My Almost Valentine’s Day Outfit

For Valentine’s Day, Jeff and I had planned to have a special dinner at home. He bought a New York strip steak and two lobster tails at Whole Foods, so we could splurge on surf ‘n turf. Plus he bought the most gorgeous Valentine’s red velvet cake at the fabulous Yum Bunnies Cakery in Belmont MA. And we had blood orange martinis.

I had planned to “dress up” a bit for dinner even though we were celebrating at home.

The prior week, I found myself in beautiful Rockport MA to buy my usual heart shaped candy box filled with dark chocolate ginger for Jeff. After making my purchase, I couldn’t resist running in to Sand Castles boutique for their annual 50% off sale. I don’t think I have missed their sale in at least 10 years. Here‘s a past sale spree.

I came away with a couple of sale tops for me, and I bought a cute baby outfit and teether for Jeff’s daughter’s soon to be born baby. For one of the tops, I definitely could have used a size small because it was so oversized (they didn’t have a small), but at half off I couldn’t resist the pretty black, red, beige, and lavender print peasant look blouse from Easel Clothing.

The top became the core of my Valentine’s outfit. I paired it with lightweight black jeans that I already owned from Buffalo David Bitton Jeans, style Vale (I can’t believe that Costco has become my go-to store for jeans!).

In early November, Jeff and I met our friend M. at the Lydia Pinkham Open Artist and Artisan Studios event in Lynn, housed in an old factory. Jeff bought me a handmade red enamel heart on a rose tone chain. I planned to wear it with my new print top.

And to finish the look off, I decided to wear Olive and June tomato red CV nail polish, a perfect match for the red in the top and on my nails (I cleaned up the mistakes that I couldn’t see in this photo afterwards). I love this red!

During the afternoon, Jeff and I went snowshoeing at Appleton Farm, a beautiful spot a couple of towns away. The temperature was 17 degrees, and the wind was howling, making the windchill below zero. But we dressed warmly and headed out for an hour of stomping around in the snow and ice. I wish I had taken some photos to show you, but it was too cold to take my hands out of my gloves to take any pictures! After an hour with the sun going down, we called it quits.

I had intended to shower and change my ski pants and thermal shirts for my Valentine’s outfit. But I somehow managed to screw up my blogpost for Tuesday, and I had to spend an hour and a half redoing it. So much for showering and changing.

We ate our fancy surf ‘n turf Vday dinner in our snowshoeing attire. My outfit at in my closet at the ready. I’ll have to save it for another time. Hope you had a fun Valentine’s weekend. <3

P.S. On another note, ColourPop is having a last call sale with prices up to 80% off. There are palettes for as low as $4 each. If you’re in the mood for a little shopping therapy, now might be the time.

  5. Hi, Allison – It’s interesting to see how other couples do Valentine’s Day who have been married a long time like us. Our Valentine’s date is still to be determined because the weather has been so bad that hubby got sick. His plan is to take me to a fancy restaurant and buy me a new blue-tooth speaker. And speaking of jeans from Costco, that’s where my husband gets his jeans and I got my classic pair of dark denim by Calvin Klein – the ones made famous by Brooke Shields’ “Nothing comes between me and my Calvin Klein jeans.” It’s true; they fit like a glove! 1. Actually, Angie, we’re not married but we’ve been together for 20 years, lol. We haven’t been to a restaurant since October, but I hope we will go again in the spring. I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets her/his jeans at Costco!
