Summer is finally here, though it’s still cool in MA. Regardless, I’m spending a lot more time outdoors gardening, jogging, riding my bike, playing tennis, or just walking around. It’s imperative to wear sunscreen! In fact, I just read that there are kiosks in Boston that are dispensing free sunscreen. How cool is that!
So since we’re all trying to make sure we’re protected from the sun’s harmful rays, I’d like to introduce you to StriVectin Repair & Protect Moisturizer SPF 30, a new moisturizer with sunscreen from iconic brand, StriVectin. I have always wanted to own StriVectin skincare. It has real science behind its products, and their claims are backed up by research.
I have a friend at my beach club who swears by StriVectin. Since learning about it from her, I always try a sample of various StriVectin products whenever I’m at a department store.
I was surprised and thrilled when I got a box in the mail from StriVectin a few weeks ago inviting me to try their new Repair & Protect Moisturizer with SPF 30, a wrinkle fighting daily moisturizer with broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen that reduces visible signs of aging, neutralizes free radicals and helps prevent UV damage. Yay, my first skincare product from StriVectin!
Like many of their other skincare products, StriVectin Repair & Protect Moisturizer with SPF 30 contains NIA-114 technology, a patented form of niacin called nicotinic acid (no, it’s not nicotine, lol!).
Niacin is one of the key skincare ingredients that I love to see in the skincare products I use because it helps skin repair itself from the effects of the sun and from the aging process, working from the inside out. (You can read more about it here.) Nicotinic acid stimulates the release of the hormone leptin, a natural repair hormone, that aids healing within the skin and aids in the reduction of hyperpigmentation. (A friend of mine who is a research scientist actually discovered leptin while researching the mechanisms of obesity!) I’m happy to have a facial sunscreen that provides such serious wrinkle-fighting skincare.
StriVectin Repair & Protect Moisturizer with SPF 30 is just about fragrance-free, meaning if I stick my nose in the jar I can almost smell a very faint, almost imperceptible fresh scent. But for all intents and purposes, it’s scent-free.
The moisturizer is creamy and very hydrating, great for my dry skin. Truth be told, I’d describe it as medium weight rather than lightweight as StriVectin says. I apply it, let it absorb for a few minutes, then apply my foundation. Because there’s dimethicone already in it, I skip my primer.
StriVectin Repair & Protect Moisturizer with SPF 30 is priced at $89 for a 50 ml/1.7 oz. jar. StriVectin is pricey but worth it if you can swing it. It can be purchased at major department stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom, at Ulta, and online at SkinStore.com, Amazon as well as on the StriVectin website. StriVectin is made in the U.S.

Marcia, thank you for reminding me! How did I forget? At any rate, I edited the post to include that important point. There is no real scent to this moisturizer. If I stick my nose in the jar, there is an almost imperceptible pleasant scent…but for all intents and purposes, it has no scent.

I know some people think StriVectin is nothing but a marketing gimmick, but my mom swears by their products. Her skin looks great, too!
I don’t know, Anastasia, since this is the first product I’ve tried. But I know that from everything I’ve read niacin-derived ingredients are definitely effective anti-aging ingredients. Plus everyone I know (except for the woman who raved about it to me some years ago) have great looking skin like your mom.
I have very oily skin so I’d like to see how hydrating this is on my skin xxx
You know, Laura, I should have mentioned that in my review. It is a medium weight moisturizer, but I think because of the SPF (even though it’s chemical sunscreen), it feels more like a dry skin moisturizer though the literature that came with it says for all skin types.
I have very oily skin, and I reviewed this, too. It didn’t break me out at all, and it’s one of my very favorite daytime moisturizers now. Even my husband loves it!

😀 I initially learned about niacin, actually niacinamide a slightly different chemical from the ingredient in the StriVectin skincare line, from Olay. And since then, I’ve read about niacin-derivatives on a number of skincare websites. I’m a believer!
This is one of the most expensive moisturizers I’ve tried, and I would repurchase it if I didn’t have a backlog of them. I loved it, and it didn’t break me out.

I have dry and sensitive skin, this product sounds right for my skin type. We are going for the summer outdoor adventures on bike. So I should carry with me and i am sure my skin would love this.

I love the niacin benefits this has. As I get older, not only do I have more trouble with dryness & fine lines, but also hyperpigmentation. The added SPF is a bonus!
