Traveler’s Friend: LightWater Skin Nutrition

PR Samples, Affiliate Links

Though I mentioned LightWater Skin Nutrition in a “Coming Attractions” post in September, I love these two travel-friendly moisturizers much that they deserve a post of their own.

LightWater Skin Nutrition Background

Where was LightWater Skin Nutrition when I was traveling on business almost every week? They didn’t exist. LightWater Skin Nutrition’s concept was developed recently by LightWater CEO + Founder, Soo-Young Kang PhD (bioscientist, former cancer researcher), when she was looking at the products in her stash. She thought about how long she had had some of the products – years! And she decided to do something about it.

Dr. Young joined forces with R. Rox Anderson MD and Fernanda H. Sakamoto MD PhD, colleagues from Harvard Medical Center to create fresh skincare products. Here’s the LightWater Skin Nutrition mission statement:

Skin care as fresh and nutritious as whole food

Good-bye double-dip jars, hello fresh daily doses. Our 100% fresh active ingredients deliver optimum efficacy, and our clean, microbiome-friendly formulations are ideal for all skin. The end result? Skin is balanced, nourished, and healthy.

Everything about LightWater Skin Nutrition’s products are wonderful:

  • made with fresh active ingredients
  • “clean beauty”/natural, pure
  • preservative-free
  • microbiome-friendly
  • vegan
  • cruelty-free
  • packaging that’s recycled, recyclable, reused, or compostable
  • individually-“dosed”, TSA and travel-friendly!
  • made in the U.S.A.

The Products

LightWater Skin Nutrition launched two moisturizers:

Both products come in resealable heavy paper pouches filled with individually-dosed moisturizers. The yellow pouch contains the daytime Multivitamin Moisturizer, and the blue pouch contains the nighttime Replenishing Cream.

When I received these products, I got a lot of other products delivered at the same time. I’m not going to lie, I sort of forgot about them. When I opened the Multivitamin Moisturizer (the name of the product is in a white font against a yellow background, so I didn’t really read it or see it), the individual little packets looked like the kind of packaging I would expect from a powdered supplement that I would mix with water. I completely misunderstood! Thankfully, the PR people picked up my mistake and set me straight. I’m so glad they did!

Each pouch contains 28 packets, a month’s supply. On the pouch is the use-by date. I wish I hadn’t misunderstood the product (it would have helped if I read the packaging!), because I didn’t start using the moisturizers right away. The Best Before Date on my packages is October 31. So rather than saving these lovely moisturizers only for travel, I have been using them everyday.

What I also love about LightWater Skin Nutrition is the fact that I can throw the empty packets and pouches right on my compost pile!

Multivitamin Moisturizer

First, I open the little packet by tearing it at the perforation. Then I squeeze the moisturizer out of the packet. Multivitamin Moisturizer is a light peach shade, and it goes on like a dream. It is quickly absorbed.

Although LightWater moisturizers have no added fragrance, some of the ingredients have their own natural aroma. To me, it is essentially fragrance-free.

Multivitamin Moisturizer contains:

  • vitamins: B3 (Niacinamide), B5 (DL-Panthenol), B7 (Biotin), C, and E
  • antioxidants: Green Tea Extract, Rice Germ Extract, Pine Bark Extract & more
  • moisturizers: Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, Ceramide, Cocoa Seed Butter, Sunflower Seed Wax
  • probiotics: Lactobacillus ferment

What Multivitamin Moisturizer doesn’t contain is sunscreen, so I apply a separate sunscreen.

Replenishing Cream

Replenishing Cream is a rich, white cream. Because it is a restorative product for nighttime use, it is a little heavier than the morning product, and the consistency is just perfect. Nevertheless, it isn’t heavy or sticky.

The nighttime cream contains:

  • replenishing ingredients: Ferulic acid (but I don’t smell the usually objectionable, for me, scent!), Goji Berry Extract, Omega-3 Fatty Acids
  • super hydrators and barrier strengtheners: Glycerin, Ceramide, Squalane, Phytosphingosine, Olive Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Sweet Cherry Oil, Jojoba Esters, Cocoa Seed Butter, Sunflower Seed Wax
  • probiotics: Lactobacillus ferment

Pricing and Other Info

Both packets contain one dose. I find that there’s plenty in each packet to cover my entire face, neck and décolletage.

The 28 packet pouches are priced at $45 for Multivitamin Moisturizer and $47.50 for Replenishing Cream. If you subscribe, you can save about $5 on each. You can also save by buying both products at the same time, the Fresh Daily Duo. The LightWater Skin Nutrition products are sold on their website.

Though LightWater Skin Nutrition is not cheap, it is a delight to use and it makes my skin feel fabulous. I took it with me on my trips to Montreal and North Carolina, and they were so easy to pack, taking up almost no room in the luggage. And they’re so much easier to bring instead of trying to figure out how much of my usual moisturizers I need to transfer into a little jar. When I fill my own, I often end up not bringing enough. Ugh. Instead, LightWater Skin Nutrition is a cinch.

Importantly, if you abide by the Best By Date, you know that the active ingredients in this skincare are actually active!

  1. If you travel then these are great and would be a good buy but it’s not great for home use with such a short expiration date. That’s too bad. It might be though that PR sent an older package and that consumers would get ones that would last longer. These sound like a pleasure for your fall travels though.

    1. Actually, if using haircare with fresh active ingredients is important to you and you decide to use LightWater as your regular skincare products, the expiration date wouldn’t be a problem because each pouch comes with a month’s supply. I believe I was sent my two pouches in early September with the 10/31 expiration date. Because I thought the little packets were filled with powdered supplements, I didn’t start using it until almost the end of September! If you travel a lot but not constantly and don’t use LightWater as your everyday/night skincare, then the expiration date can definitely be a problem. I’m not sure how long you have to use up a pouch before the expiration date is reached, though I looked for that on the website.

    1. LightWater Skin Nutrition little packets are definitely space-saving for travel! At home, I love that I can add the empty packets and pouch to my compost pile.
