Comptoir de Sud Eclats d’Amandes EDP

The Facebook Fragrance Friend group strikes again. One of the members posted her experience with Comptoir de Sud Éclats d’Amandes eau de parfum not too long ago, and I knew I had to try it. Fortunately, this is a more affordable fragrance than some of the others I’ve succumbed to!

The name, Éclats d’Amandes, means “almond shards” in French. And yes, almond is one of the key notes. I don’t believe I have ever worn an almond scent before, but this one has so many of my favorite scent notes that I couldn’t resist trying it.

I would describe Éclats d’Amandes as an oriental-gourmand scent. It has some food-like notes, but I would say the spiciness makes it more of an oriental fragrance.

The main accords (balanced blend of notes that come together to create a new scent “chord”) are:

  • woody
  • almond
  • warm spicy
  • cinnamon
  • sweet
  • nutty
  • fruity
  • powdery
  • vanilla
  • amber.

The notes in Eclats d’Amandes are:

  • top notes (the ones you smell when you first apply it): almond and cinnamon
  • middle notes (the ones you smell after several minutes): tonka bean and cedar
  • base notes (the ones you smell after the fragrance dries down completely): tonka bean, sandalwood and musk.

Éclats d’Amandes has a couple of my favorite notes – tonka bean, sandalwood and musk – as well as lots of my favorite accords – warm spicy, powdery, vanilla, amber – so I felt that I wasn’t taking a big chance on this blind buy. And I was right. This gender neutral scent that was launched in 2019 is a hit for me!

Although I wear fragrances I love all year round, I would say that Éclats d’Amandes is perfect for autumn and winter because of the spiciness. I think it can be worn for day and night.

So far, this scent is quite long lasting on me. I have been having trouble lately being able to smell scents on me a short while after I have applied them, so I am happy to report that Éclats lingers on me for a long time. Spraying it on clothing makes it last until the clothes are washed. Some might describe this scent as “a beast” because of its strength. Because these days we have to stay at least 6 feet apart from others, a scent with strong or at least decent sillage (the ability to broadcast the scent an arm’s length) is a must.

The packaging is attractive, though not overly fancy. The glass bottle is a translucent pale gray so you can see how much is inside.

Comptoir Sud Pacifique Eclats d’Amandes comes in both eau de parfum and eau de toilette in two sizes, 1.01 fl. oz./30 ml and 3.3 fl. oz./100 ml. I bought mine, one ounce of the eau de parfum, on eBay, and I got an unused spray bottle, still wrapped in cellophane, for about $35. Frankly, it was a real deal because I just saw one ounce of the eau de toilette that is typically less for the same price on Amazon. And the 30 ml/1 fl. oz. EDP is $52 on the Comptoir Sud Pacifique website. Yes! Also, the 100 ml size is available on Fragrancenet.com for less than $88 with their 25% off coupon.

So if you’re a fan of spicy, warm scents, you need to try Éclats d’Amandes.

  1. Ooh, this almost sounds like my perfect scent with the almond, cinnamon, and tonka, but I’m not always into sandalwood and amber. I think I’d need to sniff this one first! I have their Vanille Abricot and am waiting on a Sephora order with Vanille Cafe. I may just have to look at the ones on sale too, I’ve become a total fan of their vanilla based scents.
