Haus Laboratories Le Riot Lipgloss

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

Haus Laboratories Sparkle Lipstick in Burlesque, the stunning red shade with gold shimmer, is one of my favorite bullet lipsticks.

As I’ve mentioned before, oddly – at least in my mind – Burlesque is the only shade of traditional bullet lipstick that Haus Laboratories makes. Boo.

But when Haus Laboratories had a 30% off Second Anniversary sale a couple of weeks ago, I decided that it was a good time to try their Le Riot lipgloss.

I bought two:

I’ve mentioned many times that my favorite lipgloss is Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss, shade Caramel, an opaque pink-brown that looks mauve to me. I wear it alone as a glossy, hydrating lipgloss. I haven’t found any lipgloss yet that I love more. But because I love HL Burlesque, I figured I should see if they could best ABH Caramel.

First, their packaging looks like lots of other Haus Laboratories products with black ombre coloring. Although the square shape is innovative and makes it easy to stand it up, it’s a little thick and blocky. Not an issue if you leave it at home, but if you carry it in a purse makeup bag, it seems to take up more room than a tube. A plus, however, is the clear bottom of the inner tube that shows the color of the gloss.

Blaze is a lightly opaque rose gloss. Unlike ABH, it has no scent/taste that I think is a good thing. Plus it is lightweight and non-sticky. It doesn’t wander too much, but when I remember a clear lipliner or MAC Prep ‘n Prime is a good move.

The rose shade is pretty, but it isn’t quite as pigmented and super shiny as ABH Caramel, but it’s a great everyday lipgloss. It’s an MLBB shade on my lips. I’m glad I bought it.

Werk was the shade I was most excited about. I’m always on the lookout for an opaque red lipgloss. Strangely, ABH doesn’t have one. So when my package arrived from Haus Laboratories, Werk was the product I grabbed first. Werk is a sheer bright red rather than the opaque I was looking for. Duh, I should have known since the shade is clearly described on the HL website as “Sheer Bright Red”. Oh well. Translucent glossy red is a good option to wear as an everyday shade when I’m in the mood for red rather than mauve. I think the sheerness makes red more wearable, less in your face.

After wearing it over an hour or so, Werk noticeably migrated into my lip lines. Ugh. So disappointing. But I have discovered that if I use lipliner (I needed to sharpen the lipliner that I used in the photo, but I was too lazy to retake the photo. Sorry the lower lipliner is waaay too thick) or wear MAC Prep ‘n Prime, it stays put. Like Blaze, Werk is fragrance-free, lightweight and non-sticky.

The curved applicator is terrific because it’s lip-shaped, and it makes for super easy application.

Final Thoughts on Haus Laboratories Le Riot Lipgloss

What I like about the Haus Laboratories Le Riot lipglosses is that they are fragrance/taste-free, lightweight and non-sticky. Those benefits are a big deal. But I don’t love them as much as my favorite, Caramel, from ABH because Caramel’s pigmentation and opacity is superior.

Nevertheless, I’m glad I took advantage of the sale and tried the HL glosses.

Le Riot lipglosses come in 31 shades including almost clear, black, gold and a variety of traditional and a couple non-traditional shades as well as a variety of finishes (shimmers, sparkles, and regular shiny glosses etc.) At $18 each, they are $2 more than ABH. Haus Laboratories Le Riot lipglosses are sold on the HL website and on Amazon. Cruelty-free and vegan.
