Project Pan: October 2020 Beauty Empties

I’m making progress as the year 2020, thankfully, winds down.

Here’s what I used up in October! As usual, some of the products don’t go in the category I put them in, but I’m too lazy to retake the photos, lol.

I Bought This, PR Sample, Affiliate Links

Bath & Body

RITUALS The Ritual of Ayurveda Foaming Shower Gel: I love RITUALS’ Foaming Shower Gels, all of them. This is the 2nd or 3rd bottle of spicy Ayurveda that I’ve used up in the past couple of years. It’s one of my favorite RITUALS scents. Repurchase? Eventually. Right now, I have Sakura and Karma in my shower and Hamman in my stash. If you haven’t tried RITUALS Foaming Shower Gels, you should. You can buy them at Ulta where you can use coupons as well as at Macy’s in addition to the RITUALS website and stores.

Molton Brown Muddled Plum Bath & Shower Gel: The MB Muddled Plum continues to be my favorite shower gel. I just can’t get enough of the warm plum and rum scent. Repurchase? I had two more in my stash. Molton Brown has brought Muddled Plum Shower Gel and Body Lotion back for the holiday season. If you like scented body products, you really should try it! It comes in a round festive bauble ornament as well for $15, a good way to try it; available on moltonbrown.com. BTW, although not Muddled Plum which they don’t carry, other Molton Brown products are 25% off now on Lookfantastic.com

BeeSpa Ultra Moisturizing Hand & Foot Cream, mini: I really liked this yellow, natural, lightly scented body balm. I was scent the smaller size mini to try out, but they have a full size that would be better because I went through this one rather quickly. Repurchase? I may, but I have two other body balms that I am trying out now. The mini would make a good stocking stuffer or addition to a gift basket.

Estée Lauder Youth Dew Soap: I bought an Estée Lauder Youth Dew fragrance collection several years ago after I got a makeover at the EL shop at a local Macy’s. When I cleaned out my bedroom for the carpeting installation in September, I found it. The soap was divine, if you’re a lover of the Youth Dew scent like I am. Repurchase? I am not sure if it can be purchased separately, and I haven’t found it except on Ebay where it is used, boo. I’ll keep an eye out. It is very fragrant, so it is good as a body soap, not face.

Zum Bar Frankincense and Myrrh Goat’s Milk Bar Soap: I’ve become a fan of Zum Bar Goat’s Milk Bar Soaps.  They lather like crazy, but don’t leave behind a greasy residue. Yet they are not drying. Really nice soaps. I think this one was Frankincense and Myrrh. It had a beautiful spicy scent, and I liked it. Repurchase? I will buy some Zumi soaps again in the future because they have a million scents I want to try. I am going to see if I can find it in a store locally. I also want to try their laundry detergent, and I think Shaw’s, a local supermarket chain, carries it.

Lindi Lip Balm: I got this unscented, natural lip balm to try out years ago. The Lindi skincare collection was developed for patients undergoing radiation treatments so the products are free of scents and harsh chemicals. Repurchase? No, I have other lip balms I prefer. But if you or anyone you know is going through chemo or radiation and needs extremely gentle, clean beauty skincare, I definitely recommend Lindi Skincare.

Skincare

City Beauty City Lips Clear: Obviously, I should have put City Lips and Lindi Lip Balm together in the same category, but whatever. You know I adore City Lips Clear. It is my go-to, year round lip balm. Repurchase? I have two waiting in the wings that I bought when it was on sale.

City Beauty Advanced Eye Cream: I really liked the fluffy, white, very hydrating City Beauty Advanced Eye Cream. It felt soothing to pat on all around my eye area. Repurchase? Right now, I am using two other of my favorite eye gels, but I may buy it again in the future during a CB sale.

Dr. Botanicals Apothecary Pomegranate Superfood Regenerating Sleeping Mask: I was glad that I got to try out this pricey, vegan sleeping mask that I got in one of my recent Ipsy Plus bags. It’s a rich, white cream. I used it over serums at night. Even though it was a rich cream, I didn’t find it to be as hydrating as I was expecting. Repurchase? No. But if you’re interested in any Dr. Botanicals vegan skincare products, they are on sale on Lookfantastic for 25% off along with other of their favorite vegan brands.

Nude Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly: Although I really liked this thick, cleansing jelly that turned to lotion when water hits it, I have a couple of other cleansing jellies to finish up. Also, the large tube lasts a very long time. Repurchase? Not now.

V10 skincare samples: I still have several other V10 skincare samples to try out. But I liked these three, especially the LX Advanced Lifting Cream Treatment and the Biocell Serum. Purchase? I will keep my eyes open to see if V10 has any significant sales because the Lifting Cream is $94, and even the 15% off discount that you can get for signing up for emails isn’t enough.

Makeup

Beautyblender Blendercleanser Solid: I’ve used a lot of these Blendercleanser Solid brush cleansers over the years. They work well and are easy to use. Repurchase? I did. But it’s one of those staples that I like to buy during the Sephora sale this week.

Judith August Orange Masking Creme Dark Circle Concealer: I prefer cream concealers to liquids because they work better for me. I love this one because it comes with three different shades so you can mix and match and blend. Repurchase? Yes, I did.

