I’ve been searching for a BB cream that suits my dry, sun damaged skin, and I think my long search may be over. I ordered a product called Hydroxatone http://bit.ly/14Ms2mZ from iFabbo, a website for beauty bloggers, in exchange for the “currency” I receive by reviewing products.
I’ve been really busy traveling on business lately, and to be honest, I wasn’t familiar with the brand, and I didn’t really notice what the product was that I ordered. When I got home from my trip, a box was waiting for me. I opened it, and to my surprise, it was BB cream! I think I thought I was going to receive serum. Since I was still on my BB cream quest, I was delighted.
The product I received was Hydroxatone Anti-aging BB Cream http://bit.ly/14Ms2mZ.
The tube lists lots of benefits:

After reading all the potential benefits, I was eager to try it. I put it on the next morning, and come to mama, I think I have found my BB. I should mention that I applied my moisturizer first as I always do, regardless of whether I’m using BB cream or a traditional foundation. My skin is so dry that I am uncomfortable without it. If you are younger than I or have normal to oily skin, most likely you will not need to do that.
Hydroxatone Anti-aging BB Cream provided medium to almost full coverage for me. It covered most of my sun damage, and I dabbed a bit more on my largest spots and it covered them, too. That shocked me as I always have to apply concealer. I applied the BB with my fingers, but you could definitely use a foundation brush. I found it easy to apply, blendable and buildable. My skin felt smoother, satiny, and with a sort of “protected” feeling. My fine lines were less visible. I typically wear a lightweight foundation (Almay Smart Shade Anti-aging), and this is heavier coverage than that, for sure. I kept wanting to touch my face because it felt so good. I checked the ingredients and it contains a number of different versions of dimethicone, so no wonder it feels so smooth.
Overall, the product provided just about all of the benefits that I was able to judge. I can’t say whether it brightened or not.
Hydroxatone Anti-aging BB Cream has an SPF 40, higher than the vast majority of BBs on the market. The broad spectrum coverage is delivered by a physical barrier sunscreen (titanium dioxide) rather than chemicals, and that’s important to me.
But here’s the hitch. The shade that iFabbo sent is Medium, and to my utter sadness, it’s a little too dark for me. It has a slight yellow undertone that works to tone down my skin’s redness.
I am usually a Light, and I must be Light in this brand as well. See, it’s not my shade, so I’m not showing you a face shot. 🙁
I am going to hold onto this for a few weeks to see if it’ll be a match once my face gets a bit of a tan (though I wear sunscreen every day, I spent a lot of time outdoors and I always get darker). And if it doesn’t work out, I will definitely give this to a friend.
Hydroxatone Anti-aging BB Cream is sold on the company website in 5 shades — Light, Medium, Tan, Deep Tan, and Dark (that looks like it would be dark enough for dark skin shades) for $59.95 for a 1.5 fl. oz/45 mL tube. That’s expensive! It is now sold at Ulta http://bit.ly/14Ms2mZ for $39.00 as well as at drugstore.com, Amazon, the DermStore, HSN, and a number of other online sites. It’s made in the U.S.

Some of the products also contains an ingredient called, argirelene, that they say relaxes facial muscles (a kind of botox-like effect? no that freezes muscles). Sounds intriguing.
Surprisingly, I also discovered online a somewhat odd “marketing campaign” in which a company website or PR release focusses on the necessity of buying it directly from the manufacturer, otherwise they cannot attest to the authenticity of the product. Not sure whether that’s just hype or whether there have been attempts to counterfeit their formula!
