I’ve been on a very low buy since the the end of 2019 when I bought too much during the holiday sales. But I did end up making a couple of purchases during Ulta’s recent 21 Days of Beauty half off sale. One of the items was BECCA Ultimate Lipstick Love.
The absolute best part of this lipstick to me is the gorgeous silvery gold case. It is substantial and it has a very impressive magnetic closure. It looks and feels like a luxury lipstick.
Thinking ahead to spring and summer, I chose the cool toned bright pink-coral shade Blaze rather than my usual mauve or red. (Sorry, I didn’t notice that my bandaid was in the photo!)
The pure pigment color is dazzling. BECCA describe Ultimate Lipstick Love as having a “light-reflecting” satin finish from natural, light-reflecting olive and avocado oils. I haven’t yet experienced the light-reflecting quality, but maybe that’s because it seems like it has been cloudy or raining for about a month.
The color is supposed to last for 8 hours. For me, the original look lasts for about 4 hours if I don’t eat or drink. After that, the color fades, but it seems to stain my lips so it looks like I still have lipstick on. If I eat or drink, the lipstick fades at the center of my lips but stays on the outside. So I end up reapplying. But because I love the lipstick tube, I don’t mind taking it out and putting on more.
For me, it takes one or two swipes for an opaque finish. I often don’t pay attention. The swatch below is one swipe.
Ultimate Lipstick Love has hyaluronic acid in the formula to make it feel more hydrating. While the lipstick has enough slip to make it easy to apply, and it feels very comfortable right after I apply it. By the end of the day or evening, my dry lips start to feel dry-ish and somewhat flakey. Truth be told, this happens to my lips when I wear any pure pigment lipstick. Too bad for me. I don’t think most people would experience dryness with this formula.
Nevertheless, the Blaze pink-coral shade is flattering for my skin tone, and it is a welcome change of pace from my usuals. I intend to wear it this summer if things become more normal. At this point, I don’t wear lipstick everyday because I’m at home.
BECCA Ultimate Lipstick Love has a regular price of $24. I was very happy to get it for $12, and I’m glad I bought it.
It comes in 30 wide ranging shades that are broken down by undertone as well as shade family, making it fairly easy to choose a shade even if you’re not at a store to see it in person. The lipstick bullet contains 12 oz. I think it will last me a long time.
