Several years ago, I bought what I thought was a beautiful peach metallic Revlon liquid eye shadow. I was smitten by the shade. I also thought that a creamy liquid would be great for my dry eyelids. Wrong. Even on top of eye primer, my dry lids were very unhappy: even drier and itchy. Since then, I gave up on liquid eyeshadow because I thought they would all be too drying for me. Wrong again.

ybf (Your Best Friend) Liquid Star Shadows are creamy liquid shadows that are applied with a flat paddle applicator. They go on smoothly and set in about 20 seconds. During that time, if you wish to blend them or smudge them with your fingers, you can. After that, they set, don’t crease, don’t transfer to skin above the crease, and most important to me, they don’t feel dry!

You can apply a small amount for a sheer wash of color or you can apply a little more so it’s opaque. I find the ybf Liquid Star Shadow formula to be easy to use, not messy and comfortable to wear. It is a very long wearing formula, and it stays on and stays true till I remove it.

The colors are somewhere between metallic and matte, the gold is shimmery, but none are glittery. Before I received the ybf Liquid Star Shadows, I was considering buying a liquid glitter shadow from another brand. I sampled it before purchase, and I discovered that I had glitter all over my face after I tried to remove it. No, just no. The shimmery metallic shadows from ybf are so much better.

I was sent four new Liquid Star Shadow shades, called Volume 2: Here are my swatches. ybf says that no eye primer is necessary.

  • Retrograde Rose: pink
  • Asteroid Amethyst: light purple
  • Cosmic Coco: eggplant; this shade is the most matte of the 4
  • Galaxy Gold: gold metallic/shimmery.

The ybf Liquid Star Shadows line has a total of 8 shades that are sold individually for $18 or in a set of 4 (Volumes 1 and 2) at a big savings, $35-40. They are sold on the ybf website and on HSN.

I’m loving these comfortable, long wearing liquid shadows. They’re perfect for the holiday season. But I’ve been wearing the Rose and the Amethyst shades everyday. In fact, I wondered if others liked them as much as I do, so I read the reviews on HSN and ybf. One reviewer uses the Liquid Star Shadows as highlighter and blush as well as shadow, other more mature women said that they were delighted that these shadows were age appropriate and didn’t accentuate lines. Excellent!

What do you think about these liquid shadows from ybf?

  1. Oh how I wish I’d seen this before I went to Ulta yesterday! I bought a glittery cream shadow from Tarte that goes on nicely but started to fall off after it dried. I was inspired by the glittery silver shadow I saw you wearing last week! …but have all the usual concerns about glittery shadows…. so maybe I’ll trade in the Tarte and order these–they look beautiful!

    1. Oh no, Kim, definitely take it back to Ulta! You have 30 days for a return. I was hoping that ybf would have a silver in their lineup, but they have Ivory in their Volume 1. Nevertheless, the rose, amethyst and gold are all very pretty. What I like best is that they are comfortable to wear, not messy and they stay put. I wish ybf were sold in stores, but HSN has free shipping for the holidays.

  2. I always forget about HSN Love the look of these and really love the light purple! Merry Christmas Allison…. or I guess maybe I hope you had a Happy Hanukkah

    1. Me, too, Sandy. I often don’t order on HSN because I don’t want to pay shipping, but at holiday time so many places have free shipping. Not sure if the ybf site has free shipping, because the set is about $5 cheaper on their site. The Amethyst shade is beautiful, can be worn everyday or gong out, and I love that it is not drying! Thank you for your holiday wishes. We had a nice Hanukkah, though it isn’t a “big” holiday. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and Merry Christmas xoxo

  3. I am so jealous. I received the gold and I love it. I didn’t know why the PR only sent me one shade though. The other colors are gorgeous. I think YBF did a terrific job on the one I have. The set is a great deal. I want them all now.

    1. The gold is beautiful. I hope to wear it again this weekend. I was thrilled to discover that I can successfully wear this liqui-cream shadow because it doesn’t dry out my lids, yay!

  4. I love liquid cream shadow like this. So easy to apply and build up. I would rock all 4 of these colors.

  5. I love Retrograde Rose! These kind of remind me of the Lidstar shadows by Glossier. Love to hear that they don’t crease or dry out your lids, though. I think I’d get so much use out of the Retrograde Rose.

    1. Actually, Jenalyn, three of the four ybf Liquid Star Shadows are quite subtle. Your face, Coco, makes the biggest splash because of the depth of color. Also they are very easy to apply especially if you go for the single shade on the lid 🙂
