I hadn’t tried Avon makeup in ages so I was pleased when I was given a chance to try Avon mascara.

I was sent Avon True Color Super Extend Nourishing Mascara, and I had chosen the shade, Navy. It also comes in black and brown-black.

It has a sturdy, wide-ish wand with plastic teeth on the sides and on the rounded tip. Because I’m a fan of plastic teeth on mascara wands, this is my jam. What’s different for me is that the wand is a little wider than usual (it reminds me of the CoverGirl The Super Sizer Mascara wand reviewed here), and I think that’s fine. In fact, I like that width. I love the rounded tip with teeth on it! I like to use the tip of mascara wands vertically to get at the little hairs in the inner corners of my eyes as well as the outer lashes of my downturned eyes. In sum, I love this wand!

The first time I used the mascara, for some reason, I didn’t love the formula. I’m not sure why, but my lashes didn’t look as good as I thought they should. So I let the tube sit for a few weeks, and then I came back to it. I had a complete change of heart. It seemed like this formula needed to be opened and let a little air in to change it a bit. The formula now volumizes my lashes, and it lengthens too. But I’d say it’s more a volumizing than lengthening formula.

Two coats is works well for me. The formula doesn’t clump or smudge, and it doesn’t flake. It stays put. My lashes don’t feel stiff or look spidery.

Here are the benefits according to Avon:

• Lashes look longer, and feel healthier and conditioned
• Nourishing formula protects and fortifies lashes
• Won’t clump, smudge, or flake off
• Removes easily for less lash breakage
• Enriched with Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, and Vitamin E
• Hypoallergenic
• Ophthalmologist tested
• Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
• Flexi-Brush

The color: Navy. It’s a true navy blue: it’s a dark blue. If you’re looking for a standout blue, this isn’t it. If you like a hint of blue, this is fine.

When I was younger, I loved colored mascara, and I gravitated toward bright blue mascara. Now brightly colored mascaras are too much for me, so I am pleased with this shade. Perfect. More mature color. A softer look than black mascara.

I like to wear Navy with gray or blue-ish shadows, and a navy or even medium blue eyeliner. When I don’t have time for eyeliner or shadow along my lower lash line, Avon True Color Super Extend Nourishing Mascara gives me a nice soft deep blue smudged line under my lower lashes while it colors them.

I wore Avon’s Navy today with Mystic, a blue-grey shimmer from the Tarte Make Believe In Yourself palette (reviewed here), and a medium matte grey shade from the Beauty Junkees singles palette (reviewed here). I didn’t have time to find my blue eyeliners so I skipped it. But I like this blue-grey look with my blue-grey eyes.

Avon True Color Super Extend Nourishing Mascara is priced at $8. Sold on the Avon website or through Avon sales associates.

Have you tried Avon mascaras? Do you ever wear colored mascara?

    1. Shireen, I’m sorry there’s no “edit” function on my comment program. Did you mean “Avon” instead of “Don”? I’ll fix it if so. I have had the Avon True Color mascara for about three months but I haven’t been using it all the time during that time. I hope it won’t dry it too soon since I’ve just started using it more often!

    1. As I mentioned, DiorShow has navy also, but for a mascara that you probably wouldn’t use that often, I’d rather pay $8 than $28.50!

  1. I couldn’t wear a bright blue so I like the shade of this and think it looks great with grays. I often find that my mascara needs a little age before I grow to like it.

    1. I remember you saying that you liked to “age” your mascaras sometimes, and that’s why I went back to it to try again. So glad I had your advice! This dark navy is very subtle, but it does look great with grey, silver or blue shadows/liners. I’m glad I found it!

    1. This is a subtle navy blue. It is dark. I like how it deposits some blue under my lower lashes. I think it looks best with grey, silver or blue shadow. It was a good surprise!

  2. Oh I’m intrigued to try. My first ever makeup was from Avon coz my used to sell their products back in the day.

    1. Oh, that’s so nice. I haven’t really tried much makeup from Avon, ever, so I’m so glad I got a chance to try this subtle navy mascara. I love the color and the wand!

    1. The wand is great! I like navy because I have blue eyes. I can’t remember your eye color. But regardless, it’s a good mascara and it comes in black too 🙂

  3. I find Avon mascaras to be hit or miss on me, but I did love the colour of this and that it was blue enough to show up on my dark lashes.

    1. This is the only Avon mascara I’ve tried, and though I didn’t love it the first time using it, waiting a few weeks and trying again has made all the difference. The shade of navy and the wand are just great
