Jetsetter ipsy Bag May 2015

subscription service, makeup subscription, beauty box

It was the post office’s fault that my May 2015 ipsy bag got delivered first to a city 30 miles from where I live, next to my local post office (2 miles from my house) where it was sorted, then sent on to the Boston post office where it was sorted again and finally returned to the same local post office 2 miles from my house from which it was eventually delivered. Whew. But at least I got it.

And it was worth the wait. The Jetsetter ipsy bag that I received was another good one. Some of the stuff fits the Jetsetter theme that’s connected to travel, e.g. purse-size items, and, I guess, jet setting to say, the south of France, and its association with tanning?…but who cares. Let’s get to the goodies.

First, the bag itself. I have always wanted a Breakups To Makeup bag. They have such witty makeup related sayings on them. This one is made of heavy cotton, and I love the larger size. I can carry a lot of stuff in this one.

Here’s what I got inside the bag:

Right off the bat, this month’s bag was well worth the $10 I paid for it. Just the two full size products alone are worth $25.

The Urban Decay universal lipliner is great! I misplaced my Milani Anti-Feathering Lipliner some time ago, and I’ve been lost without it. So the UD pencil goes right into my makeup bag.

The Skone Cosmetics Automatic Eyeliner, thank goodness, is called navy and is actually a very pretty shade somewhere between navy and teal. At least it’s not black! Yay! I’ll definitely use it.

A Facebook friend of mine was kind enough to give me her Luxie blush brush a couple of months ago, and I like it a lot. It’s soft with a cute pink handle. I haven’t lost any bristles. So I’m happy to add the tapered blending shadow brush to my collection. I’ll use it a lot.

The Cotz Face tinted moisturizer with SPF 40 would’ve been great for someone with darker skin, but it is waaaaaaaay to dark for me. Wearing it, I look like my face is dirty. I’ll gift this to someone with darker complexion. Kinda sad about this because Cotz Face does have a great lineup of sunscreens and moisturizers, and there is a product for Lighter Skin.

The St. Tropez Instant Glow Body Lotion was a surprise. It comes out of the generously sized tube a dark brown color which is a little alarming. However, it does work well, and I typically hate anything that gives a faux tan. This lotion makes my skin look like it has a bit of a tan, and it is a natural shade. Plus, it washes off with soap. So, if I need to wear a dress or go sleeveless early in the season, I would definitely use this. In person, I can see the difference more than in the photo. My sun-damaged legs look huge from this angle but here goes:

With the exception of Cotz Face, I will use everything in this month’s bag including the makeup bag. So I am definitely pleased. If you’re not already a subscriber and would like to try it out, I’d be grateful if you’d use my referral code.  😀

If you are an ipsy subscriber, what did you get in your May ipsy bag? What’d you think?

  1. sounds like a great bag! This is the first month that my cancellation (finally) went through. Oh well! Enjoy your bag !

    1. Congrats on your cancellation, Lois! It was a good bag this month except for the too dark tinted moisturizer/sunscreen. The faux tanner was the surprise!

  2. Hi Allison, does the St. Tropez lotion smell like a typical tanning lotion? Just curious. I like the subtle look it gave your legs!

    1. No, Kim. It doesn’t have any discernible scent, but then my nose is so stuffed up from pollen. I took a shower yesterday before I applied it so I haven’t showered again and I can still see the shade difference in my two legs. The faux tanner is actually the surprisingly most interesting product in the bag!

  3. Awesome bag! I love Breakups to Makeup. I met the owner, Angelique, at The Makeup Show Orlando, and she is just the sweetest person you’ll ever meet. And so passionate! I really love the message behind her brand. I need one of their makeup bags, I just have two tank tops!

    1. I remember reading about Angelique and her brand, and I’ve always wanted something from her product line. How cool that you actually met her!

    1. Hahaha, Judy! I’ve been on the fence about canceling myself but the last several bags have been so worth it plus the stuff I don’t use will go into my giveaway stash so I keep it, lol. I’m thrilled to get the UD Ozone pencil especially since I misplaced my Milani universal pencil. And that faux tanner was a real surprise!

    1. That’s so funny, Kimberly! I think they should stop giving foundation-like products coz it’s impossible to get it right for most of us. Both the eye and lip pencils were great, and frankly, I was surprised that I like the self-tanner since I never use them.

  4. I had a mishap with my Birchbox this month – it wasn’t delivered to the wrong post office, but it was delivered completely crushed and everything inside had leaked out. Eek! Thankfully they quickly sent a new one! This months bag is so cute, and I love the Breakups to Makeups bags, they have such great quality and fit so much! I hope Sephora restocks them and adds more, the fun little sayings are adorable.

    1. Sorry that you had a problem with your subbie too! But happy to hear Birchbox replaced it pronto 🙂 And I noticed your Breakups to Makeups bag in your post today! Loved that saying!

    1. I’m shocked to say that I like it, Chelsea. I’ve never like self-tanner but this seems quite good. I love that I can just wash it off, and the color is natural-looking, though the dark dirt brown lotion in the tube was a bit alarming!

  5. Nice selection! I received different items. My subscription was a gift so I can’t change preferences according to Ipsy, so, it’s always a surprise. lol The St. Tropez Instant Glow Body Lotion looks like a nice product for fair skinned girls like us.

