One of my favorite makeup discoveries from 2021 was one that I got in an Ipsy Plus Bag: Half-Caked Totally Tubular Mascara, The Heights. I know I’ve said this several times, but I was shocked that I loved this tubing mascara because they usually gross me out. Not so Half-Caked Totally Tubular because the tubes seem to melt away when I remove my makeup with Micellar Water. Also I loved the lengthening formula and my preferred wand type: plastic teeth.
Although I hadn’t completely used up my tube of The Heights, the lengthening mascara, I think the tube was approaching 6 months old, and I thought I should probably replace it. I hoped that Half-Caked would have a holiday sale like every other makeup brand, but it didn’t. Nevertheless, their prices are cheap enough. I decided to buy a new tube on Amazon because I could get free shipping via Prime. So even though the mascara was priced $2 higher on Amazon than on the Half-Caked website, it was a better deal when I factored in the free Prime shipping.
Although I really loved The Heights, this time I decided to try The Ultimate, one of Half-Caked’s four versions.
I honestly can’t tell whether the formula is the same or different from The Heights. But what is different is the shape of the wand head. While The Heights wand head is straight, the head for The Ultimate is curved to fit one’s lash line.
Usually I’m not a big fan of those curved wand heads, but this one is different, the head seems to move a bit during application so it fits the shape of my lash line better. Cool. And I will save the wand from The Heights in case I feel like using a straight wand with this version of Half-Caked Mascara.
The formula applies easily, and it seems pretty similar to The Heights. No clumping, no flaking. I would say it’s a lengthening mascara with some volumizing. I really like it.

Sounds like a winner. I’ve got enough new mascaras to last for all of 2022 but when I get bored I often buy a new one so I’ll keep this on a list.

How often do you think we should switch to a new mascara?
We’re supposed to throw out mascara every 3 months. I regret to say I don’t do that, more like every 6 months. But when I can, I buy travel size instead of full size mascara
