Estee Lauder DayWear BB Anti-Oxidant Beauty Benefit Creme SPF 35

Recently, I returned a bottle of unopened Estée Lauder Resilience Lift liquid foundation. What was I thinking when I bought it? BB creams have me so spoiled. I hate having to apply primer and sunscreen (although this may have had sunscreen in it, not sure). And I find liquid foundation so much harder to apply. You may not agree, but that’s how I feel.

Fortunately, they exchanged it for Estée Lauder DayWear BB Anti-Oxidant Beauty Benefit Creme SPF 35 (although I owed them about a dollar more, it was worth it!). And they were very generous to throw in the current Estée Lauder gift with purchase at Macy’s that I reviewed a couple of weeks ago. A win win all around!

The Estée Lauder Daywear BB Cream comes in a 1 ounce tube and is a good size for travel. It easily fits in a makeup bag. It comes in only 2 shades — light and medium — which is too bad because it leaves out a lot of women. Nevertheless, I purchased Light. It’s a good match for my skin tone. It’s very easy to apply. It provides light to medium coverage, and unfortunately, my sun damage comes through. Putting an extra dab on those spots helps a little, but I’m better off applying concealer.

The BB cream feels good on my skin, and the product contains sodium hyaluronate which attracts moisture and is good for my dry skin.  In fact, Allure.com just chose Estée Lauder Anti-oxidant BB Creme as one of their 17 Best BB/CC Creams. However, I was a little surprised when I looked in the mirror last night after wearing the BB cream for about 6 hours how dry the area around my eyes looked. Today, I used a little more eye cream and after 6 hours, it looks much better. However, I know not everyone puts on moisturizer and eye cream before using a BB cream because it’s already supposed to be in there. And since it’s a “hydrating BB cream”, I shouldn’t have to be worried about it looking dry after several hours. But for women with oily or even less dry skin than mine or for younger women, I don’t think it will be an issue.

One of the things I really like about this product is that it has SPF 35 which is much higher than the Estée Lauder moisturizers that have SPF 15. It provides broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays with both chemical and physical sunscreen barriers: Octinoxate, Octisalate, Oxybenzone, and Titanium Dioxide. Because the ingredients are mostly chemical sunscreens, this BB cream does not give a “white face” appearance.

The Estée Lauder DayWear website emphasizes the anti-oxidants in this and the other DayWear products:

“Every DayWear formula includes our proprietary, all-day Super Anti-Oxidant Complex — so powerful, no anti-oxidant we’ve researched comes close.*

It helps neutralize every key type of skin-damaging free radical, stopping these molecules before they can damage your appearance.

Proprietary Blend

Our optimized blend of skin-essential anti-oxidants, including Vitamins C and E, Eukarion and EGT, is proven to fight free radical damagethat can lead to visible aging.

All-Day Protective Power

Innovative technology allows the Super Anti-Oxidant Complex to be “recycled” all day long, providing continuous anti-oxidant protection long after it would normally be used up.

In vitro testing, comparing the proprietary Super Anti-Oxidant Complex with widely used anti-oxidants such as Alpha-lipoic acid, Kinetin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Coenzyme Q10 and Idebenone.”

Frankly, there are so many ingredients in this product, I wonder whether there is enough of the anti-oxidants to really do anything, but it’s worth a try.

In sum, this is a good BB cream. Although I still like Dr. Jart Premium BB Cream because its heavier formula does a somewhat better job covering my sun damage and it seems more moisturizing over the course of several hours, I like and will wear the Estée Lauder DayWear BB Cream. I like the way looks, it’s lightweight which is especially good for the warmer weather, and the smaller size tube is great for travel.

The price for 1 oz. is $39, and the Estée Lauder DayWear BB Cream is widely available at department stores and online. It is dermatologist-tested, non-acnegenic, and oil-free. It’s made in Belgium.

Guten-free?: no, barley extract included and unsure of the source of the tocopherol

Animal testing?: I think Lauder products are tested on animals
