Bioderma Micellar Waters and Giveaway!

Did you know that micellar water has been around for more than 100 years? Neither did I  😉 Micellar water was developed out of research conducted at the University of Bristol in the UK in 1913, but it really caught on in France as a way to help Parisians deal with their harsh water supply.

Promotional Product & Links

Micellar water is made up of micelles, tiny oil molecules suspended in soft water. Micelles are attracted to dirt, oil and grime. They dissolve dirt and makeup without soap and without drying out the skin but instead leaving behind hydrated, clean, glowing skin.

Because France is where micellar water gained its popularity, no surprise that the most talked about micellar water comes from France. You know the one I’m talking about: Bioderma! Did you know that one bottle of Bioderma is sold every two seconds around the world? Amazing.

Bioderma's 3 micellar waters for 3 different skin types: Sensiobio, Hydrabio, Sebium neversaydiebeauty.com @redAllison

Bioderma was kind enough to send me their three micellar waters, each for different skin types and skin issues. In addition to the micellar waters, Bioderma has a range of skincare products for each of the three skin types. On the Bioderma website, I read up on how Bioderma designed the three product ranges to help each skin type combat their specific issues.

  • Hydrabio: Micelle solution for sensitive, dehydrated skin – blue cap/label; “the Aquagenium® patent stimulates the skin’s cellular capacities and reactivates its natural hydration process” within the upper layers of the skin.
  • Sensibio: Makeup removing micelle solution for sensitive skin – pink cap/label; “its fatty acid esters, the constituent elements of micelles, are similar to the phospholipids of the skin cell membranes
and naturally help rebuild the skin’s hydrolipidic film.”
  • Sebium: Purifying cleansing micelle solution for combination, oily or acne-prone skin – green cap/clear bluish water; “a new generation of anti-blemish treatments that directly act on sebum quality thanks to the Fluidactiv® patented complex.”

Bioderma Hydrabio Micellar Water neversaydiebeauty.com @redAllison

I have been using both the Sensibio micellar water for sensitive skin and Hydrabio for sensitive, dehydrated skin, and I love them both. When I returned from Arizona and my skin was soooooo dry, Hydrabio was just the thing. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated, with something “extra”. Now that my skin is in better shape and the weather is warmer and a bit more humid (though thank goodness, not too humid yet!), the Sensibio also works well for me.

Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water neversaydiebeauty.com @redAllison

Both Sensibio and Hydrabio remove my foundation and my eye makeup very well with no tugging. For the past month, I’ve been wearing Mirabella’s new waterproof mascara, and both Bioderma micellar waters do a great job removing it. When Jeff and I went to NYC last weekend, I forgot to bring my Bioderma MW with me and I didn’t have any makeup remover wipes with me either. What I had was good old Pond’s Cold Cream. Unfortunately, Pond’s wasn’t up to the task. It took forever to remove my waterproof mascara. So happy to get back to home to Bioderma and an easy time getting off my mascara.

The two Bioderma micellar waters have a pleasant, very light, floralish scent. One of my readers mentioned that she thought her bottle of Bioderma smelled like burnt rubber. I told her that perhaps she got a bad bottle because there’s no way mine smells like that. It hardly smells like anything, but as I mentioned. what little scent it has is a light floral scent.

Bioderma Sebium Micellar Water for oily skin neversaydiebeauty.com @redAllison

The third bottle, Sebium, is a Purifying Cleansing MW for combination, oily skin and/or acne-prone skin. Since that’s not me, I decided to hold a  giveaway so that someone who can really use this particular type of Bioderma Micellar Water will have a chance to try it for the first time or add to their stash if they’re already a fan. It would make a great gift if it doesn’t suit your skin type.

Before we get to the giveaway, Bioderma Micellar Waters are gentle and help balance the skin’s pH. They are available in 3 sizes: 100 ml, 250 ml and 500 ml. They are hypoallergenic, paraben free., alcohol free, soap free, and have no coloring. Bioderma is now easier to find in the U.S.: Bioderma can be purchased on Beautylish! The price ranges from $6.95-16.95 depending on size.

