Another Little CVS Makeup Haul

drugstore makeup, NYX Jumbo Shadow Crayon, Rimmel Eyeshadow Sticks, Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick

I like CVS because the stores are so darn convenient. There’s one on almost every corner, lol.  But their makeup prices are definitely higher than Walmart and even Target. To make up for it, they have ExtraBucks and Beauty Club rewards. I just shared my CVS Maybelline haul from a little over a week ago. Since then, I got another $13 in Extrabucks that had a pretty quick expiration date. So I stopped in yesterday, and they had another coupon for $2 off a lipstick, blush, foundation, or nail polish of any brand plus several brands (Rimmel, Milani and maybe a couple of others?) had a Buy One, Get 50% off Another sale going on.

Needless to say, I picked up a few items.

Here are the swatches from my little haul:

I haven’t tried the NYX silver eye pencil yet, so I can’t comment on it. But I love the shade.

I used both Rimmel Stick Crayons today, and they go on like butter and they are so easy to blend. And you know me, I love mattes. These babies exceeded my expectations. So far, I’ve been wearing them over Urban Decay Anti-aging Primer Potion for more than 7 hours today with no creasing whatsoever. Love ’em!

The Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick is a good one too. I was looking for an orange lipstick, and Laura, subscriber and now friend from OH, suggested Electric Orange from the Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids line. CVS had one in stock, but when I saw the color of the label, I chickened out, and went with Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in the pretty peachy Tulip. Revlon Ultra HD goes on easily with quite a bit of slip, it is not full-opaque, and it initially feels hydrating and after a few hours is neither hydrating nor drying. It lasts for 4 hours or so if you don’t eat a meal. It’s very lightweight and it seems like a nice summer lipstick. I’m happy with it.

Altogether I ended up putting out $3 and change after all the Extrabucks and coupons kicked in. Not bad at all!

And here’s my quickie face of the day with the Rimmel Shadow Sticks and Revlon lippie. Along with my Estee Lauder Daywear BB Cream, Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick in Sunkissed, Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero, and L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Intenza Mascara, great for a casual Saturday.

  1. I do not think you could take a bad picture of yourself even if you tried. I am the exact opposite. I do not photograph well at all. You definitely picked out some great colors for yourself. And for the total price paid you almost got them for free in my book. lol I have to admit that Electric Orange does look pretty shocking in the tube to me too. I am hoping it will look like the online model I saw it on instead. 😉 I think you did very well choosing the Tulip. It looks so pretty on you. I am surprised by how much I like the NYX silver swatch but I am always left dumbfounded on how to wear silver eye shadows and liners. All in all it seems I need to get to a drugstore ASAP!!!!! Thank you for another great review of drugstore finds. I love that you do them.

    1. Thank you so much, Laura, but you should see the pix that I don’t publish 😉 You will definitely have to let me know about Electric Orange. Do you have dark hair? I was thinking that Electric Orange with my red hair might be too much, especially at this age lol! I plan to wear the silver with either navy blue, grey or black shadow to tone it down. The two browns shadow sticks from Rimmel are so easy to use and long-lasting. They wore without creasing or fading for about 12 hours, yay!

  2. Remember I tried one of the new Ion shades last month in Sable? I expected a rich brown shade but got brownish red instead. Considering blonde this month because my roots show too much against darker hair. I would need that professionally done. Too chicken to reverse color on my own.
I get what you are saying about the orange lipstick against red hair. I did not even think about that. lol I still think that some oranges (not the fruit…ha ha) would look good on you. The orange lipsticks I most covet are too much $$$ like Armani in 300 Pop or Sisley in Sheer Papaya. For the affordable MAC Morange looks promising. Again I have not been able to see them in person.

    1. I’ll look out for the MAC Morange, Laura. The Armani and Sisley are out of my price range too 😉 Last summer, I bought a matte orange from NYX that I like. It’s orange but not neon orange. It was the “electric” aspect of the Maybelline Vivid that scared me! About your hair, I love brownish red, but it isn’t great to get an unexpected shade when you color your hair. Blonde sounds like fun, but I agree that it would be best to have it professionally done so you’d have to strip out some of the color to go lighter. But then there’s the expense of having it done. Whichever way you decide to go, I’m sure it’ll look great 🙂

      1. I went ahead and ordered that lippie through Amazon. Will be here Wed. I am about to become Electric!!! ha ha
        Have a wonderful day Allison!

  3. Wow! This shade of lipstick looks perfect on you. It’s pretty and bright but, at the same time, not BRIGHT! I love the Rimmel eye crayons. They’ve never let me down. The NYX crayons are always good too. Yes, CVS is more expensive than other stores for the same products but, between the Beauty Club benefits, the ExtraBucks and the sales, I can always find things at far less than full price. 🙂

  4. I love Tulip! As soon as I saw what Emma Stone wore to the Oscars, I was hunting that Tulip shade down, ha! It’s such a gorgeous color on you!! I’ve never tried the Rimmell ScandalEyes, but I think I’d like them. I will have to check those out when I go to CVS, which seems weekly because like you said, there is one on every corner and only about two minutes from my house. HA!

    1. Was Tulip by Revlon the shade that Emma Stone wore, Christine? I loved her lippie too but I didn’t check out the brand/shade. And I definitely recommend those Rimmel sticks!!!

    1. I think Tulip would look great on you, Kristina, but then every lippie I’ve ever seen on you looks fabulous! Yes, CVS has to do something to help me make a purchase with their higher prices!

    1. I think I did quite well at CVS on Friday, too, Kim! I’m loving that lipstick and the two Rimmel crayons. Gotta try the NYX stick soon 🙂

    1. OMG, Julie, send those Extrabucks to me, lol! I do forget from time to time, but I mostly do use them. And my local CVS takes expired ones and that really helps. BTW, I tried the Rose Riot Color Tattoo over a base and primer, and it didn’t make any different. I just exchanged Rose Riot for Black Orchid. My Milani Bella Rose is about the same shade but with much greater impact. Thanks again for your suggestion. It helped me determine that Rose Riot was not worth keeping 🙂

    1. And Charlotte Tilbury, though more luxurious, costs at least 4 times more! And perhaps because I don’t have oily eyelids, the Rimmel pencils lasted at least 12 hours on me.

    1. Will do, Kristin! I added a bit of it to an eye look I was trying to save today, but I’ll give it a real try soon. It is so pretty. Not as much slip as the Rimmel so far, but still seems good.

    1. I thought CVS had taken over the US at this point! Sorry you don’t have one nearby, Cindy, coz they sure are handy. On the other hand, I wish I had Fred Meyer and more/better Rite Aids, lol. I hope you do find Tulip. It’s such a pretty shade. I think it would suit you too!

    1. I keep getting sucked in to CVS whenever they have 30% off and give me a bunch of Extrabucks. I keep finding stuff I love in the drugstore, fortunately.

    1. I think that’s their plan, Shelley, to carry NYX in most of the CVS stores. The small CVS doesn’t carry it, but the bigger ones all do.

  5. I love a good score! YAY for you. I tend to stay away from orange due to my red hair and age but you look fabulous,I’ll have to rethink my aversion.Next on my must try list are the Rimmel stick crayons, they look great!!!

    1. Thank you, Laura, and thank you for discovering and commenting on my older content xoxo I do like orange. I would say, however, that it does have some red in it to make it more wearable. I agree with you that straight orange lipstick can be pretty unwearable, but I think a real orange-red on a redhead can look terrific! Let me know if you try it some day!
