Color The World Lipsticks for the Mature Woman

During the summer, I saw a few ads for a lipstick that was targeted to mature women, women 40+. It really got my attention because I am always looking for a lipstick that isn’t drying for my perennially dry lips.

Color The World sells makeup for lips, eyes, face, and they sell skincare, too. The company was started by two brothers from Raleigh NC, Stephen and Wayne, and Stephen’s wife Stephanie. Their brand focuses on natural, cruelty-free, vegan products. The lipsticks are their core product, and they’re billed as “Made Fresh for Every Order”. I wondered what that meant exactly. It means that each lipstick is a freshly made, hand-poured, artisan made lipstick. Neat!

The packaging of the products is respectful of the earth, made with recycled materials.

Their mission along with making sales and trying not to add to the junk piling up on earth is to raise awareness for and support different causes around the world. Each lipstick shade supports a different cause. Cool.

On the website, I discovered that they currently have two lipstick collections:

  • the first collection comes in their colorful cardboard printed tubes and supports a different cause
  • the second collection is a “collaboration” that they named Boomer Gals with each lipstick named a traditional Baby Boomer girls name

Original Collection

Presently, the Original Collection consists of 55 different shades of lipstick. The colorful, fun prints on each of the 55 cardboard tubes is slightly different. Each lipstick is made with organic oils and natural waxes. They have no added fragrance, no natural fragrance and no flavor.

As I’ve mentioned previously, each shade supports a different cause, e.g. Help triumph over anxiety and depression, “Make A Wish” Foundation, Help those recover from brain injury & stroke, Help support our Veterans, Protect the Kittens, 1% for the Planet, etc.

The Original Collection lipsticks are sold individually or in bundles of 3, 5, 11, or 15 shades where you save a bit with the bulk purchase. On the website, the price of the solo tubes was originally $21, but the sale price of $12.60 has been going on since I bought mine in late August.

I decided I wanted to try a lipstick from the Original Collection. It was a difficult choice because I was choosing from 55 different shades. I went with Flawless. Flawless looked on the website like a medium pink shade, and it was described as a “cool pink”.

The cause it supports is “Restoring vision across the globe”. Here’s how they describe their support:

“Flawless” shade, highlights the efforts of ‘Orbis’ to help restore vision across the globe, visit them @ orbis.org . An international non-profit bringing people together to fight avoidable blindness. With our network of partners we mentor, train and inspire local teams to fight blindness in their own communities. At Color the World, we donate 10% of our distributed profits, split between a number of charitable causes, including Orbis.

It sounds to me like Color The World donates 10% of their profits across a number of charitable organizations, and Orbis is one of them?

When I received Flawless, I was eager to try it. The shade was indeed pink, a light cool toned pink (that in person looks lighter on my lips than in the photo below), that was perfect for summer.

It feels good on my lips, not at all drying, yet it’s not a colored lip balm. It’s a lipstick that is indeed non-drying. The lipstick is creamy, and it applies with one or two swipes. The color lasts for several hours without eating or drinking, and the color fades over time but some color remains on the lips. I usually use Micellar water to remove it. I like this lipstick, though I could use a darker shade now that it’s almost winter. I may try another, deeper shade soon.

Boomer Gals

I was curious about the origin of Boomer Gals, but I couldn’t find anything on the website that discusses the theme. Each shade is labeled with a traditional girls name popular with the Baby Boom generation, e.g. Donna, Linda, Sharon, Cynthia, Mary, Karen, Brenda, Lori, Amy, Susan, Carol, Patricia etc. No Allison, lol.

The packaging for Boomer Gals is a gold-tone tube made from a metallic material. I’m assuming that it may be made from recycled materials, but I couldn’t find anything specific about it.

Boomer Gals lipsticks are advertised as “Ultra Lux Hydrating Lipstick”. I surmised that maybe because it’s targeted to Boomers who are older with drier lips, that this collection will be very, very hydrating.

The regular price of the Boomer Gals lipstick is $24, but like the Original lipsticks, it’s been on sale since at least August for $14.50.

I decided I wanted to try a lipstick from the Boomer Gals collection to compare and contrast it with the Originals. Finally, I settled on Melissa’s Soft Coral Crimson Red. On my screen, the shade looked like coral.

When I received it, I tried it on. On me, most days the shade looks like a light peach (though in the photo, it does look coral, sheesh!), I still think it looks like more of a summer shade than an autumn color. It’s still pretty, I just wanted a deeper color.

I was curious about the Ultra Lux Hydrating Lipstick positioning: does it hold up? After wearing it for several hours, I find it to be slightly drying on my very dry lips. The Boomer Gal lipstick requires a few swipes for full coverage. Initially, it feels comfortable on my lips. It’s only after several hours, my lips feel a little dry. Frankly, I prefer the Original Lipstick formula, but I am wondering if it is something in the slightly redder color itself? When I look at the ingredient lists for both shades, they are exactly the same!

Final Thoughts

I’m glad I tried Color The World lipsticks. For the modest sale price, the two lipsticks I tried were definitely worth the price. I find myself reaching for Flawless from the Original collection fairly often. I may eventually order a deeper shade for the winter. Take a look at the Color The World website, and see what you think!

  1. I have looked at their ads over and over but it’s so hard to buy lipstick online. First I worry about fragrance. You didn’t mention it so maybe it doesn’t have any. Second I like light lipstick so I worry that I’ll make a mistake with color. But the original sounds really nice.

    1. Oops, I forgot to add that there’s no added fragrance and no natural fragrance from the ingredients. And there’s no flavor. I will change it now! Thank you, Marcia! There have a few pale shades that I think will suit you.

  2. I’m waiting for a “mature” line that takes into account that some of us are wacky and want blue, green, grey, black, yellow, and metallic lipsticks. I can’t be the only over 40 weirdo out here!

    1. #1. I can’t believe you over 40! #2. You are right. There should be more fun colors! #3. There may be no metallics because the ingredients that give them that shine can be tough on dry lips. (I adore my copper metallic creme liquid from Sephora Collection, but I always pay for the next several days after I wear it trying to get my lips to no longer flake off!)

      1. Thank you! I’m actually over 50. I guess I can see your point about metallics, but still, some funky colours could be done.