    1. What??? You can’t change your preferences? Did you contact ipsy help? I would make a big deal about it coz that makes no sense at all. Whine and they will help you! The St. Tropez self-tanner was a huge surprise to me, Valerie. I expected to hate it like I do most faux tanners, and when the dirt brown lotion came out of the tube, I almost died. But it works shockingly well. And I like that it washes off with water, and only lasts for about a day. Cool product. So what did you get?? You didn’t get the UD clear lipliner?

      1. I have to buy that lotion. Several years ago Philosophy had a tint like this and it was the only body product that looked good on my snow white skin. Regarding Ipsy, after a couple of inquiries, they told me I needed the order # from the person who gave me the subscription. I just can’t do that, so I decided to just enjoy whatever they send. I may not buy a second year though because of how they responded. Not a big deal 🙂

        1. I hope you like the St. Tropez if you go for it. I wonder if there are deluxe sample tubes (50 ml/1.7 fl.oz.) like I got so you can try it out? Regarding ipsy, you’re a better person than I am Valerie! Since they’re not being helpful, you’ve got the right attitude. Beauty Box 5 is a similar subbie box for the same $.

  6. Ugh the dang post office!! Mine got delivered 3 days ago but to my surprise it’s still sitting in my package pile, unopened. I’ve been so busy with work. I may go check it out now just to see what I got since I delete my emails so I don’t want to spoil the surprise each month

    1. Same with me, Brigitte, I don’t look in advance, I like to be surprised! I’m glad the bag got here and I did like everything except for the sunscreen that makes me look like I have a dirty face. Hopefully, I can give it to someone. What do you do for work, BTW?

    1. The BtoM bag is just the cutest. I was thrilled to get it coz I don’t have anything from them and really wanted to get something. I’ve had several good months in a row. They’ve kinda gotten their act together, at least somewhat. Still worth the 10 bucks

    1. I’ve had several good months of ipsy in a row, Norah. I think you’re right. I don’t know if they have new management or people from L’Oreal finally got involved or what, but it does seem better to me, too.

  7. I’m happy with my package this month too. I didn’t know that the bag was made by Breakups so that makes it even better since I loved it as soon as I saw it. I’m looking forward to trying the brush and the Ozone liner. For $10 it’s like going to Starbucks twice – I’d rather have Ipsy.

  8. We got a few of the same products this month! I’m especially loving the makeup bag — I had been wanting to buy one by that brand anyway! Sorry yours took a little while to get to you but I’m glad it finally arrived.

  9. That full size St. Tropez looks awesome! I got a few different things than you…I’ll put it on YouTube later tonight. But I totally didn’t make the travel/jetsetting connection at first…I was just like, why is everything sample size and tanning related???? Haha!

    1. The St. Tropez body lotion is pretty awesome and a big surprise to me that I’d actually like it. It’s not a full size tube (full size is 5 oz.) but it’s big enough for me to get a lot of use out of it. Jetsetters in the 1960s used to jet off to St. Tropez and other beaches in the south of France. Way before your time, lol

    1. I was going to try plastic gloves for when I use it all over. Just applying it on my leg, it washed right off my hand. But I was concerned about using it all over and ending up with an orange hand. I’ll have to see if I can find an inexpensive tanning mitt at TJs or Marshalls. Thanks for mentioning it, Sammi!

  10. Hi! I received the UD liner & Luxie brush too! They’re really nice. I also got the BellaPierre black gel liner. At first, I wasn’t too thrilled with another black liner but, wow, it’s seriously pigmented & waterproof! They sent me the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo (full size), which is really, really generous but, I don’t use dry shampoo, so somebody will be quite happy when I gift it to them. My last product was the rose face cream. I don’t like the smell of artificial rose so I’ll be gifting that too. Overall though, I was super happy this month. Thanks for sharing your bag too. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Natalie, for letting me know what you got. I’d be gifting the dry shampoo too since I don’t use it either. But I’m curious about the rose face cream – I didn’t realize that was one of the options. The BellaPierre gel liner sounds fabulous! I could use a new gel liner although I should wear the Milani gel-ish liners that I’ve got. Didn’t you love the Breakups to Makeups bag? I also love that it’s big!!

    1. I typically hate and do not use self-tanners so I was surprised it worked on me. I don’t want deep dark color so a little bronze is good, plus I can just wash it off!

  11. I have been seeing various posts on the May bag and honestly – I haven’t paid any attention to anything but the bag… I think that is so cute.

    1. I’ve always wanted one of the Breakups to Makeups bag so I was thrilled to get it! It’s so cute! But I’m very happy with the UD universal liner pencil and the Skone blue eyeliner pencil is very pretty etc etc. A good month from ipsy.

  12. Looks like you got a pretty good bag! I got the some of the same products- Urban Decay samples, Luxie brush, and CotZ tinted moisturizer! My bag says “Contents: My Life” and I think it’s super cute too and I like how it’s bigger than the usual bags we get. I love seeing what other people get in their bags!

    1. I was definitely happy with this month’s ipsy bag, Jesse. That’s so cool that your Breakups to Makeups MU bag has a different saying – in fact, I like that one better! Thanks for visiting and commenting 🙂

    1. Yes, he St. Tropez self-tanner really worked! The color is very natural. I don’t use it too often but it really can come in handy. Thanks for discovering one of my old posts!!
