No-Makeup Makeup FOTD Featuring Urban Decay Eyes

neutral makeup

The No-Makeup Makeup Look was one of the key looks on the fashion runways for 2015. Gee, I’ve been doing that look since I was in college. Guess I was ahead of my time. And I’ve done No-Makeup makeup looks before, but this time, I used the neutral palette that I think everyone thinks about when you think “no makeup”: Urban Decay Naked Basics. Am I right?

To be honest, today I had an actual no makeup look going because I went to the ophthalmologist to get my eyes examined and have them dilated. I never wear eye makeup or any makeup when I go to an eye exam. So I put on makeup for this post after I got back. Seems like my day is backwards!

Pretty much my go-to look for errands etc. Lightweight foundation or a BB/CC cream, light matte shadow to cover up my naturally red eyelids, brown mascara, natural-looking blush, and a nude-ish lipstick. Here’s what I used.

Gee, that looks like a lot of steps just for a no-makeup look, lol! I’m participating in this No-Makeup Makeup theme with the gals of The Beauty Collaborative.

  1. Those pupils still look dilated. I hate that feeling.
Neutrals always seem best for a done up no makeup look. I also like to use dewy no sparkle highlighters instead of eyeshadow too. This really speeds things up for me if I am in a rush.

    1. I haven’t looked in the mirror yet, Laura, but hopefully the pupils are back to normal now! I didn’t even think of that for the photo, lol! Although I need to put some opaque color on my red eyelids, maybe I’ll try using that useful Aura 24K cream highlighter thing on my lids for shine. Thank you for the idea!!

      1. Last year Brian and I had our exams the same day. The doctor drenched our eyes in that stuff. It took more than half the day to wear off. When we walked out in our funky shades we were both useless. We wasted some time in a Bagel shop eating and talking. Never again at the same time.
That highlighter you bought would be perfect for a naked eye but better look I bet. *fingers crossed*
My Walgreens have yet to display the new Modern Matte shades. I am going to check again this weekend though. I like the shade your two lippies created.

        1. Definitely a mistake not to have a designated driver, lol. So grateful my friend came with me. Which shades of the Modern Mattes are you looking for? I haven’t been to the Walgreen’s in my area, but they might have ’em. Let me know 🙂

    1. Me too, they’re the only matte lipstick that I can wear. The lipstick I’m wearing is a combo of the two Matte Innocent and Too Faced La Creme Cinnamon Kiss

    1. That’s what they gave me, Helen! I looked like an alien, but I was glad to have them. Fortunately, my friend drove me home because it was still so bright outside and it was a very long drive. Hopefully, I’m normal today!

        1. I was so grateful that no one saw me. I looked like an 80 yr old alien, for sure, with those dorky sunnies. And yes, it was very difficult to apply my eye makeup with dilated pupils. I completely screwed up tight lining my upper lashline because I just couldn’t see what I was doing. And then I just fluffed on some neutral shadow. I didn’t want to miss the link up, lol!

    1. Thanks, Leigh! Naked Basics is a go-to everyday palette. I don’t know why it sat in my stash for so long before I rediscovered it 😉

    1. Thank you so much, Norah! I just threw this on after getting home from the eye doctor so I could participate. Hopefully, it passed muster, lol

    1. Many thanks especially since I looked like an alien yesterday with my pupils dilated and wearing those weird temporary sunglass things. I like the lipstick shade combo too 🙂

    1. Thank you, Kimberly. That’s my favorite blush, an LE cream blush from Stila. Unfortunately, I’ve hit pan and soon it’ll be gone 🙁

    1. Renu, that is exactly what I did. It’s been almost 10 yrs since the last time my eyes were dilated, and now they seem to have discovered a problem, boo. Regarding the lipstick, that’s exactly what I did. I love Cinnamon Kiss but I wanted it to appear a little more brown/neutral so I added Matte Innocent on top.

  2. That’s a beautiful, fresh look. The Nars foundation and UD Palette have been on my wish list for a while now.

    1. Thank you, Valerie 🙂 I have to do a review of the NARS Weightless Foundation. I generally like it a lot, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get a good color match. The entire line runs a bit yellow. The UD Naked Basics really is a must-have, very handy palette. Next time, Ulta has their 20% off sale, it is definitely worth picking up

      1. Thanks for the info on Nars, yellow is not great on me either. I like pink/neutral/fair. I think I’d better swatch this at Sephora. So many companies love their yellow/warm tones! I’ll check for sales on the UD palette too. Great tip! Thanks 🙂

        1. You’re welcome, Valerie. I am pink/fair to light, and the closest I could get was Light 2 Montblanc that was supposed to be the closest to pink they had. There may be one more shade that’s even light. Definitely you must swatch it and ask them at Sephora to make you a sample to take home and try for a few days. I bought it in spite of not getting a good match because I really wanted to try the formula. It is quite amazing: very lightweight and just about full coverage from just a few drops.

    1. Nidia, I put the Too Faced La Creme in Cinnamon Kiss on, and I thought it had too much color and didn’t look “natural” enough so I just applied the Jordana Matte Innocent on top to tone it down. On its own, Matte Innocent is too brown for me so I like to mix it with pinks, peaches, corals, anything really

    1. Haha, I never wear eye makeup including mascara to my eye exam so I feel invisible, lol. The lipstick is a combo of Too Faced La Creme Cinnamon Stick with some Jordana Modern Matte Innocent on top 🙂

    1. Yes, I did, Kristina. I go to Vidal Sassoon every 4 weeks, and it’s super rich and bright right afterwards. But red hair fades quickly especially now that I’m spending so much time outside. I need a lightweight spray with UV protection to try to make the color last, but in all honesty, nothing helps, red just fades.

    1. The Stila LE palette is from Holiday 2013, Sammi. Frankly, I like it a lot and for a long time it was my go-to travel palette, mostly pink/purple shades. I am really going to miss the Poinsettia cream blush when I finish it up

    1. It does cover surprisingly well though I have some sun damage that needs concealer even with the NARS. But I love how lightweight it is 🙂

  3. I do the no-makeup makeup most days as well. Today I must have REALLY been going for it apparently, as I didn’t even notice until two hours after I’d left the house that I’d neglected to apply my blusher. Whoops. hahahahaha

    1. No makeup makeup is definitely still the easiest, classic look especially for every day, though maybe it’s being rivaled now by the winged eyeliner trend. I’m sure no one even noticed, Rach! I often forget my blush, but without it my makeup/face looks kind of flat. If I’m not wearing foundation, I don’t need blush coz my cheeks have always been pink. I think I had rosacea as a kid, but no one knew anything about it then.
