all the options.

Like Ipsy subscriptions, as a subscriber you get points for referrals and the person you refer gets $5 off their first purchase. Also  you can redeem your points for products as well as buy products and collections on the Lip Monthly website.

I’m writing this on December 31, and at this point, there are incentives for trying the subscription:

  • $5 for your first Lip Monthly bag with the code DEC5
  • get your first Lip Monthly bag free if you sign up for the 3 month subscription with code 1free
  • get your first 3 Lip Monthly bags free if you sign up for the annual subscription with code 3free
  • $10 for your first Lip Monthly Plus bag FIRST10

The value of the regular size bags ranges from $50-70 and the Plus bag ranges from $80-120.

I was delighted by my first bag, the December Lip Monthly, entitled “Walking In A Winter Wonderland”. It arrived in a hot pink/red mailer with the name, Lip Monthly, on the outside. Inside, there was  a small makeup bag with a cute pattern as well as 4 full size beauty products.

There was a card with the monthly theme. The products represented a mix of indie and well-known brands, 3 lip products and one eyeshadow:

  • Sormé All Day Smooch Proof Lip stain in shade, Fatal: I love the idea of lip stains, but some of them dry the heck out of my already dry lips. I was delighted to discover that Sormé Lip stain doesn’t dry out my lips at all. In fact, it has vitamin E to hydrate and soothe lips. From the look of the felt tipped marker, I thought Fatal was going to be a bright purple because that’s what the tube shows and the swatch on their website does too. Thankfully, on me, it’s a lovely mauve. It lasts on my lips for about 5 hours unless I eat something oily. This lip stain from a cruelty-free, gluten-free indie brand that creates makeup with good-for-you skincare ingredients has become a staple for me. It comes in 6 shades. I’m considering getting another Sormé Lip Stain in red. $17
  • Hikari Lipstick in shade Cabernet: I have tried affordable, cruelty-free Hikari lip and eye products from my regular Ipsy bag, and I like them. Cabernet is a gorgeous deep mauve, perfect for winter. This lipstick has a satin finish, comes in about 10 shades and is comfortable to wear. MSRP $15, now on sale for $5 on the Hikari Cosmetics website
  • Evio Beauty Lip-Spo Liner: Evio Beauty sounds familiar to me, but I’m not sure if I have tried it before. As it says on the very hard to read pencil, “Creamy Lip Pencil” and indeed it is creamy and easy to apply. I love the mauve shade, but I don’t know what the shade name is because I can’t see the white lettering on the pale green pencil. Nevertheless, it’s a great neutral shade that goes perfectly with the Sorme Lipstain and many of my other mauve lipsticks. It’s cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free etc. $13.50 on the Evil Beauty website

  • Cargo Swimmables Longwear Shadow Stick (reviewed here and here) in shade, Morro Bay: I love Cargo’s Swimmables shadow sticks. They are perfect for when I am in a hurry and want some quick but lasting color. Per its name, Swimmables, it is perfect for summer beach wear, but I often reach for them all year round. Morro Bay is a very pretty brown/eggplant shade with a subtle shimmer that I didn’t already have. Thanks, Lip Monthly! $20

The value of the December Lip Monthly Winter Wonderland bag was $65.50, well worth the $12.95 regular price and certainly worth the $5 promotional price! I discovered two new brands, Sormé Cosmetics and Evio Beauty, that I really liked, and I added to my Cargo Swimmables shadow stick collection. Nice!

So if you are a lipstick lover, click over to the Lip Monthly website and take a look. Hopefully, there will be a January promotional offer that just might lure you in.

Happy New Year! All the best in 2020 xoxo

  1. Not only is it a great value but it’s so perfect for you. Colors you love and products you are comfortable wearing. You look excellent in those lip colors.
