RoC Retinol Correxion Max Daily Hydration Creme

Much of my career was spent in advertising and market research. So certain ad campaigns jump out and get my attention.

The recent campaign from skincare brand, RoC, did just that. The ad focused on the compliment that many of us “of a certain age” get from time to time: “You look great…for your age.” In fact, I’ve been guilty of saying it myself about my three aunts, all of whom looked fantastic and so youthful into their 80s. But it’s the “for your age” part of the compliment that now makes my blood boil when I think about it or hear it said about myself. Why not “You look great”, period? Many of us want to look great at any time of life, look the best we can at whatever age we are.

I was a little surprised when RoC Retinol Correxion Max Daily Hydration Creme arrived on my doorstep. I had just been thinking about RoC and its terrific ad campaign.

Also, “Retinol” in the product name caught my eye. I recently received a publicity email from a noted board-certified cosmetic laser surgeon, Warren B. Seiler III M.D., that listed things we can all do for better skin. Using skincare products with retinol, a vitamin A derivative with about a million skincare benefits, was right at the top. Though we may not be able to afford laser surgery, most of us can afford to use skincare products with retinol. Here’s what he had to say about the ingredient: “Retinol is one of the primary pillars of an effective anti-aging regimen, and is a must-have for most all skin types, excluding very sensitive skin. Retinol is responsible for cellular turnover and keeping the cells organized, similar to how properly stretching before a workout ensures your muscles are in good working order and promotes recovery afterward. Retinols prevent the formation of free radicals and increase collagen production, resulting in a more youthful look. Remember, consistency is key – once you start, keep using it and your skin will reap the benefits.”

I added retinol to my routine a couple of years ago mainly through various serums. I’m always rotating the serums I use in order to try new things, so I haven’t been consistent in my retinol use. I didn’t realize till reading Dr. Seiler’s recommendations on retinol usage that I was doing it wrong. How convenient to receive RoC Retinol Correxion Max Daily Hydration Creme that is formulated with the maximum level of retinol!

RoC Retinol Correxion Max Daily Hydration Creme (from here on, I’ll call it RoC Retinol Correxion ‘coz the name is so darn long!) is an intensive anti-aging, anti-wrinkle treatment. In addition to combating lines and wrinkles, it is a terrific moisturizer. Glycerin, found in all types of natural lipids (fats) and considered one of the best ingredients by Paula’s Choice Ingredient Dictionary, is listed third in the RoC Retinol Correxion ingredient list. Sodium hyaluronate, further on down the list, plays a supporting role too. They plump skin with moisture for 24 hours to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

I use RoC Retinol Correxion at night primarily because it is sunscreen-free although if my skin is feeling dry or it’s a cold, dry day, I’ll wear a sunscreen on top of it. It is a rich, soothing cream, and a little goes a long way. It feels so good, so nourishing and so protective on my face especially during winter when it’s cold and windy outside and drying indoors due to the heat. Even with its rich formula, I don’t find it greasy at all. It leaves my skin feeling slightly dewy – a sensation that I strongly prefer – rather than drying completely matte.

For those who are sensitive to scents, I must mention that RoC Retinol Correxion has a fresh fragrance in the jar and during application that may be considered a bit strong by some. Although purchased several years ago by Johnson & Johnson, RoC was a French skincare brand started in 1957 by pharmacist Jean-Charles Lissarrague. Most French as well as many other European skincare brands use fragrance in their products. Not sure why, but they do. The scent of this anti-aging moisturizer disappears once it’s on my face.

It had been a while since I had used a skincare product from RoC. In fact, the last one was an eye cream with retinol. I tend to think of this brand as my go-to when it comes to retinol. If you’ve been thinking about adding retinol to your skincare routine, consider Roc Retinol Correxion Max Daily Hydration Creme. It’s the perfect antidote to dry skin this winter! Plus it does help me look my best at this age 😉

RoC Retinol Correxion comes in a jar (I use a clean scoop for cleanliness) and contains 1.7 oz./48 g. It’s priced from $22.99+ (prices vary according to where you buy it), and it’s widely available at drugstores and mass merchandisers in the US and on Amazon. I remain a fan of skincare products from big companies because they usually have deep pockets for research and development. As I mentioned above, I think of RoC for retinol, and with good reason! RoC scientists were the first to develop the methods needed to stabilize and package retinol in its pure and effective form. Cool.

  1. I am a huge advocate of using Retinol-based products. I have tried a few from RoC, and was impressed by them. This sounds like a really good one, and I love that it leaves a slightly dewy finish, instead of one that is more matte.

    1. For dry skin, a dewy finish looks and feels so much better than matte!

  2. Roc is sold where I work but a very small range which is a huge shame because it’s such an underrated brand. This sounds lovely but I wish it comes in an airless pump instead of a jar.

    1. That is too bad that they only carry a few RoC products. You’re right it is a stealth brand, but I meant it when I said RoC is my go-to when I’m looking for retinol. Your point about why not a pump is a good one. Most of the big corporate brands all sell their moisturizers in jars instead of pumps. I have no idea why.

