Rodan + Fields Redefine Regimen and Acute Care

skincare

I have been wanting to try Rodan + Fields Skincare for the longest time. Just in case you’re not familiar with it, Rodan + Fields line of skincare products was developed by Stanford-trained dermatologists, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. I am grateful to the blogging group, iFabbo, for making it happen now! I received the Rodan + Fields Redefine Regimen and Acute Care products to try out in exchange for an honest review.

Redefine regimen and Acute Care skincare

Rodan + Fields Redefine Regimen was created to address the appearance of lines, pores and loss of firmness. There are three other regimens for other skin issues:

  • Reverse for brown spots, dullness and discoloration
  • Unblemish for acne
  • Sooth for sensitive, irritated or red skin.

Redefine was a good choice for me, but check out all four on the Rodan + Fields website.

The Redefine regimen consists of 4 products that come in one terrific kit, and they make up the 3 step routine:

  1. Daily Cleansing Mask (4.2 fl. oz./125 ml)
  2. Pore Minimizing Toner (4.2 fl. oz./125 ml)
  3. Daytime and Nighttime Moisturizers (each 1.0 fl. oz./30 ml):
  • AM: Triple Defense Treatment Broad Spectrum SPF 30
  • PM: Overnight Restorative Cream

The Daily Mask, a thick white clay (kaolin) cleanser with tiny exfoliating particles, provides daily non-drying cleansing and gentle exfoliation. Even with my sensitive dry skin, I love using it. The cleanser is massaged on and then left to dry for two minutes as a quick mask. I love this product. In fact, its gentle exfoliation works so well that when I tested another brand’s chemical exfoliator to remove dead skin cells that were supposed to come off in little clumps, there was nothing to remove! I’m all set 😉

Ingredients: Water, Kaolin, Butylene Glycol, Isododecane, Titanium Dioxide, Lauryl Methacrylate/Glycol Dimethacrylate Crosspolymer, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Bentonite, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Disodium EDTA, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Xanthan Gum, Oleth-10 Phosphate, Sorbitan Stearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium Lactate, Potassium Hydroxide, Fragrance

I typically don’t use a toner, except occasionally I use rosewater for its calming qualities. But I have been following the regimen, and I have been using the Pore Minimizing Toner on a regular basis. It is very gentle, and my skin is fine with it. I don’t have enlarged pores so I can’t see a difference. Another benefit to using a toner is that it makes serums and moisturizers more effective, so I am happy to add it to my routine.

Ingredients: Water, Lactobionic Acid, Gluconolactone, Butylene Glycol, Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Seed Extract, Dimethyl MEA, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polysorbate 20, Octoxynol-12, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Chlorphenesin, Carrageenan, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ammonium Hydroxide, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Fragrance

Then I follow up with either the daytime or nighttime moisturizer. I love that the daytime moisturizer has SPF 30. I love the feel of both of these moisturizers. They are the perfect weight for my dry skin, and neither is greasy. They sink right in, and my skin feels very smooth. I really love both of these products!

AM Treatment: ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Avobenze 3% Homosalate 2.5% Octisalate 5% Octocrylene 2.7% INACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Water, Isododecane, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sucrose Stearate, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Extract, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Polyurethane-40, Hydrolyzed Silk, Fragrance, Silica, Camellia Oleifera Leaf Extract, Polyacrylate-13, Polyisobutene, Polysorbate 20, Iron Oxides, Tetrapeptide-21, Resveratrol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Dunaliella Salina Extract, Talc, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Humic Acids, Sodium Hyaluronate

My skin has been feeling great since I started the Rodan + Fields Redefine Regimen. It is appropriate for all skintypes. Check it out. I definitely think you will like it a lot! And there are a few more products including eye cream, hand cream and expanded kits available as part of the Redefine product lineup.

The Redefine kit is priced at $193 for all 4 products. It can be purchased on the Rodan + Fields website or through their direct sales representatives.

Redefine Acute Care

Acute Care, Skincare for Expression Lines, is also part of the Redefine skincare line. The box I received can be used to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eye, i.e. crow’s feet. According to Rodan + Fields, “Acute Care quickly and comfortably smooths targeted lines and wrinkles using Liquid Cone Technology to melt line defying peptides directly into the wrinkles for a younger-looking appearance.”

