I recently read a couple of reviews by younger beauty bloggers of Revlon Photoready BB Cream that were quite positive, so I thought I’d give it a try on my “mature”, dry, sun damaged skin. Torture test, right? I’m looking for a BB cream to use when I don’t feel like taking the time to put on foundation. Also, I wanted a BB Cream with SPF30, and Revlon Photoready has it.
Revlon Photoready BB Cream comes in 3 shades: light, light/medium and medium. I chose light. Product information says that the product can be used alone or with skincare products (ie moisturizer). On Revlon’s website, the product is billed as a multi-tasking product, as follows:
– HYDRATES like moisturizer
– SMOOTHES like primer
– COVERS like foundation
– BLURS FLAWS like concealer
– PROTECTS with SPF 30 like sunscreen
After my shower, I applied Revlon Photoready BB Cream just as a BB cream is supposed to be used: in place of moisturizer and regular foundation. It’s a thick cream and seemed promising as is. But it didn’t work for me. My skin looked dry and wrinkly. Not a good look. I washed it off.
Because I’m a “regimen person” (I don’t mind going through a bunch of steps with different products), I went through my normal skincare routine: I put on hyaluronic acid serum, Salma Hayek Nuance Daytime Moisturizer SPF30, and Revlon Photoready BB Cream on top of that. As you’d expect, my skin felt very nicely moisturized. However, my face looked too greasy. My bad! You can’t put on as much moisture as I did and expect it not to look greasy! Next time, I’ll use a lighter moisturizer without SPF and try it again.
Unfortunately, the Revlon Photoready BB Cream wasn’t able to cover my dark spots, but it did tone them down a bit. And it took down the pink in my cheeks (in a good way) and gave me a somewhat more even look. This isn’t the most flattering photo, but it gives you an idea of the coverage. And you can see how greasy it looks with my added daytime moisturizer.
After I took the photo, I dabbed concealer on my dark spots and dusted with a little mineral veil, and I was finally good to go. As time passed, the greasiness seemed to have gone away. Five hours later, my skin still feels hydrated, and it has a nice finish.
Have I found the perfect BB Cream for me? Not yet. But I think Revlon Photoready BB Cream may be a good product for women with younger, less dry and less spotted skin.
The plastic, recyclable tube is upscale-looking and attractive in a sophisticated grey. I purchased the product at CVS for $11.49 for 1 fluid ounce.
