Abib Cosmetic, Skincare from Korea: Okjuk Essence and Jericho Rose Creme

I am always curious about skincare products from Asia, so I was delighted when I was given an opportunity to try a number of Abib skincare products from Korea. The word “abib” means “the first month”, and Abib Cosmetic is a science-based brand of skincare products and makeup that aims to restart the beauty cycle. They have a large product range. Their packaging is minimalist, gender neutral, and it focuses on maintaining the efficacy of the products’ ingredients. The products are affordable.

Abib’s four goals are to:

  • increase the self-regenerating power of skin
  • protect skin from toxic ingredients and toxic environmental stressors
  • exfoliate: remove dead skin cells
  • slow the aging process.

Abib Cosmetic is beginning to introduce itself to the U.S. market. It can be purchased on Amazon.

Because I have a number of Abib products, I will review a couple at a time. The first two products that I have been using are Okjuk Essence and Jericho Rose Creme.

Okjuk Essence

Abib Okjuk Essence is a translucent, white, fragrance-free gel-cream that comes in a clean-looking, pale grey pump bottle. Two pumps cover my face and neck. I use it morning and night after cleansing. It is hydrating, it feels nourishing, helps my skin feel more elastic, and it sinks into my skin in a minute or two. It is appropriate for all skin types.

Okjuk is Solomon’s Seal, and Okjuk Essence is made with 55% Solomon’s Seal extract (it’s the first ingredient in the list below). Solomon’s Seal is a native plant where I live, and it grows wild in the woods at the edge of my yard. If it weren’t dark outside, I would include a photo of my Solomon’s Seal plants, but this will have to do 😉

Who knew that Solomon’s Seal, an elegant shade plant, is good for skin?! It actually has lots of skincare benefits:

  • revitalizing skin to help it look more youthful
  • healing blemishes
  • calms redness
  • helps heal bruises
  • protects skin from sun damage and helps heal damage from the sun.

Abib Okjuk Essence contains 50 ml and is priced around $24. It can be purchased on Amazon, Yesstyle, Stylevana, and other retailers.

Ingredients: Polygonatum Officinale Rhizome/Root Extract, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Glycereth-26, Methyl Gluceth-20, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Methicone, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Phytosteryl/Behenyl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate , Sodium Hyaluronate, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Cetearyl Olivate, Glyceryl Stearate, Silica, Sorbitan Olivate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Caprylyl Glycol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tromethamine, Adenosine, Tocopherol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA

Jericho Rose Créme

Abib Jericho Rose Créme continues the minimalist theme. It is not pink, it does not smell like roses. It comes in a simple off-white tube with the ingredients listed on the front!

Jericho Rose Créme is a rich white, fragrance-free cream that spreads easily and sinks into the skin after a minute or two. I tend to use it at night because it is so nourishing and because it doesn’t have sunscreen. It is hydrating and adds radiance to my skin. Although it says it is for all skin types, I think it would best suit those with dry skin.

The tube contains 75 ml and is priced around $30. It’s sold on Amazon, Yesstyle, Stylevana, and other retailers that carry Korean skincare products.

    1. I love Asian essences, and Abib’s essence is terrific. Most essences that I have tried are liquids, but this one is more like a serum. And yes, it is a healing essence.

  1. Good to hear that they are fragrance free although I’ve learned the hard way that sometimes some natural fragrance is in products. I don’t actually have any Asian products on tap right now. I dont know why.

    1. So far, the Abib skincare products I’ve tried don’t have any scent that I can perceive. But you are right about natural fragrance from natural ingredients.
