My Vegamour Healthy Hair Journey, including Dry Shampoo Giveaway

About a year ago, I noticed that my hair was getting thinner and sparser in the front of my hairline. I mentioned it to my hair colorist and stylist, and they both told me they hadn’t noticed any difference. I didn’t believe them.

Since my hair is still so thick in the back, it is somewhat easy to ignore the thinning in the front. Plus I have bangs, and that helps camouflage the fact that my hairline has been receding. But if you look at the photo directly below taken in 2019, and then the photo taken a couple of weeks ago, I have visibly less hair in my bangs than I used to.

Plus, I have less hair on the left side of my bangs than on the right, and it is not just due to my left side part.

To help my hair color fade less, I wash my hair every 4-6 days. I end up with a lot of hair in the drain. I know that some of that is the fact that if I washed my hair more often, I would see less hair in the drain. Nevertheless, it is a reminder that I have less hair than I used to. Ugh.

Last fall, Vegamour sent me a variety of their cruelty-free, vegan, healthy hair and scalp products to try out for review. Here’s their statement about the Vegamour product line:

Our topical and nutritional supplement products contain sustainably harvested, organic plant actives that have been clinically shown to help improve visible hair growth, help reduce fallout and repair follicle damage while protecting the hair from external aggressors. Vegamour formulas are designed to work in tandem to create the optimal ecosystem for healthy, abundant hair.

GRO Biotin Gummies for Hair

I just looked back to see which of the products I have already reviewed, and I was shocked to find out that I must have received their yummy Vegamour GRO Biotin Gummies a two years earlier because I reviewed them twice: in August 2019 and again in October 2021! I love them because, not only are they so delicious (natural strawberry flavor), but they are also heart-shaped and I collect hearts.

Plus, with 5000mg of biotin, they help my hair and nail grow stronger and stay healthier. Although pricey ($28 for a 30 day supply), I have repurchased Vegamour Biotin Gummies, and will continue to do so from time to time as a treat from the more pedestrian biotin tabs I had been taking.

Biotin Gummies Ingredients: Tapioca Syrup, Cane Sugar, Distilled Water, Dextrose, Citric Acid (Anhydrous), Natural Flavors and Colors, MCT Oil

GRO Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner

Vegamour sent me GRO Revitalizing Shampoo and Revitalizing Conditioner Kit The products are free of sulfates, silicones, parabens, gluten, and artificial fragrance.

The two products are sold together on their website. To me, selling them as a duo is a negative since I use up shampoo at a much faster rate than conditioner). The price of the product duo is now $86, $10 less than the regular price. A subscription brings down the price further.

You may think I’m crazy, but I have this weird regimen for how I use the Vegamour shampoo and conditioner in concert with my regular haircare products. Because I love Olaplex Bonding Shampoo for how it saved my hair that I had burnt with my old flat iron, I continue to use Olaplex on the hair on the back and sides of my head. I also love the billowy suds that Olaplex makes with just a little bit of shampoo. I save the Vegamour GRO Revitalizing Shampoo for the hair on the top of my scalp as well as along my front hairline where my problem is. The GRO Shampoo is also an excellent shampoo, and it is color-safe and sulfate-free. It’s a clear, thick gel with a very light fresh scent that comes in the plastic, flip-top tube. It suds well, cleans gently and is easy to rinse out.

Likewise, I have an idiosyncratic plan for conditioning my hair. First, I apply Matrix Total Results Keep Me Vivid Color Lamination Spray, and leave it on for a minute. To be honest, I don’t know if it helps with my color, but I’ve been using it for a couple of years and this is my second or third bottle. Next, I apply Vegamour Revitalizing Conditioner to the top of my scalp and along the front hairline. It is a medium weight white conditioner with the same light, fresh scent as the shampoo. The scent is faint and does not linger. On the rest of my hair, I use my longtime favorite, JOICO K-Pak Luster-Lock Treatment.

Here’s Vegamour’s description of Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner from the website:

Enhanced with clinically proven plant actives and our proprietary Karmatin™ (the first-of-its-kind vegan keratin), this clean, color-safe duo was made to bring you your shiniest, healthiest hair yet.

Truly far from ordinary, GRO Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner utilize microencapsulated vegan b-SILK™ protein which physically bonds to hair follicles and remains attached to strands even after rinsing, making these nourishing formulas the world’s first chemical-free keratin hair treatment products. Wild harvested marula oil, organic murumuru butter and ximenia oil help to condition, hydrate and fight damaging free radicals without imparting pore-blocking residue.

My hair feels very silky and soft all over. The different products seem to play well together.

I have been using the Vegamour GRO Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner for about two months. Sometimes the shedding I notice in the drain is much less, and other times it seems to be the same as always.

GRO Hair Foam

GRO Hair Foam has the consistency of hair mousse, and it is both a growth-encouraging and a styling product. And since I don’t use styling products because they make me have to wash my hair more frequently, I don’t use it very often. Here’s what the website says about the GRO Hair Foam:

Formulated with the same powerful phyto-actives found in our best-selling GRO Hair Serum, this rich, revitalizing vegan hair foam provides instant body and texture while deeply penetrating the scalp to support visibly thicker, fuller-looking hair. Designed with the texture of a hair mousse, GRO Hair Foam applies beautifully to towel-dried hair and covers the scalp with optimal ease.

