Skincare Faves from 2020

There were not too many good things that I can say about 2020, but as always I did have some excellent skincare discoveries during the past year. I have tossed the empties from some of them and I have a feeling I may have forgotten others, but here’s what comes to mind!

I Bought This, PR Sample, Affiliate Links

Murad Essential-C Day Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30/PA+++: I have about another inch to go in this tube of daytime moisturizer from Murad, and I am sad about it. I love the light citrus scent, the just rich enough without being too rich formula, and the tube. It is also part of my skin brightening routine. I got this full size tube in an Ipsy Plus Bag last May or June, and it was one of the skincare products that made Ipsy worthwhile for me in 2020.v

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum in the full size pump bottle

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum: Speaking of my brightening routine, Derma E’s affordable, lightweight, citrusy Vitamin C Concentrated Serum was a wonderful discovery this year. If you haven’t tried it, you should.

Magari Liquid Youth: Toward the end of 2020, new-to-me Magari Liquid Youth, a hydrating anti-aging mist, that I use as an essence twice a day is a delight to use. It goes on light as a feather and gets absorbed by my skin in a flash. It truly is a big drink of water with anti-aging benefits for my skin. The plumping it provides makes my fine lines less evident in both the short and long term.

pump bottle of Theraderm OPC Reparative Serum

Theraderm OPC Reparative Serum: This hydrating dermatologist-created golden liquid treats redness, minimizes fine lines and wrinkles and protects against environmental damage to skin. Good stuff!

Theraderm Gentle Action Application Pads: I adore these waffled, exfoliating cotton pads for applying toner. You can use them twice, once on each side. They’re affordable and they do double duty in more ways than one.

Theraderm Reversion Spot Treatment PM: This past summer, my face broke out on occasion from wearing a mask on hot, humid days. My old trusty Shiseido product that I used to treat occasional blemishes was discontinued, so what to do? I discovered Theraderm Reversion Spot Treatment PM. This lightweight, drying cream with tried and true drying ingredients benzoyl peroxide and kaolin dry up pimples overnight. A little goes a long way.

black and gold jar for City Beauty Multi-Action Sculpting Cream and golden scoop

City Beauty Multi-Action Skin Cream: I love this rich anti-aging cream that helps lift my jowls and minimizes my marionette lines and vertical lip lines.

PCA Skin Ideal Complex Revitalizing Eye Gel: I probably shouldn’t have this fabulous eye gel in my Best of 2020 Skincare post because I didn’t discover it in 2020. But I rediscovered it in 2020.  Here’s the description: “anti-aging  eye treatment with next-generation peptides, cell extracts and growth factors to strengthen, firm and lift the skin around the entire eye area.” This is an amazing eye gel especially if firming is your concern. Unfortunately, it is pricey, but I bought 3 tubes on sale during the holiday season. For my skin issues, it is worth it! And if you look around, you can usually find a deal somewhere!

DefenAge 6-Week Perfection Neck Cream: Oh DefenAge, why do your skincare products have to be so darn expensive? I know, because they work so well. I adore 6-Week Perfection Neck Cream. I love that it is the perfect weight cream for hydrating and firming the skin on my neck: not too thick, not too thin. I also love the airless pump it comes in. I’m hoping this jar will last me forever!

Theraderm NuPeel Natural Fruit Enzyme Peel: This fast acting, gentle fruit enzyme peel is one of my two favorites that have replaced The Body Shop Liquid Youth Peel as my twice a week way to get rid of dead skin cells. It’s very lightweight, and it makes tiny little beads that are easy to wash away without leaving any sticky residue on my hands or face. Plus at $30 for almost 3 fl. oz., it’s affordable.

V10 Plus Water Based Peeling Mask: I also love this antioxidant-packed peel. It is the perfect weight gel. It starts to bead up almost immediately, and it removes dead skin cells without leaving any sticky residue on my hands or face. I would say that this gentle peel is my very favorite this year, but the downside is that it is a little more expensive than the Theraderm.

Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas Primer: I bought this wonderful, super lightweight primer with anti-aging benefits back in the spring when I somehow thought that maybe this pandemic wouldn’t go on so long. I certainly haven’t needed a new primer this past year since I seldom wore foundation. However, using Tatcha The Liquid Silk Canvas Primer on those rare occasions when I wore foundation was a joy. It is so smoothing, so lightweight, and makes my skin feel like velvet. I bought the full size bottle, but it also comes in travel size that is a good choice to try it out.

My post has been up for at least 5 days now, but I just remembered I forgot one of my very favorites for 2020: Derma E Skin De-Stress Calming CBD Cleanser. Even though my skin isn’t particularly stressed or sensitive, I LOVED this creamy, hydrating, fragrance-free cleanser with CBD. Try it!

So these are the baker’s dozen skincare products that really stood out for me in 2020. What were your skincare favorites?

  1. Great reviews. I love anything Vitamin C. Right now I am using Paulas Choice Vitamin C with my Retin A. I am down to the basics. At 71, I was wasting way to much money on skin care, finding the basics was the way to go.

  2. i love those cotton pads. i have been using them for years since i discovered them, they are great. i love the Theraderm line but so expensive. i love the toner.

    1. I find that Theraderm’s product vary widely in terms of pricing. I would love to buy another bottle of the OPC Serum, but I don’t have a spare $85 now. Yet, some of the products, like NuPeel, the cleanser and a couple of the moisturizers, are a good value. I think they did have a sale during the holidays, but I missed out.

  3. I really want to try that neck cream! For me, the skincare item too expensive to use again, but oh how I want to, was Chantecaille Flower Harmonizing Cream. *sobs*

    1. I remember strolling through Saks in Boston several years ago back when $ was less of an object for me. And I spent several minutes drooling over the Chantecaille counter. Why I didn’t pick up a few goodies back then is beyond me! The Flower Harmonizing Cream sounds divine, but I’m even afraid to look at it online because I know I would be tempted!

      1. Trust me, the cream is every bit as good as you think it is. I had the chance to get one jar at a bargain price. It is not in my budget at retail. *sobs* I hope someday you can stroll through Saks again and splurge to your heart’s content!