Benefit BadGal Bang Mascara, travel size: I think that Benefit mascaras are my favorite mascaras, though I sometimes use and buy others as well. I have gone through several BadGal Bang mascaras including another one last month. I like the lengthening formula and the wand with the short plastic teeth. Repurchase? I have another in my stash. I buy the travel size when it’s on sale because I think travel size gets used up faster and the formula doesn’t thicken or go off.

Tarte Cosmetics Surfer Curl Sweatproof Mascara: I got this full size mascara from Tarte in an Ipsy Plus bag during the summer, and I really liked it. The formula was both lengthening and volumizing, and it did help my lashes hold a curl. Unfortunately, as time went on, the formula thickened, and it became too difficult for me to use. Repurchase? No.

Hair Care

Sebastian Penetraitt Conditioning Treatment: I used to use this product years ago, and I decided to try it again this past year. My coarse hair has either gotten burnt from my flat iron or as a result of menopause. Penetraitt helps, but doesn’t get rid of it. Repurchase? I bought a second tube a while ago.

NatureLab Tokyo Repair Conditioner: I think the NatureLab Tokyo Repair collection is the right one for my hair. Repurchase? I plan to buy the Repair Shampoo again, but my hair is so damaged from whatever it is that I am sticking to thick treatment products like Sebastian Penetraitt and JOICO K-PAK Treatment right now.

Fragrance

Molinard Ambre EDP: I got this 30 day supply from Scentbird several months ago, and I definitely liked this spicy amber oriental fragrance. Repurchase? I will get a full size bottle eventually. In fact, I almost bought one on sale from PerfumesOnline.ca recently, but it was sold out. I just bought another full size scent, so this will have to wait, but it’s on sale on Amazon, 2 bottles left at a good price.

Nails

Morgan Taylor React Base Coat: I really liked Morgan Taylor React Base Coat, and I have bought a couple of bottles of it over the years. It was easy to use, and it seemed to help somewhat. Repurchase? No, I just bought a bottle of KBShimmer Fillin’ Groovy Ridge Filling Base Coat, and I think, so far, that it works better than the Morgan Taylor at preventing tip wear. I have gotten just about a week of wear of my new gorgeous KBShimmer Stay Toasty My Friends.

Expired Beauty Products

I’ve been trying to go through more of my stash and get rid of old, expired and unusable products, though I am making very slow progress. Here are four that I’m tossing.

Seche Base Ridge Filling Base Coat: Unfortunately, I do not like white base coats. You have to be so careful that you cover them completely with polish, and since I can’t see close up anymore without reading glasses, it is too hard to use. Plus, this bottle is OLD!

Farmhouse Fresh Honey Lavender Sea Salt Scrub and Splendid Dirt Pumpkin Mask: I received both of these travel size jars in different collections. Unfortunately, I forgot about them both and I don’t really remember them that well. They both dried out. The Honey Lavender Sea Salt smelled good, if you like lavender like I do. I don’t really remember the Splendid Dirt Pumpkin Mask, but I think it was for oilier skin than mine, and there are other Farmhouse Fresh masks that I prefer.

Good Earth Beauty Strawberry Lip Scrub: I loved the flavor of GEB Strawberry Lip Scrub, but I forgot I had it and it is old now. I’m afraid to use it on my lips where I can ingest it, so out it goes.

Progress on Project Pan

I did well this month using up 18 beauty products, not counting the sample packets or the tosses. At the end of last month, I had used up a total of  81   beauty products. Now I am at 99 empties so far for 2020. Though it is doubtful that I will make my original goal of 130 empties, I will definitely exceed 100. Good enough!

How about you? What did you use up this month?

  1. I am VERY impressed by how many products you used up in October, Allison! I need to go through the products that I haven’t used in a while to see if they have expired and need to be tossed out!
Lola Seicento recently posted…I VOTEDMy Profile

  2. I am impressed! I recently redid my vanity table and went through products and ditched quite a few. There are more that need to go. Not going to buy anything at the Sephora sale that is upcoming. Since I usually just use cleansing products and moisturizers lately and I would need to go down to the mall, I have decided to skip it. I prefer to go to Ulta which is a stand alone store and much closer. Also I have been using drug store products which are saving me a ton of money! Or buying from websites or Amazon.

    1. Happy to hear from you, Sandy! Sounds like you’ve been making good progress at purging old stuff. I have so much more to go through. I just used a Nordstrom note to buy a new shade of MAC lipstick, and I ended up paying $2.16 for it, yay. I will buy a Milk Makeup Mascara at the Sephora sale, but there’s nothing else that I need, at least that I’m aware of. I am going to see if Sephora has curbside pickup since I don’t think my purchase will qualify for free delivery. I don’t want to have to go into the mall to go to Sephora either. That’s great that you’re using drug store products lately. Both CVS and certain Walgreens carry such great brands especially when it comes to skincare. L’Oreal has a mascara I’d like to try eventually (Bambi eyes), and I think both Revlon and Maybelline have gorgeous lipsticks. Be well!

  3. Very impressive amount. You are on the right track. 130 is a lot to try for so don’t feel bad if you only come close. I tossed two Osmotics products last night since the expiration date was 2019 and I had to toss an almost finished City Beauty night mask because it spilled.

    1. Thank you, Marcia! I think I have a couple of Osmotics lipsticks that were gorgeous shades but they dried out my lips so I seldom wore them. I know they have expired. Thanks for reminding me. Sorry to hear about the CB Night Mask mishap!
