Is Maybelline’s Colossal Curl Bounce Mascara a pass or a fail?

I Bought This

Maybelline‘s newest mascara campaign is all about The Colossal Curl Bounce Mascara. There are several variations of it and I bought the original. The ads are pretty amazing. I guess that happens when you have that much money. Curl Bounce Mascara promises to give big volume bouncy curl and up to 24 hour wear. I bought Very Black which is lighter than the other shade Blackest Black. Believe me though this is very black.

Now let’s talk about their promises and if it keeps them?

  • Bouncy Curl: not for me. I’ve worn it with and without curling my eyelashes and neither gives me any curl let alone bouncy curl. My lashes end up looking quite straight, sadly enough.
  • As you can see the brush itself is curved which usually helps me when I use brushes like this. It didn’t help this time.
  • Big Volume: yes I had volume but that’s about it. It dried crunchy and even with added coats it wasn’t really a great volume. What I didn’t have was definition since it felt clumpy to me.

It is Flake Resistant and it is Smudge Resistant so I’ll give it that. But I haven’t been happy with how my lashes look. I feel like it pulls my lashes down actually.

Another thing is removal. It’s washable but I end up with tiny flakes all over my eye area when I go to remove it. Whether I use a washcloth and water or a dedicated eye makeup remover, I still have little flakes. I then have to wash to make sure they are removed.

I’m sure you know by now that I personally consider this a fail. Everyone is different with their lashes and mascara choices so if you already have long lush lashes this might be a good choice for you. But for my shorter, straight lashes this just doesn’t cut it.

Have you tried this? If so how was it for you?

  1. Wow, what a disappointment for you! Because I like plastic teeth and lengthening, I probably wouldn’t try this. When it comes to mainstream mascaras, I’ve had better luck with L’Oreal than with Maybelline. But I agree that preferences and results with mascara are so individualized!

    1. I’ve enjoyed some Maybelline mascaras but I do agree that L’Oreal is better. Still after the ads and the article I read I expected much more from this. I tossed it which isn’t typical of me.

  2. I havent tried this one, but it also sounds like I wouldn’t like it. I reeeeallly prefer mascaras that offer definition to lashes! A lot of mascaras can clump up my lashes and I’m too lazy to keep combing through!
