Beauty Products I Forgot I Had & A New One

Jeff’s older daughter was visiting him this past week from NC, and on Saturday we did a couple of fun things outdoors. In the afternoon, we went on a hike through the woods that came out on giant granite boulders at the ocean.

For that outing, moisturizer with SPF was a must. I found an unopened tube of Coola Sport Organic Classic Face Sunscreen SPF 50. Perfect for the occasion. It is a lightweight lotion because it is made with chemical sunscreen ingredients. It is also reef-safe, vegan, fragrance-free, and cruelty-free. If you use chemical sunscreens, I highly recommend this one.

Ingredients: Active: Avobenzone 1.75%, Homosalate 5.0%, Octisalate 2.0%, Octocrylene 5.0%. Inactive: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Organic), Brassica Campestris (Rapeseed) Seed Oil, Butylene Glycol, Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oleosomes, Carthamus Tinctorius (Organic Safflower) Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seedcake Extract, Decyl Glucoside, Dimethicone, Flavor, Glycerin (Organic), Hydrogenated Methyl Abietata, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Jojoba Esters, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Mauritia Flexuosa Fruit Oil, 1,2 Hexanediol, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Flower Extract, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Polysilicone-11, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Seed Oil, Silica, Sodium Phytate, Tropolone, Xanthan Gum.

In the evening, we went out for an outdoor dinner. For me, it was an opportunity to put on some makeup for a change. In searching through my stash, I came upon several makeup products that I had forgotten all about, and I decided to wear them. I wore Stellar Foundation, a wonderful lightweight, medium foundation that I love.

Instead of struggling with the Rare Beauty Blush that fades in minutes regardless of whether I wear it over foundation and/or set it with powder, I found the Honest Beauty cream blush in the shade, Rose Pink, that I bought last year. Though the shade is “pink”, on me it reads peach which is fine. Whereas the Rare Beauty Blush is an oily-ish but super lightweight cream, Honest Beauty cream is stiffer and heavier in comparison, but that turns out to be a plus because it really lasts. I applied it with my finger and then I used an angled blush brush to sheer it out with more precision. It has a satin finish. The Honest Beauty Blush goes back in the rotation for more frequent use. I should have returned the Rare Beauty Cream Blush.

Next, I took out my snack size Natasha Denona Mini Star Palette that I bought a couple of years ago during a Sephora VIB sale. I decided to wear the duochrome shade that I think is named Orion. In the pan, it is a deep teal with a red shift. I applied it over my usual Urban Decay Anti-Aging Primer Potion. On my eyes, it read as medium brown with red patches. Honestly, it was very disappointing. I just swatched it on my arm, and in the light, I can see a bit of teal shimmer, but believe me, it shows up only under the best of lighting conditions. Next time I reach for the Mini Star Palette, I will use the other shades instead, and they are very nice.

I didn’t have time to remove the duochrome, so I threw caution to the wind and decided to try out the Haus Laboratories Glam Attack Metallic Creme shadow in the shade, Gunmetal, that I got last week in my Ipsy Plus Bag.

With the angled applicator, it was very easy to apply as an all-over the lid shadow, and I applied it right on top of the ND duochrome easily covering it except where it peeked out in the crease. The metallic shade looked medium silver-grey in some lighting conditions and deep charcoal in others. The shadow stayed put till I removed it, and it didn’t crease. Unlike other liquid or cream shadows I’ve tried in the past that were so drying they made my lids itch, this creamy liquid shadow was not drying at all. Gunmetal is very dramatic, and truth be told, I think it was too much for the deck at The Studio in Gloucester, but whatever.

I need to find my tube of bright white Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow primer that I bought a while back to try it out with Gunmetal and see if it will lighten the shade a bit. Because I really loved the smudge-proof, opaque Haus Laboratories formula, the next time I see a sale at HL, I will buy a tube in a different shade (there are 19 shades on Amazon but only 4 on the HL website; what’s up with that?) that I can wear more often.

Ingredients: Isododecane, Mica, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Isohexadecane, Propylene Carbonate, Polyester-4, Polyethylene, Silica, VP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Aqua/Water/Eau, May Contain/Peut Contenir (+/-): Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Aluminum Powder (CI 77000), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)

Finally, I found a tube of Korean Touch in Sol Pretty Filter Soul Velvet Lipstick in the shade, Seoul Rose, that I got in an Ipsy Plus Bag last year.

Since I haven’t been wearing lipstick very often, I put it in a makeup bag and forgot what a fabulous lightweight, semi-matte, non-drying lipstick it is. Seoul Rose is a vibrant rose shade that is so cheerful. Now that I don’t have to wear a mask all the time since I am vaccinated, I will wear it more often.

I am glad I found some of my forgotten cosmetics and used them. Have you found any makeup or skincare products you forgot about but still love?

  1. Great use of your stash. I love rediscovering things. I rediscovered a Revolution e/s palette last week and have worn it a few times since. I’m disappointed in my Rare Beauty liquid blush so I don’t think I’ll go back to that brand. That’s a great lipstick shade for you.
