Ageless Derma Special Clay Masque

Over the past few months, I have had an opportunity to try a few products from Ageless Derma, a premium skincare brand from California that was created by a physician for use in his medical spa. The products are based on science and nature, and they include many natural ingredients. I have liked the products I’ve tried so far very much. And they have an informative and interesting website.

Recently, I was sent Ageless Derma Special Clay Masque to try.

Clay is very effective in taking care of oily skin and drawing out excess oil and impurities. Not surprisingly, the masque is targeted to those with oily skin or acne. The copy on the tube says: “This special blend of clays, together with sulfur-rich ichthammol, naturally cleanses and purifies oily and problematic skin.”

The website goes on to further describe some of the special natural ingredients:

The Clay Masque is made of all natural ingredients. One special ingredient, Ichthammol is made of shale oil, which has anti-inflammatory properties and also fights bacteria and fungi. Methyl Gluceth comes from corn sugar and starch and is an emmollient that soothes the skin. Methyl Gluceth has the ability to open pores and follicles, a huge plus in an activating clay masque. It’s a safe and gentle natural ingredient.

The earth’s minerals used in Ageless Derma’s Natural Clay Masque include Titanium Dioxide, which helps protect the skin from ultraviolet rays and prevent wrinkles. Magnesium Aluminum Silicate is a mineral found in natural clay that has been proven very safe to use on the skin. Allantoin is extracted from the comfrey root. It heals the inflamed skin caused by acne and stimulates new cell growth, indicating an anti-aging effect. There are also vitamins in Ageless Derma’s masque, including Vitamin B5 taken from rice husks. This works to rejuvenate skin cells and silken the skin.

Because I have dry skin, I was a little concerned at first that it might strip my skin. But with the beneficial ingredients in the formula and the fact that the ingredient list is really short, I decided to give it a shot.

The Special Clay Masque comes in Ageless Derma’s simple, clean packaging: a white tube with gray lettering. The masque itself is brown like mud, but it’s very smooth and easy to apply. It has a strong-ish scent of natural clay. To me, it smelled like charcoal, but maybe that was the “sulfur-rich ichthammol” from “shale oil” that I was smelling. I liked the smell because it was a very natural scent, like something straight from the earth. And the unusual scent made me think it was working. I wet my face, applied a thin layer of the masque, and I left it on for about 10 minutes, per the directions. It dried quickly.

I washed the masque off with tepid water, and my skin felt great: cleansed, smooth, and NOT DRY at all. I put on moisturizer, and I was good to go. Now that I know how it performs, I will not hesitate to use it again, and in fact, I already have. Someone with oily skin should use it on a regular basis. The website says that the product can also be used as a “spot treatment” on breakouts to help them heal faster.

Ageless Derma Special Clay Masque is 2 oz./56 g, and it is made in the U.S. The price is $25.  It can be purchased at Amazon where it’s now on sale for $22, on DrSkinSpa.com where you can get 20% off if you spend over $45, and on the Ageless Derma website that provides free shipping and where you can read more about the product.

    1. It is an interesting masque especially for those with oily skin, though I have very dry skin and I’ve used it several times and had no problem. What is also intriguing is using it as a spot treatment for breakouts. That said, it has an unusual scent, very earthy so it may not be for everyone but it makes me feel like it working. As far as a moisturizing lotion goes, OWN at Ulta and Whole Foods makes a nice, relatively lightweight moisturizer. It’s in a jar, however, not a bottle. Check out the OWN line next time you’re at either store. It’s a quality line that priced around drugstore prices. I would not recommend the other night moisturizers that I use as they would be too heavy for you.

    1. That’s good to hear, Emma! I really like their products. The Stem Cell & Peptide Anti-Wrinkle Cream is one of my faves. I love the innovative airless pump jar and the gel formula. Have you tried any of the AD products?
