Experimenting with My Healthy Nails Thanks to Olive & June

The State of My Nails

Over the past 3 months, I haven’t exactly been taking the best care of my nails. Yet, thanks to Olive & June and the occasional Natrol Extra Strength 5000 mcg Biotin tabs, my nails look pretty darn good. I’m hoping that people will look at my nails instead of my jaw and neck, at least for the time being.

Biotin

I started using Natrol biotin at least 8 years ago ‘coz that’s how old the photo below is! In the past, I took one a day. Lately, I’ve been taking them less often, but I will hope to get back to my daily routine.

They are strawberry flavored, yummy, and they are meant to dissolve in the mouth. I buy mine at Costco, and at 250 tablets, they last me for more than 8 months.

Olive & June

Over the past few months, I haven’t been wearing nail polish. However, about once or twice a week, I have remember to apply Olive & June Nail Strengthener. I keep the pink bottle on my night table next to the bed. The nail strengthener sinks into my nails on contact and dries immediately. Easy peasy.

Over the past week, however, I have been playing around with polish. I think the gorgeous, true red polish from O&J CV that I showed in a photo above is just stunning! As I have mentioned previously, Olive & June is my favorite polish because it lasts on my nails for a week to 10 days. I put an extra coat of Olive & June Super Glossy Topcoat on at night to help it last.

Although I love many of the Olive & June shades that I’ve tried, there have been a few disappointments. For instance, Budino, the butterscotch shade above that I bought for autumn, is not my favorite (and I didn’t do a good job applying it). Recently, I thought a few other shades that were disappointments. For Valentine’s Day, I bought a limited edition Be Our Valentine mini-bundle that included Lovey Dovey, light pink hearts suspended in a light pink clear shade.

Lovey Dovey was a disaster. I couldn’t get the hearts out of the bottle. The few hearts that I did get onto my nails wouldn’t come off with the usually very effective O&J polish remover. I really need to toss that one, and I will probably toss Cupid Who?, the Black Heart Sequin Polish that will probably be as bad as Lovey Dovey.

The other day, I reached for a deep purpley shade that I forgot I owned.

Olive and June Mermaid Hair

When I applied it to my right hand, I remembered that it’s called Mermaid Hair, and it came with the Be Our Valentine Set of 5 minis shown above. Applying Mermaid Hair over bare nails results in a very, and I mean very, subtle effect.

When the light shines on it, you can see the blue-green effect. In the future, I will try it over a pale blue with a touch of aqua O&J shade, Honest & True, that they describe as a “serene blue”.

I decided to try Mermaid Hair on my left hand over polish, and I reached for a pale peach shade, Wild & Free. Not sure it was the best combo, since you can’t see Mermaid Hair unless it’s bright sunshine out.

Since I’ve been singing the praises of Olive and June polishes for a few years, I thought I should show you a few misses. But in spite of a few fails from Olive & June, it was fun to try them out, especially in the mini version. Though I must admit that their opaque polishes like the bright red, CV, are my faves.

BTW, Olive and June has a promotion happening now where you get $10 to spend in the future if you spend $40 now, and $25 for the future if you spend $100. I wish they had the Overnight Hand Treatment in stock now ‘coz I’d probably make the $40 level.

What do you have on your nails at the moment?

    1. Taking some biotin really should provide some help for your nails and hair, Gloria. I do like the Natrol coz it tastes good, and it works for me. Now that the weather is starting to warm up that should make a difference for your nails as well, right?
