Half Caked Totally Tubular Mascara

Half Caked Beauty’s The Heights Totally Tubular Mascara was one of my favorite makeup finds in 2021. As I mentioned before, I got it in one of my Ipsy Plus bags. I’m happy that even though I’ve gone to every other month Ipsy delivery, I’m still finding brands and products that become part of my regular routine.

Although I tried Half Caked Beauty’s The Ultimate Totally Tubular Mascara during their holiday sale, I was disappointed by it. The curved wand isn’t my favorite, but I can usually deal with a curved wand. The key disappointment was that the formula was not as good for me as the formula from The Heights. Prior to trying The Ultimate, I had expected the formula to be the same as The Heights with just a difference in the wand shape. Yet I found it almost impossible to get The Ultimate to coat my lashes which is strange for a tubing mascara.

My tube of The Heights is at least 6 months old at this point. Not only is it at the stage where, for health reasons, I should toss it, but the formula clumps a bit now, and it doesn’t cover my lashes as well as it used to. Time to say au revoir, though I will wash out the wand and save it as a lash comb.

When I saw that Half Caked Beauty was having a 40% off sale last week, I thought this was my chance to replace The Heights with a new fresh tube. I ended up with a mini Half Caked Beauty haul.

Half Caked Candy Paint Cheek + Lip Tint

While I was perusing the website, I noticed a heart-shaped compact. You know I can’t resist anything heart-shaped.

Candy Paint Cheek + Lip Tint, a cream multitasker that comes in 13 appealing shades (including a couple of bronzer shades and a highlighter with a radiant finish), each regularly priced at $9. I decided on Disco Lemonade, a peachy-pink shade (my usual shade), that is one of their best selling shades.

The plastic compact is cute and it comes with a handy mirror inside. The cream cheek + lip tint is more of a stiff formula (I’d say this is a pass for Marcia who doesn’t like stiff formulas). If I apply it with my finger, I still need to use either a blush brush or a beauty blender to spread it out otherwise I end up with two doll-like spots on my cheeks. Although it is supposed to have a dewy finish, I would say it is semi-matte.

Nevertheless, the stiff and very pigmented formula makes for an incredibly long wearing blush. I’m a fan. This purchase worked out well for me since so many of the cream blushes that I own and prefer disappear after an hour or two on my dry skin. I haven’t used it as a Lip Tint because I prefer to use makeup for one use only.

Cheek + Lip Tint Ingredients: Polybutene, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Ozokerite, Microcrystalline Wax, Silica, Vitamin E, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol.
May Contain +/-: D&C Red 6 Ba (CI 15850:2), Red 7 (CI 15850:1), Red No.27 Al Lake (CI 45410:2), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxide (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Yellow No.5 Al Lake (CI 19140:1).

Half Caked Super Glazed Lip Creme

Much to my surprise, Half Caked included a tube of Super Glazed Lip Creme with my order.

I checked my invoice, and I wasn’t charged for it. I hadn’t noticed that they were including gifts with purchase, but who am I to complain?

When I went to the website to write this post, I noticed that the Super Glazed Lip Cremes are marked down to $4 from $10, so they must be discontinuing it or coming out with new shades. I received Slight Work described as “a universally flattering nude infused with a subtle shimmer”. Slight Work does apply some color to my lips as well as a bit of a shimmer. Plus, the gloss isn’t nearly as dark in person as it appears in the photo of the tube above. Instead, it reads as a peach shade on my lips.

It’s a very comfortable and protective lipgloss. The other 5 shades are out of stock. I just saw a note stating that Slight Work and Semi-Charmed (dusty rose that I think I would have loved) were featured in a recent Ipsy bag. I hope they don’t discontinue this line because it’s a nice formula. It stays put, lasts for quite a long time, and it’s non-sticky. Glad I got to try it out.

Lip Creme Ingredients: Octyldodecanol, Polybutene, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Mica, Vitamine E, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Cinnamal, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol
May contain+/-: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Mica (CI 77019), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Yellow No.5 Al Lake (CI 19140:1), D&C Red 6 Barium Lake (CI 15850:2), D&C Red No.7 Al Lake (CI 15850:1), Barium Sulphate, Rosin (Colophonium).

Half Caked Beauty is an affordable cruelty-free makeup brand that’s worth checking out. Though their products appear to be targeted to younger women, I don’t care. I like their prices and the formulas of the products I’ve tried so far. You can shop for Half Caked Beauty products on their website where free shipping kicks in at $30 or on Amazon where you can get free shipping if you’re a Prime member (though the prices are a dollar or two more on Amazon, though clearly worth it if you don’t qualify for free shipping on the Half Caked website).

  1. Candy Paint Cheek + Lip Tint is so fetching! I love the heart-shaped compact, and the color you chose is really beautiful. I would have to feel the stiff formula to see whether it worked for me, but the fact that it is longer wearing than so many cream blush formulas (many of which disappear soon after they are applied) may make this a worthwhile purchase for me!

  2. Oh that heart palette makes me want to shop. I don’t use my LYS blush often because it’s got that very firm surface but I like the color. They do last longer though. It’s always great to get a freebie you can use!
