FOTD: Everyday Spring Makeup Look

spring everyday makeup face-of-the-day

Because of my darn cold that I had recently, I hadn’t put on any makeup all week, and I looked generally awful. 😥 But I finally felt a little better, and it’s sunny (though still chilly) outside. In spite of needing to wash my hair, I decided to put on some makeup to cheer myself up.

There are still no leaves on the trees, and the early azaleas that would normally be in bloom are not. But there are crocus and daffodils up in some of the yards (not mine where it’s still Arctic temperatures!), so I am thinking Spring. And I am obsessed with pink. So I decided to do an everyday pink makeup face of the day (dirty hair, no eyebrows and all). Pink and grey eye makeup from Almay Softies, pink blush and pink lips. Think pink!

With all that pink, I should be wearing Shocking, the ground-breaking scent by Elsa Schiaparelli introduced in 1937 to accompany her shocking pink fashions. But I’m wearing more muted pink. I was in the kind of spring mood that had me reaching for a contemporary feminine, somewhat sweet, soft spring perfume: Alien by Thierry Mugler.

The scent is described as:

“…Alien, radiant and mysterious, the elixir of absolute femininity. Be seduced by the soothing solar energy of this extraordinary fragrance from elsewhere. Luminous like a brilliant solar flower, the fragrance exudes a positive energy, charged with mystery. Evoking the scent of wood warmed by intense sunlight, Alien is sensual and intriguing, yet as soft and rich as the caress of cashmere.”

Notes: Solar Accord, Jasmine Sambac, Green Notes, Cashmeran, Vanilla, Transparent Amber.
Style: Mysterious. Soothing. Magnetic.

Wow, that’s my idea of Spring!

In fact, I like this scent so much, I signed up for Scentbird (reviewed here) (the Netflix of fragrance subscriptions) so that I could get a nice big purse-size spray of Alien. If you are thinking about a new scent and don’t want to have to buy an entire bottle if you’re not yet sure you’re in love with it, consider a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription by clicking here (you can cancel at any time).

Face of the Day

This is a quick look that took about 5-10 minutes, the kind of makeup that I’d wear to do errands or go out during the day.

  1. Alien is my favorite by Thierry Mugler. I like all the flankers of this scent also. While I enjoy Angel it is not unusual like I feel Alien is to me. Plus it just smells better on me.
We have been in the 80s here the past 2 days. Where did Spring go?
Allison, I wish I could look as good as you after a cold!

    1. When Angel first came out, I think I was first in line to check it out, but unfortunately, it didn’t work with my body chemistry. I was amazed when I recently discovered Alien at Sephora that it worked! The MUA at Sephora gave me a tiny vial to try at home. I’m psyched to get the larger purse spray from Scentbird in a week or two. For $14, it’ll be just enough for me to see if it makes the cut! As far as the weather goes, we had one day that reached 80 (Sunday), and it’s been in the low 70s since. My Bradford pear trees and daffodils are finally opening today! So I guess your spring finally is getting here to coastal MA!! And thank you, Laura! My hair hadn’t been washed in days and it’s as flat as a board, but I just had to play with pink that day, and it did make me feel better 🙂

    1. Thank you, Rebecca! I was still under the weather and hadn’t washed my hair in days, but I needed to play around with pink to help me feel better 🙂

  2. I am glad you’re starting to feel better!

It’s finally started to look like spring here in Michigan but a week ago there were still no leaves on the trees either! I hope spring comes to Boston soon.

I love your pink look, it’s definitely spring-like. I am more partial to soft purples in the spring and corals on the lips and cheeks. I have been also obsessed with purple cheeks recently!

    1. Purple cheeks, wow! I’ve gotta come and take a look. 🙂 I love purple too but I haven’t really gotten to purple blush. I also love coral lips, usually for the summer.

  3. Of all the mascaras I have bought and tried I missed this one. I will have to keep an eye out for it. I love your photos they are so pretty!

    1. Thank you, Heather xoxo I still love L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Intenza Mascara, but I had such good results with the new CoverGirl The Super Sizer that it’s my new fave, period, the end!

  4. I wish my hair looked that good when I haven’t washed it! I don’t think any of us would have been able to tell you’d been sick if you hadn’t told us. I still don’t see it. You look lovely. <3
I would love to send some of our 80F your way, believe me! I was doing a little weeding yesterday evening and noticed that some of the plants were actually wilting from the heat. Ugh, it's too early to have to turn the A/C on! Lol

    1. You are too sweet, Rach! I don’t think I had washed my hair in 5 days and it was flat as a pancake coz I haven’t gotten into dry shampoo. Fortunately, the temperature warmed up on Sunday to almost 80, and it’s been in the 70s mostly this week. I’ve been gardening like crazy. But I just turned the heat off a few days ago so I definitely am not ready to have to pay for the A/C. Hope you get a respite soon!

    1. Renu, I just returned the Visionnaire to Sephora today & exchanged it for Smashbox Photofinish. It just felt too heavy and it kind of balled up with my foundation sort of.

  5. Pretty look, Allison. You look refreshed and radiant. I haven’t yet tried Alien. I need to go take a sniff of it one of these days.

    1. I think you might like Alien, Kim, because it’s an oriental but it’s on the sweet side. I’m liking it. Not as much as Musc Ravageur, but I ordered it from Scentbird.

  6. Glad you’re finally feeling better! I was in the same boat – sick for two weeks, and didn’t put on any makeup. When I finally felt well enough to put myself together, I put on a sunshiny scent and purple makeup!

    1. That’s great, Nidia, and so glad you’re better! I was going to do purple, but I finally bought a pink eye shadow and I was dying to use it so I went pink.

    1. I’m kind of new to pink, Marcia. I like the Almay Softies Smoke shade that’s a grey-brown shade so I picked up one in pink, and I really like it for an everyday light look. Thanks so much. I looked so awful and my hair was so flat and dirty, but the makeup and fragrance really perked me up. Thankfully, all better now 🙂

    1. Thank you, Brigitte. I hope you’ll be all better soon so you can enjoy your great weather. I’ve just fallen for pink shadow and I actually love the Almay Softie. The lipstick is probably my favorite, Milani Power Lip in Macaron. So pretty and comfortable to wear 🙂

    1. I wasn’t sure about pink shadow either, Kristina. In fact, I have red eyelids. But I’ve been obsessed with pink lately, and I bought the pink Almay Softie and I really like how it looks paired with Smoke, a grey-brown shade. Glad you like Alien too! I joined Scentbird so that I could get a purse spray for $14.

  7. I had the same reaction to Alien too quite a few years ago. Just didn’t like it! Will have to give it another sniff next time I’m in Sephora. Thanks for the tip!

    1. I like oriental scents, Cybele. In fact, they are the only scents that work with my body chemistry. So Alien may just not be right for you

    1. Thank you, Julie. My flat hair is the tip off. But I’m much better now. I still need a little extra coverage on a couple of my dark spots from sun damage, but I love how lightweight the NARS is!

  8. Pink is definitely your shade! I love the Milani lippie shade on you. I haven’t tried Alien, and now that I read the notes, I’m not sure why. It sounds like it would be something I’d like. thanks for the review!

    1. Thank you so much, Amber! The Milani Power Lip is my favorite lippie especially in Macaron 🙂 I’m waiting to get my Alien purse spray from Scentbird! Psyched!

    1. I am just getting into pinks for makeup, Bailey. With my red eyelids, I was afraid to use it but it actually looks really nice and light and spring-y!
