I haven’t bought anything from Too Faced in a looooong time.

Over Memorial Weekend, they had a sale on their website (25% off and free shipping!) so I used that opportunity to pick up one of their relatively new highlighters, Love Light, in Ray of Light, a rose gold shade.

Did I mention that the compact is heart-shaped??? So cute!

I had tested it out several times at Ulta during their spring coupon event. I love the shade because it isn’t too dark (I bought a rose gold highlighter from BECCA a couple of years ago, and it was so deep and coppery, I can’t really wear it on my light skin). Also the finely missed pressed powder feels like butter. It is so darn smooth! I passed on buying it during the Ulta event, but I couldn’t pass it up during Too Faced’s recent sale.

Now that I own it, it still is soft, finely milled and buttery. And it’s still restrained which, for me, is a good thing. It gives a nice rose gold glow with a little shimmer in the light. I apply it with a duo fiber stippling brush or with a fan brush in order to assure that it’s restrained.

Too Faced included a number of samples with my purchase. They sent a packet of Shadow Insurance, and 4 light shades from the Born This Way Liquid Foundation line.

Unfortunately, they didn’t include Swan, their newest pale shade. But I was happy to receive these foundation samples. I had been eager to try Born This Way, but in the store using the testers, I was unable to find a good shade match. Playing with the samples at home was the way to go. Here are swatches of the shades: Snow, Porcelain, Ivory, and Pearl.

After swatching them, I thought I’d try Pearl. Once I got it on my face, I realized it was a no go: definitely too yellow. I took it off with micellar water, reapplied moisturizer and Hourglass Veil Primer, and decided to try Snow. Snow may be a tad too light, but I do like this shade. It was a good enough match to go ahead and finish putting on the rest of my makeup. Porcelain is definitely too orange and too dark for me. Ivory will be the next shade I’ll try because it looks like it would be a good summer shade for when my skin is a little tanned.

But truth be told, I’m very glad I received these samples and got to try a full face. Born This Way is probably not for me. I wouldn’t buy a bottle. Although it provides good medium to full coverage, it settles into my lines and wrinkles when I smile, and it makes me look old. No thanks. But I think it’s a very nice foundation for other people, especially younger people! It has a wonderful velvety finish, and it’s very lightweight. If I were several years or maybe decades younger, I’d like it a lot.

So here’s the rose gold look I put together.

    1. Thank you, Shireen! You are younger than I am, so BTW could be a good foundation, but like me, I think I remember you are a fan of MUFE and others so you can easily pass on this one.

    1. Thank you, Helen xoxo Yes, I had to have this for my heart-shaped tchotchke collection 😉 but I really like to shimmer I get with this especially when I wear a peach colored blush.

  1. You look radiant in your picture, Allison! I love this highlighter on you. That’s a shame BTW didn’t work for you but lucky you didn’t have to buy a bottle to find out! I have two shades, one is too light and one is too dark. I like to mix them lol it’s not my favorite though and I don’t plan to repurchase!

    1. Thank you, Judy! I wanted people to see how the foundation looks on older skin – not perfect IMO. But it can’t be that bad because I’m wearing it again today, lol, in spite of the fact that Snow really is a little too light and a little to yellow. I’m sorry you have to mix your shades. Having to buy two shades and mix them (I do that with IT CC Cream) really bugs me!

    1. Oh, interesting! With a duo fiber or a light fan brush, I get a nice light wash. But there are so many great highlighters out there that you don’t have to go with one that isn’t perfect for you

  2. I was so tempted with the TF because of the heart but I know I wouldn’t use it enough to justify it. Sadly the Porcelain foundation isn’t the right shade for me and I never returned it. I can mix in white with it but then it feels too heavy. I wish Porcelain had been porcelain.

    1. Porcelain isn’t even close to a real porcelain shade. What were they thinking? It’s the darkest of the four shades they sent me! I think the new Swan and then Snow are the lightest shades. But even Snow pulls too yellow for me. Nevertheless, I’m wearing it again today – using up the sample!

  3. We’re the opposite here I love the BTW foundation but when I swatched the highlighters I wasn’t too impressed. At least what you paid for worked out though 😊

    1. I’m glad that BTW works for you, Kara. I just can’t get a really good color match, and it settles into my lines. But it can’t be that bad coz I’m wearing it again today. Too bad the highlighters didn’t work for you. I love the buttery feel of the rose gold one, and the fact that I can control it so I don’t look like a disco ball. But there are so many great highlighters out there, I’m sure you’ve found others that suit you better

    1. I think you would most likely find Snow a decent match especially where you said you have olive undertones. For me, it was a tad light and a tad yellow. For young skin like yours, I think it would be lovely. It’s lightweight and natural looking plus it gives decent coverage.

  4. What a fabulous glowing summer look Allison! And that Too Faced Highlighter is almost too pretty to use! Gorgeous, really. The Born this way is one of my favorite foundations. It sits so well on the skin!

    1. Thank you, Sissi! I wish BTW sat better on my skin, but then I am older than you are. I love that this is a lightweight foundation with good coverage. I’m glad that it suits you well!