Rodan-Fields-Acute-Care2

The box that I received contained 10 separate packets, each containing 2 clear plastic strips impregnated with hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid and sh-Oligopeptide-1 that I believe is Epidermal Growth Factor or EGF, a peptide that accelerates cell proliferation and differentiation. My only complaint about the product is that it is over-packaged. It is clearly necessary to protect the efficacy of the product so that it won’t become ineffective or dry out, but it comes in a plastic case that does not show the recyclable logo, and the plastic casing is placed in a plastic-y envelope to further protect it. I wish that the plastic case was recyclable. Plus it would be great if some form of paper could be used to seal it rather than more plastic. Packaging rant over!

Rodan and Fields Redefine Acute Care Skincare for Expression Lines

Acute Care is used at night, every third night for a month, in conjunction with the Redefine Regimen. After cleansing and drying the skin around the eyes, a pad is applied to the eye area essentially where crow’s feet are or could be. The pad is easy to apply, and it sticks on quite well. It delivers active ingredients right where they are needed.

Over the past year or so, my crow’s feet have really deepened. Boo! After using all 10 Acute Care treatment pads, there is some improvement. Especially after I remove the pads in the morning, my eye area looks better hydrated and the lines do not appear as deep. Impressive! I’d love to keep going with these.

    1. Thanks, Brianna, for your comment. I think that it’s possible to purchase Rodan + Fields through their website in addition to via their direct sales. I love the skincare. You should check that out too!

    1. The skincare products are really great, Dima. Rodan and Fields are the dermatologists behind Proactiv for oily skin and acne control. Their products really are top notch!

  1. I can see a difference, that’s what matters. I use to be a skincare noob and say I will never spend a lot of money on skincare hehe. However, if it works it’s worth every penny hehe.. I have my review coming up this week also 🙂

    1. Oh, I’m eager to see what you have to say, Heather. I was shocked that the pads did result in a difference in my crows-feet! I think somewhat younger women would do even better.

    1. I was shocked, Sybille, that I got any difference at all. I think somewhat younger women would be even more impressed with their results. The skincare products on their own are incredible. I’ve never tried this brand before, and I love the 4 products in the Redefine kit. Definitely keepers!

  2. Wow, I wasn’t expecting to see such results from those eye pads in the before and after pics! Awesome! That cleansing mask sounds interesting, like the best of both worlds. Even though masks aren’t that much “work” per se, I find myself hardly doing them, so this sounds great!

    1. I wasn’t either, Sammi. I did get decent results from the Acute Care pads, and I think younger women would see even more effectiveness. The skincare products are fabulous, and I definitely recommend them. The 2-in-1 cleanser really does a great job keeping my skin exfoliated!

    1. The skincare products themselves were fantastic, Kristina. I really love them. So it may be worth it to look into the unblemished kit. The Acute Care Expression Line Pads are expensive. I wouldn’t have spent that kind of money, but that’s just me. I did have some results, but younger women who have tried it were amazed at their differences.

    1. The pads are pricey, but I was surprised that it did make some difference for me. For a somewhat younger woman, I would expect even better results.

    1. I was surprised that the eye patches did actually work somewhat on me. The crow’s feet are still there, but not as deep. The cleanser/mask is incredible. I use it once a day with my dry skin, and it definitely keeps my face nicely exfoliated. The moisturizers are fabulous

    1. I love the R+F skincare products, Julie. The Daily Cleansing Mask is amazing, though a little too strong for my sensitive, dry skin to use everyday but it’s one of the best cleanser/exfoliators I’ve ever used, and I love the moisturizers. Well worth trying!

  3. I’m so happy that I was able to test these out too or I’d never have believed what a difference the Acute Care could make. I’ve always been a fan of R&F Redefine and used it for a long time. I’ve looked into buying the Acute Care patches separately and will be told when they are available. Even though it’s expensive I think the difference is worth it. Your eyes look great.

    1. The Acute Care Patches are available now as a stand alone item. Contact your consultant to get yours and save 10% with free shipping. I am happy to help anyone who does not have a consultant.