Harnessing our proprietary blend of clinically tested plant-based ingredients this multi-purpose formula volumizes hair while increasing the appearance of hair density for longer-looking strands and reduced signs of shedding.

I probably should give the Hair Foam more of a chance, and see if it will help me see results quicker.

Price $52 for a 3.95 oz. spray can.

Hair Foam Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Hydrofluorocarbon 152a, Isobutane, Propane, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Caffeine, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Callus Conditioned Media, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Peel Oil, Disodium EDTA, Limonene, (Trifolium Pratense (Clover)/Vigna Radiata) Sprout Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Linalool, Potassium Sorbate, Gluconolactone, Sodium Hydroxide, Biotin, Citral, Oligopeptide-2, Nicotiana Benthamiana Hexapeptide-40 sh-Polypeptide-9, Nicotiana Benthamiana Hexapeptide-40 sh-Polypeptide-86.

GRO Hair Serum

For me, the GRO Hair Serum is the heart of the program. The clear liquid serum comes in a dropper bottle. What I like best about it is that I can apply it exactly where I need it most. So I use it primarily where my hair seems to be receding: on the scalp on both left and right sides of my front hairline. I try to apply it twice a day, morning and before bed. It dries quickly, and thankfully, it doesn’t affect my hairstyle in any negative way. It also doesn’t make my hair feel dirty which was my initial concern. I really like the GRO Hair Serum. Although I have only been using it for about 2 months, I think that baby hairs are beginning to grow where I use it.

Here’s the Vegamour description of the product:

Our plant-based, multi-tasking GRO Hair Serum uses a combination of clinically-tested, vegan phyto-actives that work in tandem to help support a healthy and balanced follicular ecosystem while soothing the scalp and revitalizing hair roots. Free of toxic chemicals, carcinogens or harmful side effects, this cruelty-free, vegan hair serum is formulated with powerful phyto-actives shown in multiple clinical studies to increase the appearance of hair density while reducing signs of shedding to bring you thicker, fuller looking hair.

When I finish up this bottle, I intend to buy another bottle. The regular price is $58 for 1 fl. oz., ugh. A subscription to the product reduces the price by $10 and includes free shipping. There are also 20% discount codes via ads on Facebook.

The alternative would be to try Minoxidil, and I have heard that with Minoxidil there is initial shedding before any hair growth is seen. Plus, I would prefer to use the plant-based Vegamour rather than the all synthetic chemicals in Minoxidil.

Serum Ingredients: water/aqua/eau, butylene glycol, alcohol denat. glycerin, caffeine, curcuma longa (turmeric) callus conditioned media, panthenol, disodium edta, limonene, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) peel oil, trifolium pratense (clover) seed extract, vigna radiata seed extract, sodium benzoate, linalool, potassium sorbate, gluconolactone, biotin, citral, calcium gluconate, oligopeptide-2.

GRO Dry Shampoo

I don’t use Dry Shampoo of any kind, so I would be happy to give Vegamour GRO Dry Shampoo to someone who would use it. Here’s the description of the product from the Vegamour website:

…we developed a ground-breaking, plant-based dry shampoo fortified with the same proprietary blend of phyto-active ingredients found in our best-selling GRO Hair Serum.

This scalp balancing, volumizing, dry shampoo formula fuses the texturizing perks of a traditional dry shampoo with powerful, plant-based ingredients that work in tandem to support a healthy hair ecosystem.

Best used together with our GRO or GRO+ Hair Serums for an additional wellness boost on those days when you don’t wash your hair, this talc-free, lightweight formula makes hair look, smell and feel clean by absorbing excess oils, perspiration and odors. Made with USDA organic certified rice hulls, mung bean, red clover and kaolin clay, GRO Dry Shampoo utilizes an eco-friendly propellant for even, effective distribution, is free of synthetic fragrances and is, of course, vegan. Give your hair a healthy, clean ‘lift’ anytime, anywhere!

The regular price of the 3.95 oz. can of GRO Dry Shampoo is $32. If you’re interested in winning the GRO Dry Shampoo, tell me why you want it and/or how you would use it in the comments below. This is an informal giveaway, and I am not going to bother with Rafflecopter. Instead, I will use a random name or number generator to pick a winner next Monday evening, February 7.

Dry Shampoo Ingredients: Isobutane, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Alcohol Denat., Kaolin, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Cetrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Water/Aqua/Eau, (Trifolium Pratense (Clover)/Vigna Radiata) Sprout Extract

GRO Scalp Massager

Vegamour also sent me a handheld GRO Revitalizing Scalp Massager to stimulate the scalp and/or work in the various serums. It can be used on either wet or dry hair. It feels very nice! $18

Additional Info

In addition to buying their products singly (except for the shampoo and conditioner duo), Vegamour has different combinations of products as well as multiples of products that you can buy at a reduced price. That makes sense because if you get good results with the products, you must commit to them pretty much forever because the hair growth will reverse itself if you stop. It’s the same with products like Minoxidil.

