Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer, Aurora and Big Bang

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer, lipgloss, drugstore lipgloss

As I’ve mentioned before, I recently received a @JollyVoxBox from Influenster with a bunch of goodies to try out and review. I was lucky to receive a new Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer in a gorgeous deep coral shade, Aurora, that was the perfect shade for me. In the overcast daylight photos, the shades looks redder and less coral than it really is.

RimmelShowOffAuroraswatchRimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer is new. In fact, I just saw a limited edition-looking display at one of my local CVS stores. So, I’m not sure whether it’s an LE or whether it may become part of the regular Rimmel line up. It may have started out as an exclusive at Walgreens. Whatever it is, I would act fast, because these babies are going to sell out fast. In fact, I loved the one I got in my VoxBox so much, that I bought another one, the last red in the display, Big Bang. Big Bang is a true red with blue undertones. I took these photos in sunshine, and they have “warmed up” both my skintone and the color of the lipstick.

What’s so great about this lip lacquer is that it’s a hybrid: the high-impact color of a  lipstick with the gloss of a lipgloss. But unlike lipgloss, this lip lacquer isn’t sticky once it “sets”, so I don’t have to be worried about my hair sticking to my lips if the wind blows.

And it is soooo comfortable to wear. Very moisturizing and smooth. You apply it with the doe-foot sponge applicator, and it just glides on. That said, lipliner is a must to get a nice line (and it looks like I screwed up a bit. Oh well!). Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer reminds me of Stila Stay All Day Lipgloss: glossy, highly pigmented, long-lasting, and thankfully no peppermint oil in it.

Though it doesn’t last through a meal, it stays on for several hours otherwise. When it fades, it leaves some color on your lips.

It does have a melon-scent that you can smell when you apply it, and then the scent fades. I like the scent, it doesn’t bother me.

Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer is available in 14 shades ranging from nudes to brights. I don’t believe that there were 14 shades on the display at CVS, but I think there’s a larger selection at Walgreens. The size of the tube is 0.18 fl. oz. It’s made in England. The price seems to range from $4.99 at Walgreens.com to $6.29 at CVS. (Why is CVS always so much more expensive than every place else? I had a CVS coupon, so I bought it there.)

Here’s the copy on the product from Rimmel:

“Earth-Shattering Color

      • For the first time, the intense, richer color of a lipstick is enhanced by a smooth satin shine
      • Ultra-intense, ultra-comfortable – it lasts all day
      • It’s neither a lipstick… nor a gloss… it’s BIGGER than both

The earth-shattering lip lacquer from Rimmel London combining the intense color of lipstick with a lacquer like shine, Show Off Lip Lacquer is an explosive make-up phenomenon that represents the end of color as you know it.  Packed with pure color pigments, its lusciously creamy, conditioning formula promises a never-before combination of color, shine and comfort that last and last.”

I agree with what they said. Buy this lip lacquer. You won’t regret it (unless you don’t like melon-scent).

Rimmel London is owned by Coty. My assumption is not cruelty-free, made in a factory that has gluten ingredients (though the formula appears to be gluten-free), and it does contain parabens. I like it anyway. 😉

Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Trisostearyl Citrate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Ozokerite, Kaolin, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Silica, Parfum/Fragrance, Ascorbyl Phosphate, Serica (Silk Powder), Tocopheryl Acetate, Methylparaben, Propylparben, Tocopherol, Ethylparben, Retinyl Palmitate, Tin Oxide, May Contain (+/-):, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), D&C Red No. 7 Calcium Lake (CI 15850), D&C Red No. 6 Barium Lake (CI 15850), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), FD&C Yellow No 5 Aluminum Lake (CI 19140), D&C Red 27 Aluminum Lake (CI 45410), D&C Red No. 33 Aluminum Lake (CI 17200), FD&C BLUE NO. 1 ALUMINUM LAKE (CI 42090), FD&C Yellow No. 6 Aluminum Lake (CI 15985), Carmine (CI 75470)

One of the lip lacquers was provided complimentary from Influenster as part of the JollyVoxBox to try it and review. I liked it so much, I bought another shade on my own.

    1. Both shades are really beautiful, Tina! The light really makes a difference, and that cold, grey winter daylight really makes my eyes look blue. I wish they always looked that blue lol 😉

    1. I really like ’em, Monica! I’ve got some CVS bucks too, if I can only dig out from the 2 feet of snow we got. I need your handcream that smells like Hawaii, lol 😉