I wear the Younique Fiber lash mascara and I feel like the Garnier Micellar water I am using doesn’t take it all off, so I would love to give something else a try.

    1. That’s so interesting, Stephanie. I should break out my Younique mascara and see if it can get that off, lol. Younique Mascara would be the true “torture test” for any MW! Thank you for entering and good luck!

  2. Dana Rodriguez says:

I have been hearing a lot about Micellar Water lately and I like that it is gentle yet effective. I would love to try it for myself!

    1. Thank you, Dana, for entering the giveaway! Good luck 🙂

  3. I’ve only used the pink bottle so this is an interesting read to know which bottle is meant for what skin. I need to try the blue bottle, it sounds like it’s targeted for my dry skin.
Shireen L. Platt recently posted…BUDGET BEAUTY COLLAB with Style Sprinter: Makeup Under $30.00My Profile

    1. Yes, I agree: for dry skin, blue is the right one. I can use the pink too, but it doesn’t give my skin the additional hydration.

  4. This sounds absolutely amazing! I have combination skin-dry on the cheeks with the dreaded oily T-zone, and this sounds like the perfect way to gently cleanse my skin. I’m always prone to breakouts in the oily areas, especially when Aunt Flo is visiting. My skin always seems extra sensitive then so this would be perfect!

    1. I think so too, Jen. Glad you entered! Good luck in the giveaway!

  5. I’ve had no luck with micellar water yet. The ones I’ve tried just don’t remove makeup that easy and fast, I need several cotton pads and lot of products. Right now I am back to standard makeup remover to be honest.
Simona recently posted…BornPrettyStore holo 23#My Profile

    1. That’s too bad, Simona. Both Bioderma and Garnier work well for me. The waterproof Mirabella mascara that I wear comes off quite easily with them both, and my foundation comes off too. But we all have to find what works for us!

  6. Laura says:

I have a face full of zits right now. My skin is going bananas this summer. Help! lol

    1. Oh no, Laura! That is definitely unfair. I’m glad to hear from you – you’ve been on my mind! And I’m glad you entered 🙂 Good luck!

  8. I would love to try this because I have been hearing people rave about it for so long! I have suffered with sensitive, acne prone skin for years and it’s been such a challenge finding products the remove makeup, hydrate my skin, and aren’t irritating. I am hoping this is the one!

    1. I think this one is made for your skin type, Katie. So glad you entered. Good luck!

  9. Rachel R. says:

I’d like to win this because I’ve never tried it, or any other micellar water. I’ve heard nothing but raves about Bioderma.

    1. I was so happy to get to try it too, Rachel. I’m glad you entered. Good luck!

  10. I’ve never tried micellar water, but lots of people rave about it. I’m currently struggling with combo skin, so the formula you’re giving away would be exactly what I need!

I happen to have combination skin and it’s so hard to find a product that doesn’t dry out the skin or make it feel too oily. I would love to try this product it sounds like Sebium would be just right for me.

    1. It does sound perfect for you, Annamarie! Thank you for entering the giveaway and good luck 🙂

  15. The next time I shop at Beautylish I want to try the Hydrabio. I am using a brand new bottle of the Sensiblo now and I think it’s wonderful. I notice a teeny weeny fragrance and you know I’m super sensitive to fragrance.

    1. teeny weeny is right, Marcia. The Hydrabio is more hydrating as you’d expect than the Sensibio, but I like them both. I think the Sensi is good for summer!

  16. These sound fabulous Allison! I have only tried the Garnier Micellar water.

    1. I still love the Garnier. I think Hydrabio has more hydrating ingredients than the Garnier, but I like them both 🙂

  17. This is a true story. The last time I was in England I bought like half a dozen of these because they are a lot cheaper and still hard to come by here stateside. I ran out and now I use Garnier but I still think Bioderma is the best makeup remover that wont leave my dry skin feeling like sand paper. Thanks for the giveaway, Allison 🙂

And Bioderma is a luxury French brand considered either “the” best or at least one of the best. Sebium is great for oily/combo skin. Glad you entered, Edye. Good luck!

  23. Love Micellar Water! It is so lightweight and doesn’t feel as harsh as other products!
