Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick

non-drying, affordable matte lipsticks

Just when I thought I already found my new HG matte lipsticks, I received the new Modern Matte line of lipsticks from Jordana. I’ve become obsessed with them.

Here’s what Jordana has to say about their new matte lipsticks:

  • Modern Matte Lipsticks are a Winning Combination of High Payoff Pigments and Special Ingredients that Comfortably Extend the Wear
  • Expertly Selected Shades Have an All-Day Wear Without the Typical ‘Dry Lip’ Finish that Feathers and Cracks
  • Talc and Paraben-Free
  • Made In USA

They’re not kidding about the “high payoff pigments”. All 12 shades are just incredible! From MLBB neutrals to purples to orange to red, this lineup has it all.

So far, Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks are the least drying matte lipsticks I have ever worn. My lips are often dry and sensitive, but I have no problem at all wearing these pretties. They are not hydrating but they don’t leave my lips looking and feeling parched like so many others do.

Check out the swatches of these beauties:

I would definitely run out and buy a bunch of these stunning lippies, if I were you. At $2.49 each for 0.11 oz., you can pick up a nice variety of shades for the price of one prestige lipstick. Jordana is sold on the Jordana website as well as at Walgreens.

  1. These look lovely and that pink is perfect for spring! I’ve always had bad luck with matte products and being too dry but these sound nice and at that price I’m not out that much if I don’t like them!

    1. Same here, Jen. My poor NARS Matte Velvet red lip crayon sits unused most of the time. But these mattes from Jordana are different. They don’t dry out my dry lips and the shades are just so darn gorgeous!

  2. Try as I may, I just cannot get on board the matte bandwagon. They look so nice on others – can we stop to say how great they look on you?!? – but pour moi, the effect is just….blah. Not my thing, I guess. 😛
Still, at $2.49 I may find myself giving it yet another go, hahaha

    1. I don’t think it’s mandatory, Rach! Truth be told, I like a satin finish best. But I must say, these shades are so gorgeous that I can’t resist them. Plus they’re not drying on me so they look better on my lips than other mattes. I bought a gorgeous red matte lip crayon from NARS but I don’t use it very often ‘coz it’s so drying.

  3. The colors are absolutely gorgeous, and the fact that they are the least drying matte lipsticks that you have tried makes them well worth trying (especially at that price point). I don’t expect matte lipsticks to be moisturizing, but I definitely avoid wearing the ones that suck the moisture out of my lips! I want Adorable, and absolutely love it on you!

    1. Thank you! I don’t usually wear this shade of pinky purple outside of full-on summer, but it is fun. The red ones and some of the nude shades are my favorites. These are even more wearable than the Milani mattes. They really don’t dry my lips, but sometimes I had City Lips Lip Plumper on top for added hydration and just lose the matte. I love the shades themselves so much!

  4. Hehe I know it’s not mandatory, but when other people are having so much fun I wonder what it is that I must be missing. #sillymakeupproblems
I’ve often looked at the NARS display but never bought one of the crayons. Crayons are not my most preferred lip colour product (though I love them for eyes, go figure) and I was always worried about them being too drying for my lips. I’m pleased to see them as this year’s Sephora birthday gift though- I’ll finally be able to try them and not feel guilty if I still don’t like the formula.

    1. Oh, I forgot that NARS is this year’s bday gift, yay! Unfortunately, the matte crayons are really drying. I wonder if NARS’ non-matte crayons are easier to wear? Hopefully so. But you’re right, free is good, no obligation!

    1. Unfortunately, they’re probably hard to find outside of the US except on Amazon. But these matte lippies are really wonderful and so affordable here

    1. Mine are too, Erika, though using City Lips with HA and collagen has helped this winter more than anything else I had tried in the past. The Jordana mattes are the most wearable of any mattes I’ve tried. If my lips are ultra dry, I put City Lips on top and lose the matte which is OK coz it’s the colors that I like the most rather than the finish. And thank you, I do love that red and the red/orange too!

  5. Yes, I wore it tonight after I rinsed out my hair color. What’s so funny is when I read your review I was coveting the Blush shade the most followed by Classy. The formula is so nice. I cannot believe the price point for such a quality lipstick. I hope I can find these where I live. Thank you so much. I would never have tried these otherwise. We are down to one car so I am not able to get out much. I wonder if Ulta carries this brand?
P.S. Make sure you wear that red lippie because it looks like it was made for you.

    1. I’m glad you liked them and that Blush was one of the shade you wanted. I tried to send neutrals. Did you try the nude cheek stick yet? If so, did the color show up on your skin? Not knowing, I just guessed on that one. Jordana is sold at Walgreens. Some Walgreens have the whole product line and others just have a few products but I think most Walgreens will have this new matte line. They also sell on the Jordana website but then there’s the shipping that I try to avoid. I hope your hair came out well!!

    1. Wow, Dare is gorgeous! I’ll bet it looks great on you. I haven’t tried it yet since I am hesitant about berry and purple shades, but I will. I don’t find these mattes nearly as drying as other mattes, but they aren’t hydrating, and at this point, I need to add hydration to my lips. I don’t tend to wear them for hours on end which is one reason I didn’t give a wear time. If I am going to wear them for more than a few hours, I put City Lips Lip Plumper – my go-to HA & collagen lip hydrator – right on top of it. I love the shades in this collection more than I care about the matte finish…but that’s just me. Enjoy Dare and I hope you’ll use it in a look that you post on your blog!!
