Lots of Shea Butter Body Creams from Derma E!

Derma E sent me three of their new “Enhanced Formula” body lotions made from shea butter.  I guess that means they are improved versions of previously existing lotions, but since I had not tried them before, they are new to me.

Like all Derma E products, they are cruelty-free, “clean beauty” skincare products. They are gluten-free, soy-free and 100% vegan. They are made with NO parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, petrolatum, sulfates, mineral oil, artificial colors or fragrances. These body lotions are dermatologist recommended.

They come in easy to use, recyclable plastic tubes. As much as I loved Typology’s 10 Ingredient Hydrating Body Cream that came in an old school, apothecary-style metal tube, it was harder to use when I was at the end of the tube and it got all crumpled up. Very easy to squeeze plastic tubes for the win. Each tube contains 8 fl. oz.

I received three different formulas of shea butter body lotions from Derma E:

Vitamin E Fragrance-Free Sensitive Skin Body Lotion

I started out using the Vitamin E Fragrance-Free Sensitive Skin Body Lotion because it was, well, fragrance-free! The vast majority of Derma E products are fragrance-free, and all of them have no artificial fragrance. But when it comes to body lotion, it’s often nice to have a fragrance-free lotion that doesn’t compete or conflict with whichever perfume I happen to be wearing. As a result, I tend to use this one most often.

Vitamin E Fragrance-Free Sensitive Skin Body Lotion is designed to calm and soothe. Its key ingredients are aloe, chamomile and Pycnogenol, the “brand name” for pine bar extract. Chamomile is soothing and gentle as is aloe. In fact, I have used my aloe vera plant twice in the past two weeks for burns that I have gotten taking things out of my oven. Pycnogenol is less well known, but it’s a powerhouse skincare ingredient, an antioxidant that reduces redness and inflammation but also helps reduce the visible signs of aging. It increases the body’s ability to produce hyaluronic acid that aids in hydration, and it also helps with collagen production to increase skin’s elasticity. I hope there’s lots of Pycnogenol in the formula, lol. Soothing and deeply moisturizing shea butter rounds out the key ingredients.

This is a terrific body lotion. Like the other two, it’s rich, not runny and very easy to apply. It sinks into my skin as I rub it in. And it feels like it lasts all day.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safower) Seed Oil, Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (Vegetable Derived), Cetyl Alcohol (Plant Derived), Stearic Acid (Vegetable Derived), Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract*, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Allantoin, Glyceryl Stearate (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside (Plant Derived), Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Phytate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin. *Certified Organic Ingredients

Lemongrass & Thyme Tone-Correcting Shea Body Lotion

I love the smell of lemongrass, so I was all in for trying this one too! Plus, I grow thyme in my garden and use it all the time in cooking. The scent is decidedly herbal, but it isn’t the least bit overpowering. You can only smell it if you put your nose right up near the cream. Once I have applied it to my skin, it dissipates almost immediately.

Lemongrass & Thyme Tone-Correcting Shea Body Lotion is formulated with vitamin C and licorice extract to revitalize and fade areas of discoloration and minimize the appearance of sun-damage and age spots. The Polyhydroxy Acids exfoliate and smooth.

An 8 oz. tube is priced at $9.99.

Ingredients: Puried Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (Vegetable Derived), Cetyl Alcohol (Plant Derived), Stearic Acid (Vegetable Derived), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C Ester), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemongrass) Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Allantoin, Glyceryl Stearate (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside (Plant Derived), Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Phytate, Sodium Benzoate, Gluconolactone, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Natural Fragrance Oils.

Vitamin E Lavender & Neroli Skin Smoothing Shea Body Lotion

Now, this body lotion is a little different. Enriched with salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acids, Skin Smoothing Shea Body Lotion is an exfoliant for rough, bumpy or dull skin to help visibly improve the skin’s appearance and make it look healthier and smoother. With ceramides to restore skin’s moisture barrier and shea butter to hydrate, skin is softened as well as re-texturized.

Since this lotion does more than address my dry skin needs, I haven’t used it beyond squeezing out a little bit to see how it smells. It smells delightful – the neroli softens the herbal lavender scent. And like the Lemongrass & Thyme variant, the scent is mild and doesn’t linger. Because I don’t really need a body exfoliant (my dry brush works for my run of the mill exfoliating needs), I would be happy to send this tube to the first person who comments that they need it. LMK.

Perhaps because of the alpha hydroxy acids and ceramides, Vitamin E Lavender & Neroli Skin Smoothing Shea Body Lotion is a bit more expensive than the rest of the shea body lotion collection at $12.95 for 8 fl. oz.

Ingredients: Puried Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate Citrate (Vegetable Derived), Cetyl Alcohol (Plant Derived), Lactic Acid, Stearic Acid (Vegetable Derived), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Sodium Hyaluronate, Ceramide NG, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Allantoin, Glyceryl Stearate (Vegetable Derived), Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside (Plant Derived), Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Phytate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Natural Fragrance Oils. *Certified Organic Ingredients Due to the use of natural ingredients, the color of this product may slightly alter over time.

In addition to these three shea body lotions, there are still a couple more! Rosehip & Almond Anti-Aging Shea Body Lotion (I wish I had this one, too!) and Jasmine & Vanilla Ultra Moisturizing Shea Body Lotion, also sounds great!
