Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick & Giveaway Winner

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick "Light It Up"

First, let me congratulate Natalie C. B. on being selected by the Rafflecopter widget as winner of the Reviva Labs Peptides & More Anti-Wrinkle Cream Giveaway! Woo hoo! I have sent the winner an email and hope to hear back from her most likely today (Monday). Thank you also to all who entered. Reviva Labs and I both appreciate your interest. And there will be another giveaway from a different brand starting later this week, so stay tuned!

Years ago on a business trip to San Francisco, I discovered a Bare Escentuals store not far from the Embarcadero. I fell in love with their lipstick. A while after that, I was happy to find another Bare Escentuals store in an airport somewhere in the midwest when I was on another business trip, and I scored another lipstick.

Then Bare Escentuals hit the big time with Bare Minerals. Frankly, I forgot all about the parent brand, Bare Escentuals, and their lipsticks that I used to love. I got caught up in the mineral craze. And I somehow didn’t make the connection between the two brand names. And I didn’t associate Bare Minerals with lipstick. Duh.

A month ago or so, I received a sample size Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick in “Get Ready” in my ipsy bag. It’s the little lipstick in the photo below.

It was the first lipstick mini I’ve ever received. So handy to throw in my makeup bag in my purse. And I love the “Get Ready” shade, a rich rose pink with a bit of plum and brown tones thrown in that I find both flattering for my light skin tone and great for everyday.

Funny that I didn’t associate the new BM lipstick with the expertise that Bare Escentuals had with lipsticks years ago. At any rate, I really like Marvelous Moxie formula. The Bare Minerals website says that it is infused with vitamins and minerals. Good for you lipstick! It is super-saturated, highly-pigmented color, full coverage lipstick with a satin finish. It’s easy to apply and it glides on. It stays put on my lips and doesn’t migrate into my fine lines. It has a number of oils in it, and it is quite hydrating without being mushy. It’s relatively lightweight, and it lasts for several hours unless I eat something with oil in it, e.g. salad dressing, olive oil etc.

Recently, I accumulated 1000 points on ipsy that I received through referrals and from product feedback I gave on the products I received in my ipsy bags. I was elated when I noticed that ipsy added a full-size Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in “Light It Up” to the product lineup that I could redeem my points for. Woo hoo!

Although I wasn’t as much in love with the contents of my May ipsy bag as usual, I was excited to receive my Marvelous Moxie Lipstick.

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick "Light It Up"

“Light It Up” is described as “vibrant melon”. I’d say it’s a great coral.

Actually, I’ve been dying to get an orange lippie since it’s one of the hot shades for Summer 2014, and with my red hair, I definitely can rock orange. This orange has a hint of red in it that makes it coral, so it’s wearable for those who might be a little timid about going completely orange.

Sometimes, “Light It Up” looks darker and more coral on my lips and sometimes it looks peachier. I think it looks peachier in the photo below, but it really is coral.

Marvelous Moxie Lipstick comes in 18 shades, so I’ve got 16 more to try 😉  The packaging is black plastic like the rest of the product line, but it has a neat feature. The lipstick tube has a silver button that locks the top onto the tube so it won’t slide off in your purse.

The price is $18 for 0.12 fl.oz/3.5 ml. Bare Minerals is cruelty-free.

  1. Thank you so very much for your review of these lipsticks. I love that you showed the color on your hand and lips. I only shop online (dang anxiety) and this helps a ton. Have a fabulous day.

    1. Oh, Mumzie, you are very welcome! And now I realize that I forgot to swatch the first one, the medium pink “Get Ready”. oops! I will try to do it later and update the post. I agree that swatches really make shopping online for makeup much easier by taking out some of the risk. Thank you so much for the comment! Hope you’re having a great day, too!

  2. I didn’t realise these had a locking mechanism! I love nifty packaging. This shade looks great on you, by the way. Even with my red hair I still feel orange is hard. I feel like I have to wear matching polish or else it looks too obvious. If that makes any sense, lol

    1. It is cool packaging, Rach. This orange is more coral so it’s really not so hard to wear, at least with my shade of red hair! Take a look next time you’re shopping. 🙂

  3. Bonjour Allison, the coral lipstick is absolutely stunning on you!!!! Bonne journée ma belle!!!! Nathalie xoxo

  4. I haven’t tried the lipsticks, but I have a lip gloss in a deep purple shade that I like very much 🙂 Congrats on all your points too !!

    Monica.

  5. I traded in my points for the same Moxie shade and I’m still trying to figure out if it is something I really can pull off. I have a look in mind for it so I hope it will work for me. 😉

    1. Gee, I hope you can, Honey! I think the coral would look lovely on you. To me, it seemed like a good shade for cool or warm skin tones.

    1. It definitely looks red-coral in the swatch. On my lips, it becomes peachier than I would have expected. Maybe my lips are lighter and that lightens the shade, but I like it anyway.