      1. That’s good to hear, Tami! I couldn’t find any info on the Acute Care Patches other than with the skincare kit. Plus 10% off, that’s great. Thank you!

        1. They just became available as a stand-alone product at the beginning of this month. Prior to that, they were available only as a bundle with an R+F Regimen. The clinical testing showed that you do get longer lasting results when the Acute Care Patches are used in conjunction with the Redefine Regimen, so that is why they were initially launched that way!

    2. Thanks, Marcia! One of the R+F consultants left a comment that the patches are available separately now through the consultants with a 10% discount, but she didn’t say what the price was. I was shocked that the patches actually worked! And I love the skincare products.

        1. If I had money to spare, I might do it, but realistically I couldn’t afford it. I wonder whether there’s a way to do it in a DIY manner with HA & collagen gel and a bandaid since that’s what’s in the patches. If I can find some collagen gel, I might give it a try!

    1. I didn’t expect the eye patches to do anything, but they did work somewhat to make my crow’s-feet less deep. And the skincare products are really fabulous. They’re keepers!

    1. I like it too, but it is actually a little too drying for regular use on my skin. In fact, it exfoliated so well that when I tried the Skin Inc Pure Revival Mask, nothing came off! Now I use the Daily Cleanser from R+F a couple of times a week.

    1. I was shocked, Natalye. I didn’t expect them to do anything, but they did soften my lines. And the skincare products themselves are fabulous!

  4. Yes, I can definitely see results with the Expression pads – they sound amazing despite the excess packaging! I wonder how the Unblemish for Acne regimen would work on my super-spotty face.

    1. I’ve heard very good things about Unblemish for Acne, Renu. Rodan+Fields were the two dermatologists who started Proactiv. Have you tried that line? I don’t know whether they still own it, but I would imagine Unblemish built on what they learned for Proactiv.

  5. Wow Allison, you can surely see the difference it has made. I don’t use a toner normally either, I find it just dries my face out too much… so if I have to use one – I like Rose Water. This line definitely intrigues me.

    1. Yes, I think the patches did make a difference! Too bad I can’t afford to buy more, lol. But I do like the skincare. The toner is amazingly gentle. It feels the same as using my usual rosewater. I love the Daily Cleansing Mask, but because it has kaolin, it is too much for me to use twice a day. Now I use it 2-3 times a week and it does a great job.

  6. Nice Blog, I have also checked the review on the other website and they mentioned that, It’s like a face mask but isn’t really. It works like a nose pore strip but doesn’t really aim to remove whiteheads or blackheads. The Rodan + Fields Redefine Acute Care – it’s one product that does redefine anti-aging and how signs of aging like wrinkles can be reversed.http://bit.ly/2e0hYUn

    1. Thanks, Jazz. Hmmm, I’m not sure which R+F product you’re referring to – that works like a nose strip. It was almost two years ago that I tested some of the Acute Care products. I remember the cleanser, serum and moisturizer. Perhaps there was a mask in the kit, but it wasn’t a peel off mask if my memory serves me.

  7. Hi Allison, I gave a quick question! My patches are dry, they have no fluid or any witness to them, is that how they usually come? I just ordered them from the direct site & put them on tonight. It seems like they should be at least moist. Any feedback would be great!

    1. Kristi, I feel bad about this but I don’t remember the specifics of this particular moisturizer/anti-aging cream. It has been more than two years since I used the Rodan + Fields Redefine Regimen. So sorry. At any rate, how moisturizers feel on my face was something I was thinking about the other night when I was using a different moisturizer/anti-aging cream. Some of them sink in completely, and some dry down to a sort of smooth finish. Others have a dewy finish or an almost greasy finish. Why don’t you try it for another night or two, and if it doesn’t feel right on your skin, call R+F. If you don’t have a sales rep, call the customer service number: Email: orderinquiries@rodanandfields.com
      Phone: 415.273.8000
Phone hours: M-F 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. PST. I remember that I liked the regimen, I believe that I was using a cleanser and a serum as well so it may have felt different plus my skin could be different from yours, though mine is definitely very dry. I hope you get satisfaction if/when you call the company. I believe they are good are taking care of their customers. LMK, Kristi, how you make out