Vegamour also has a complete product line with CBD that they call “Advanced” because the microencapsulated CBD molecule is technologically shrunken to be able to penetrate the scalp better and get to the root of the hair follicles for better performance. I haven’t tried any of these. Not surprisingly, they are priced higher.

Current Thoughts

Supposedly, results should be seen after 90 days of use. I have another month to go. Over time (4 months or so), the Vegamour products may:

  • increase hair density by 52%
  • reduce shedding by 76%.

As I mentioned above, sometimes it seems there’s less shedding and other times, it seems about the same as always. I can’t say I notice any increase in hair density, but it does look like some fine hairs are beginning to grow. Maybe? Here’s my hairline now, left side and right side:

I was conflicted about whether to write about my journey now or to wait till after 90 days. I decided to let you know what I’m up to now, and I will give you an update in another month or so.

I know that I would have a better chance of positive results if I used the entire product range alone without other hair products. However, I know I won’t continue to use all Vegamour products forever, so my hybrid strategy is more realistic for me.

The before and after photos as well as testimonials on the Vegamour websites are definitely encouraging. The Vegamour products have been shown to help some people regrow hair or grow longer, healthier hair. I hope I’ll be one of the people who have success with Vegamour. I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, if any of these products interest you, use the code FB20 at checkout.

  1. I would love to try the GRO Dry Shampoo. I have the same hair issues as you with thinning in the front hairline and noticing my hair is a little thicker on one side. I’m always curious to see if any hair products will help to regrow or strengthen my hair. Thank you for the review.

    1. Woohoo, Jackie! Your name was picked by the random name picker wheel. You won the Vegamour Dry ShampooI I need to find your email address so you can email me your mailing address.

  2. I am a dry shampoo aficionado. My hair was always fine but I had a lot more of it. It has thinned out significantly. Throw in an oily scalp and you can see why I love dry shampoo. Thanks for the chance!

  3. I would like to try this dry shampoo because I have never used dry shampoo before and this product has such high quality ingredients that nourish the hair and scalp. My hair has been thinning lately so I’ve been trying out products that address this problem.

  4. I’d love to try the dry shampoo…. my hair has been getting thinner around my face, especially, for the last 5-6 years so I’m very interested in anything that could reverse it or at least slow down the process. And I do like dry shampoo… gets me an extra day of two between shampoos, keeps the color brighter!

  5. My hair has been thinning at my temples for sometime. But over the past 12-18 months, I’m having fallout from everywhere. I spoke to my doctors & hairstylist and they all agree that it’s from my chronic kidney disease worsening. Ugh! I’m trying to be as gentle on my hair a possible – not straightening or curling it, and just ov I low drying. Because of this, I’m actually using dry shampoo now to help maintain my home blowouts. Would love to try a product that’s actually designed for both!

  6. My hair is natural curly, but I do tend to twirl my hair because of my anxiety not sure why I do it but it’s been getting better over time, and I love these products but they are a bit pricey. The Hair Serum looks really nice I wouldn’t mind giving that a try, thanks for sharing these products. I am going to look into more of the products now (:

  7. Well reading the comments here they should make you feel better YOU are not only one losing/thinning your hair. I am 72 and stopped color my hair years ago have a good mix of gray and brown. And I have found that if I don’t give my hair a good brushing before shampooing I have a drain full of hair. I find it easier to pull it out of the hairbrush instead of the drain. :-_) This dry shampoo would let me go a few days longer with out washing it. Some of those products you mentioned really sound good, got to check them out. Thanks!

  8. Minoxidil caused my husband’s scalp to burn so I’d never turn to it. This sounds like a better solution because it’s gentle. Your process for washing/drying sounds pretty time consuming but you’ll definitely be able to work with Vegamour longer because of it. I’m going to have to tell my sister to come read this since she has more problems with losing hair than I do.

  9. That’s really pricey, but if it helps with the thinning… I’m at the point where I’m about to chop my hair off, because the shedding is out of control. Like you, I see a lot of thinning around the front of my hairline. I know a lot of this is because I constantly pull my hair back, and I’m trying to get out of the habit of doing that, but as I do, I am looking for a good product to help. I’d love to try this!

  10. Thank you so much for this review as I’ve been looking at Vegamour. The serum sounds like a winner. I would love to try the dry shampoo because I too have less hair than I used to have and I would dearly love to change that fact. I use dry shampoo fairly regularly and this really sounds like it would be a better option for me.

  11. I use dry shampoo once a week, in between washing my hair weekly. It really helps my thin hair thicken up, and also helps with making it look and feel clean in between washes. I would love to win this!

    1. Vegamour is a terrific haircare brand (sold at Sephora) for those who have thinning hair or who are trying to grow their hair longer. I’m hoping it will help my hair that’s thinning in the front.