  3. I’ve heard that RoC is great. I try to avoid retinol with my sensitive skin.

  4. I haven’t heard it yet but that is such a back-handed compliment! My skin definitely appreciated more moisture in winter even though it is oily in summer. I’ll have to pass on the retinol but I won’t be pregnant forever!!!

    1. Some day in the future, retinol really is a good ingredient to add to your routine. RoC has an entire line of retinol products – I was amazed!

  5. People always told my mom she looked good for her age. And she did. Luckily she took it as a compliment since she really didn’t get wrinkled until she was about 92. I don’t use this consistently because of the fragrance but I do use it on occasion.

    1. No wrinkles till 92, wow! I hope you inherited her genes, Marcia! That is truly amazing. I forgot that you reviewed this product too. The scent is definitely present with this product, but I am happy that once it’s on my face, I don’t smell it anymore.

  6. Kathryne says:

I always get that comment but it doesn’t affect me but what I find insulting is when I hear or read something along the line “she’s only in her 20s or 30s but dress like she’s in her 40s”. It’s the labeling people use to associate one age group even if it’s not a true representation.

    1. Yes, it is aggravating. No one thinks they will ever age so they don’t think about what they say, and then they do.

  7. I admire you for the patience of trying all of these different products!

  8. 25 Sweetpeas says:

Sounds like it’s pretty nice, always nice to have something especially around the winter!

  9. This sounds like a great product! Thank you for the scent disclaimer – that is always appreciated!

    1. My blogging friend, Marcia, is very sensitive to fragrances, so I try to remember to include it for her and for others as well.

  10. My sister (a beautiful redhead with very fair skin) swears by RoC. Her skin always looks great.

    1. That’s great to hear, Sandy! Were you a redhead too? Way before I ever thought of beauty blogging, I was always a fan of French skincare especially the French pharmacy brands like Lierac, Embryolisse and others. RoC is from that tradition. Although I wish they weren’t scented, they all are terrific and generally affordable (tho Lierac can be pricey). RoC Retinol Correxion is a huge line of retinol-based products. I will eventually check out some of the others in the line.

  11. The formula looks lovely, just the kind I like personally!

    1. You get a lot of bang for your buck with this formula!

  12. I’ve heard very good things about RoC. I’m a sworn retinol-fan, because of acne scarring; I use a 0.04% prescription formula as a go-to, and a 0.1% prescription when I’m feeling really brave (and able to stay home for 10 days while my skin falls off entirely LOL).

    1. Wow, the big guns!!

  13. That sounds great! I also prefer the dewy skin sensation. I wish it had a lighter scent though, based on your description.

    1. I wish it had a slightly lighter or no scent too, but thankfully it goes away once it’s on my face. I’m not sure what it is with European skincare that they love fragrance.

  14. I have a friend who is a bit older than me and she hates that “You look good for your age” line too! This cream sounds really nice. I need to start using a Retinol cream again!

    1. Retinol really is an amazing skincare ingredient for women at any age!

  15. I have sensitive skin and only recently started trying to use products with retinol. So far it seems to have gone well, although I think I like the idea of a creme I can use at night rather than as another serum to add to the mix.
I also hate the qualifiers and hear them a lot “You look good: for your age, for being pregnant, for just having had a baby, for being a mom with young kids, etc. etc……” Let’s just stick with “You look great!”

    1. You’re absolutely right! Why is a qualifier, “you look good for…” necessary? As far as the RoC Retinol Correxion Max Daily Hydration Creme goes, it really is handy to have retinol right in the moisturizer. I also have about a million serums, and after applying even two of them, I’m done!

  16. Like you I also like to rotate different retinol products. Although it’s a myth that the skin gets bored with the same product, I myself definitely do haha!

    1. I have so many oils, serums, toner/essences, and anti-aging creams, and as you said, it’s fun to rotate after a few weeks!

  17. Yvette Price says:

I actually use products with vitamin c, the retinol is a bit harsh on my skin, great review!

    1. I’m almost finished with The Ordinary Vitamin C 30% Suspension with Hyaluronic Acid. It’s a steal for the price (about $7), but if you find retinol harsh, I think this Vitamin C would be too irritating for you.

  18. I am constantly being told I look like I’m in my 20’s when in reality I’m already comfortably into my 40’s. That’s just a nicer way of saying “You look good for your age.” I have had a set skin care routine for years, but I actually have no idea if there is retinol in my products. I’m guessing there isn’t though since they aren’t marketed that way.

    1. That’s wonderful to look younger. You’re obviously doing something right! Even though it makes sense to stay with skincare products that work for you, it’s sometimes good to see what’s new since the skincare industry is always coming out with new ingredients, better ways to stabilize the ingredients, and one’s skin changes over time. That said, before I became a blogger, I think I used the same anti-aging cream for about 10 years 😉

  19. I do use retin0l in my night routine!

  20. Retinol can really work wonders!

  21. I used RoC products in the past but it’s been quite while. I use some form of retinol in my night routine and I’m always interested in checking out other products that include it.

    1. I think it’s so handy to have the retinol mixed in with the moisturizer. Seems to save me from having to use yet another serum!
