Farewell, Makeup Geek

I Bought This, Affiliate Links

Sadly, the indie makeup brand, Makeup Geek, is shutting its doors. The owner said that the pandemic and supply chain issues were the reasons she was calling it quits. But the good news is that it’s selling everything at a substantial discount (40%!!!). Though a number of items and shades are sold out at this point, there are still lots of worthwhile products in stock.

At the beginning of March, I bought 4 shades of MUG foiled eye shadows.

Over the years, I heard people grumbling when Makeup Geek switched from their well-known round pans (see my review of my first shadow purchase from MUG in the round pan days) to square ones, but I find square pans much more efficient to pop into a palette. In fact, I bought one of MUG’s 4 pan square palettes as well.

Foiled Eyeshadows

Here are the four Foiled Shadow opaque metallic shades that I bought that are now sold out:

  • Charmed: silver/gold metallic that reads silver
  • Jester: bronze (gold/green) metallic
  • Illuminaughty: champagne gold metallic that in the direct sun has some glittery colors
  • High Wire: lavender metallic that I thought was another silver shade

I have always had good experiences with Makeup Geek eyeshadows, and these four shades are no exception. They apply easily, have no powdery fallout, and last until I remove them.

The above swatches (the shades are clockwise in the palette, starting in the upper left) were applied over Shades of Shan Hydrating Primer. The first three are my favorites, not surprisingly. The lavender metallic, High Wire, is definitely outside of my usual color palette, but it is a pretty spring shade, so I hope I will wear it with purple outfits.

Here’s a picture of me wearing Charmed. It’s definitely bright silver with blue undertones in spite of the gold look in the pan.

Gunmetal Mini Palette

The Gunmetal 4 pan mirrored palette with a magnetic closure is still in stock for $4.99 along with the Clear Top Palette.

The Gunmetal palette is very well made as well as a handy size.

The 9 pan square Travel Vault Palette for $9.99 is also still in stock.

I recommend snapping up one of these palettes soon for travel or to keep in your purse if you have any one inch square single shadows looking for a home.

Other Makeup and Tools

Although some shades are sold out in all categories, I strongly recommend taking a look at the Makeup Geek website because there are still a lot of desirable products left: blush, highlighters, face powder, beauty tools, LOTS of matte Signature shadows, and more.

    1. It is so sad. MUG has been around for at least a decade, and it seemed to be thriving. It’s definitely worth a look because I find the eye products to be terrific, and at 40% off, they’re a steal.

  1. I bought two eyeshadows, the palette and some brushes. I’m tempted to buy more shadows. Even though they don’t look the same on me as expected they are just so beautiful. Great quality. I took a class from Marlena when she still lived in Michigan and she was charming and a wonderful instructor. I’ve always rooted for her success.
