Friday Find: Dermal Royal Jelly Collagen Essence Mask

Do you have an H-Mart near you? There are at least 40 of them now throughout the U.S., and there are several in Canada, too.

H-Mart is an American supermarket chain operated by the Hanahreum Group that specializes in Asian foods and household products. Han Ah Reum means “one arm full of groceries” in Korean. Anyway, it’s a super-cool big store that is almost like a supermarket and mini-mall in one. It has jewelry concessions, makeup concessions, a food court, a toy store selling lots of Hello Kitty, and a gigantic grocery store with great prices. I love it. And I love all the fun beauty products I’ve discovered while doing my food shopping.

On one of my visits, I picked up an inexpensive sheet mask: Dermal Royal Jelly Collagen Essence Mask for 99 cents. I’m a big fan of collagen, though I don’t know if there was enough collagen in it and whether leaving it on for 20 minutes would be enough to make a difference.

I put it in my stash bag and rediscovered it the other night. It is my first sheet mask. It fit me OK. I look positively terrifying in it.

I cleansed my face first, and I left the mask on for a little more than 20 minutes. It had no discernible scent. It felt cold on my skin. I’ll have to get another one to try on a hot summer night, if we ever have any hot summer nights 😉

I removed the mask, and the instructions said that you don’t have to wash it off so I let it dry on my skin. The mask made my formerly irritated, dry skin feel hydrated and soft. I skipped my usual serum and just applied night moisturizer.

As I mentioned before, this was my first experience with a sheet mask. Truth be told, I don’t love the sheet. I still prefer a regular mask. But maybe I’ll change my mind. I’ve got a box of Hada Labo Tokyo sheet masks to try next. However, the Dermal Royal Jelly Collagen Essence Mask was a deal for 99 cents because it had an immediate effect, it definitely hydrated and softened my skin.

Have you gotten any great Asian skincare finds at H-Mart or another Asian retailer? Do you like sheet masks?

    1. This was my first sheet mask, Anne. I have a box of them from Hada Labo Tokyo that’s been sitting on my vanity for months and I still haven’t used ’em yet. So much easier to just apply a regular mask. However, the results from this one were really good!

  1. I LOVE H-Mart! We have two here.. one is smaller and a “home” store while the other one is a big grocery market with a bakery, food court area, and beauty shop/concession! I always scope out their masks, because it’s so inexpensive. I do agree with you that I’m not a huge fan of sheet masks either. They tend to slip down my face or the ends don’t stay on, but for the price to just try isn’t bad! 🙂

    1. OMG, I’m jealous that you have so many H-Mart options. I adore that store! I was surprised that the sheet mask stayed on my face, probably because the gel was so thick and sticky. But the results were great. I’ll buy another one if they have it next H-Mart trip!

    1. I don’t know why a sheet mask seems like more trouble because it’s really not. I was afraid it would fall off but it didn’t. And the results were great. I’d finally open that box of Hada Labo Tokyo sheet masks soon!

    1. Do you live in northern NJ, Judy? There are a ton of Asian stores there. And I think the original H-Mart may have started in Jersey

  2. Sheet masks are so weird. My sister and I like to send each other pictures of us wearing them to scare each other. I find them so awkward! Looked up H-Mart, and there is one not too far from in an area I’m sometimes, so I’ll have to check it out next time I’m around!

    1. Tess, if you like Asian food, or even just great meat and fish, H-Mart is the place to go. Plus they have a lot of adorable Korean makeup and skincare depending on the store. I love to go there and browse! So cute about you and your sister sending each other mask pix. I can just imagine it

  3. The sheet masks make me feel claustrophobic heheh I use them because some of them are great but I don’t like it hehe. I haven’t seen this brand yet.THanks for sharing!

    1. That’s so cute, Heather. I was afraid it would fall off, but it actually sticked and I could breathe fine, but I know what you mean about claustrophobic. I still prefer a normal mask, but the results of this one were worth it!

    1. I agree! You’d scare your daughters to death with a sheet mask. But it did work well so I shouldn’t complain and the price was right 🙂

    1. I keep putting it off, too, Carleen. I have a box full of Hada Labo Tokyo sheet masks sitting on my vanity for almost a year now! I don’t know what it is that I still prefer a regular mask. But this was ended up feeling really nice especially afterwards!

  4. Yesss I love sheet masks. There’s something vaguely creepy about them but at the same time I quite like them for my skin.

    1. I’ve got a box of Hada Labo Tokyo sheet masks waiting for me, so I’ve gotta get into them. I think it was the cold feeling on my face that bothered me, so hopefully it’ll heat up outdoors and I won’t mind the coolness. You’re right, the sheet mask did wonders for my skin 🙂

    1. I think that’s the problem for me, Nidia. It’s still friggin’ freezing up here in New England. I had to turn the heat on the other day because it was 51 degrees inside my house! If it ever heats up outside, I think I’d enjoy the cool feeling of the sheet mask. Right now, it just feels uncomfortable. But it did a great job hydrating my skin 🙂

    1. You’re right, Helen. I think if it wasn’t still so cold here, I’d be fine with it. So when and if it ever heats up in MA, I’ll try another one 🙂

  5. Sheet masks always make me look like Jason from those Halloween movies. But I think they are a great treat. I use them maybe a few times a month at most but my skin always reacts well.
I want that H Mart near me. I’d love to wander around putting fun things in my cart.

    1. I agree. I was a dead ringer for Jason, I think. I have to get used to the chilly feeling of the sheet mask. You’d love this H-Mart if you like Asian foods. It has a French bakery and several food stalls as well. A really fun place

  6. Not bad for $.99! I love a cool mask on a hot summer day! Wait… I love masks in general but especially ones that make your face go “ahhhh”.

  7. I don’t think sheet masks fit anyone very well! I really like sheet masks, but I think my favourite has been My Beauty Diary Apple Polyphenol ones as they really seem to make a difference.
