National Lipstick Day!

my favorite lipsticks in their tubes

I love lipstick, but the past two and a half years have been a lipstick desert, for me anyway. Over the past two months, I haven’t been wearing lipstick very often because up till now, I hadn’t been going anywhere. Although I had been visiting Jeff in the hospital, I had to wear a mask so there was no need for lipstick.

But if I think about my favorite lipsticks, the ones I wear most often when I’m wearing lipstick, my favorites are:

  • Wayne Goss, The Luxury Cream Lipstick, shade Lily (reviewed here)
  • Doll 10 Beauty, T.C.E. Supremely Bold Lipstick, shade No Boundaries (reviewed here)
  • Lauren Conrad, The Lipstick, shade Shell (reviewed here)

All three shades are variations on a theme: mauvish colors. Back when I lived in NYC, I wore red lipstick or if not red, then coral. Here in suburbia, mauve seems more appropriate.

Of the three, the Wayne Goss Luxury Cream Lipstick is the most emollient. His cream lipsticks go on like a breeze and feel so comfortable. The pinky-mauve Lily is my favorite, though he calls it “muted rose pink”. I have another Goss lipstick, Carnation, that is more of a berry shade that he calls “deep balanced mauve”. I wish that Goss would introduce more variability into the shades in the cream line because I think they are all variations on neutral. Also, the photos on his website make the colors look very different from their actual shade. But other than those complaints, I love Goss The Luxury Cream Lipstick formula! It’s so lightweight!

The shade No Boundaries from Doll 10 Beauty’s Supremely Bold Lip Color collection is a clean beauty lipstick formulated from lots of organic ingredients. It is a medium pink that is very skin friendly and easy for my sensitive lips to wear. When I’m in the mood for something more pink than a true mauve, I reach for this one. It came in a T.C.E. set of products, but you can buy it separately on the Doll 10 Beauty website. There are 3 other shades in that collection. Doll 10 Beauty has fairly frequent sales, if you sign up for emails.

I bought the Lauren Conrad lipstick that really is a Shell shade (more peach than true pink) from Ipsy last year. It is a slightly more matte finish than the other two faves that are true creams. I would call this a semi-matte finish. It’s much more comfortable for me to wear than a real matte lipstick. I reach for this one when I want a neutral that’s more peachy than pink. Although the Lauren Conrad website still exists, I don’t think you can shop on it. Lauren Conrad lipstick is out of stock on Amazon, and it only seems to be available through Mercari and Poshmark. Boo. Looks like Lauren Conrad gave up on selling beauty products, for now at least.

Those are my everyday faves. What are yours?

City Beauty City Lips

To be honest, what I wear most often is clear City Lips.

I am addicted to it. It is so comfortable, and makes my lips feel so good. I probably should order a neutral color for daytime, but I just love the clear. I put it on in the morning, and it lasts pretty much all day unless I drink a lot. I put it on again before bed and it last all night.

I go through a tube in about 4-6 weeks. So that’s why I am always excited when City Beauty has a buy one, get one sale on City Lips. I stockpile them. I am just about to finish a tube and start a new one, so that leaves me with three tubes of clear in my stash. Hmmm, is that enough for now?

Anyway, you’re a true City Lips fan like I am, now’s a good time to stock up. The sale is a quickie: from today, July 29, through Monday,  August 1. The sale is BOGO on both gloss and matte formulas. 🙂

As usual, the way it works is put 2 tubes in your cart (or any multiple of 2) and one of them will be free. Don’t forget to use the code PLUMP. I am always grateful when you click through my links. xoxo

Happy National Lipstick Day!

  1. Hi, Allison – I usually wear my lip glosses to improve the color of lipsticks I bought that aren’t quite right on me. You’re really tempting me with these City Lips plumping glosses. Then I think to myself, “am I using all my lip glosses to their fullest extent?” And then, I would love the City Lips gloss in watermelon. But two might be too much…since I haven’t tried it yet, I don’t know…Hmmm? What to do? Thanks for giving me this dilemma. Lol! – Angie, yourtrueselfblog.com
