My New Sunscreen: Marini Physical Protectant SPF 45

I’ve been using Jan Marini skincare for several months now. When I went for a long overdue facial last week, the esthetician told me  that my skin was looking good. Yay!

My favorite among their skincare is the Marini BioGlycolic Cleanser. It’s a miracle worker as is their amazing Hyla3D hydrator serum. I’ve also been using Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33. (all three products reviewed here)

But a few weeks ago, I was sent Marini Physical Protectant Broad Spectrum SPF 45 to try out. I usually prefer physical sunscreens like this rather than chemical when possible. Though the difference is small, SPF 45 vs SPF 33, the new sunscreen gives me a little more protection.

Marini Physical Protectant SPF 45 is a medium weight (IMO), velvety feeling cream. Although the cream itself has a tan tint, it goes on sheer with only the slightest warm tint on my light skin. It has no white cast like some physical sunscreens do.

It dries to a satin-matte finish, and it’s not greasy. Also, it’s fragrance-free. I love that it’s in a tube so I can carry it with me to reapply.

In addition to protecting from the sun’s rays, it acts as skincare too: “Glycerin keeps your skin hydrated while rich antioxidants neutralize free radicals. Micronized zinc and titanium block UV rays and soothe irritation.” Key ingredients include: Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Dimethicone, Green Tea, Coenzyme Q10. According to Marini, it’s good for all skin types: mature skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, oily skin, acne-prone skin. But if you’re sensitive  specifically to dimethicone, skip this one.

Beautypedia (Paula Begoun of Paula’s Choice review system) gives this product a rave, so it’s not just me. Check out Beautypedia’s review.

Marini Physical Protectant Broad Spectrum SPF 45 contains 2 oz. and is priced at $51, on the pricey side. Available on the Marini website, Dermstore, Lovelyskin.com. As you know, I’m a penny pincher so Dermstore with its frequent 20% off coupons and Ebates rebate is the way to go to save more than $10 off the price. Cruelty-free.

    1. This and Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector are my faves, but Marini Physical Protectant SPF 45 works as a moisturizer for me too so it has the edge!

  6. I’m now into hybrid sunscreens, with both Zinc Oxide/TiDi and something chemical. That takes care of all the shortcomings LOL.

    1. You’re probably smart to do that. It’s confusing. Consumer Reports says that physical sunscreen doesn’t work, but chemical sunscreen can cause cancer. What to do??

  7. This sunscreen sounds nice and I like that it doesn’t give a white cast to the skin. However, my skin hates dimethicone so I wouldn’t be able to use this. 🙁

    1. So many skincare products contain dimethicone these days, it must be difficult for you when it comes to moisturizers and primers 🙁 Fortunately, dimethicone is my mature skin’s friend.
