Project Pan Update: June Beauty Empties

June was a rather sparse month for my empties especially compared to May when I used up 12 products, but it is what it is.

Here’s what I used up and my thoughts on whether it’s worth repurchasing.

beauty products I used up in June 2020

Skincare

  • Clarins Extra Firming Yeux/Eyes: Although this was an excellent fragrance-free, thick, white firming cream in an airless pump, I liked it most for winter/cold weather use. Repurchase? No, not now in summer, and though I liked it, there are other firming eye creams that I like more.
  • Theraderm Clinical Skincare Eternox Peptide Creme: This fabulous lightweight anti-aging cream in a pump dispenser came as part of a skincare regimen, Theraderm Clinical Skincare Kit. I am almost finished with two more of the products, and I am so sad that I am using it all up. Repurchase? I honestly don’t know what to do. I receive so many skincare products for testing that it doesn’t make sense to spend $230 on the full size Theraderm Anti-aging Skincare kit right now. But in the future, I certainly would consider buying this set of cleanser/toner/serum/anti-aging moisturizer because I found them so effective and pleasant to use. BTW, you can try out the set by purchasing the travel size set for $30, well worth the price. If I were traveling, I would definitely buy it now.

Bath & Body

  • Nature Island Botanicals Sea Berry & Amber Spa Bar Soap: One of my top two favorite handmade bar soaps from Daphne at Nature Island Botanicals. I love the blue & green swirled colors, the scallop shell, and the fresh sea berry and amber scent. It makes loads of rich lather and leaves my skin feeling soft. Repurchase? Yes, I already did, but unfortunately it didn’t come with a scallop shell this time. But I still love it!
  • Tony Moly Peach Hand Cream, travel size: This is the peachiest scented, rich pink hand cream that makes my overly dry hands from endless washing feel soothed, smoothed and protected. I have purchase this in the past in the adorable peach shaped container. Repurchase? Not right now because I bought 2 huge containers of hand cream from RITUALS during their recent sale. But I strongly recommend Tony Moly Peach Hand Cream for lovers of peach scents. And it’s currently on sale at Ulta!

Makeup

  • Revlon Kiss Lip Balm & Treatment SPF 20, Sweet Cherry: It took two years, but I did it. I used up my tube of Revlon Kiss Lip Balm SPF 20! I really liked this semi-sheer lip balm with sunscreen. It was my go-to lip product when I was hanging around the house and yard or for when I was exercising or doing something outdoors in the pre-mask days. Repurchase? Yes. It is still available on the Ulta website and on Amazon. It comes in 5 shades including clear.

So that’s it for this month in terms of empties. I only used up 5 beauty products that hasn’t helped my year-end goal of 130 all that much.  My total of empties for the year at the halfway point is 46. If I continue at this rate, I won’t make my goal and I won’t even have reached 100. But I’ll keep going!

Expired Products

As I mentioned above, I get so many skincare products to try each year that I often have to move on to something else before I have finished I product I was using. And then I forget about them. Ugh. Two of the products I am tossing fall into that category.

beauty products that have either expired or that I don't like and I'm throwing them out

  • Derma MD Pink Silk: I completely forgot about this pink-tinted dimethicone primer gel. I am a fan of dimethicone because it works well with my skin, and does help even out the look of fine lines. Unfortunately, this product smells slightly off or stale, so out it goes.
  • Rodale + Fields Redefine, Step 1 Daily Cleansing Mask: Daily Cleansing Mask could never been a daily cleanser for me because it has exfoliating grit in it. Even though it has a hydrating formula, the thick white lotion is too scratchy and harsh for my skin. Plus it is highly fragranced, and though I like fragrances, I am not crazy about highly fragranced skincare products. Repurchase? Definitely not.
  • Yensa Super 8 Lip Oil: I got this tube of glossy Yensa Super 8 Lip Oil in one of my Ipsy Plus Bags a couple of months ago. I actually hate it. It is too oily and slippery, and it “tastes” chemically. Ugh. I figured why am I keeping it around because I never use it. If you’re look for an excellent lip oil, choose Clarins instead.

    1. I hope that you will try some of Daphne’s gorgeous handmade fragrant skin loving bar soaps. Because of Covid-19, the craft fairs that she usually participates in have all been cancelled. I have been trying to order from Nature Island Botanicals via Etsy or Facebook this year instead.

  1. You are halfway there and this year is far from typical. If you get close to 100 then you’re doing fabulous. I haven’t used up much but I’ve tossed a lot.

    1. My goal for 2020 was 130 empties since I exceeded my 2019 goal by so much. I guess I was overconfident when I made this year’s goal back in December. But who could have foreseen this weird year, right? I will be happy with whatever I finish up!
