SEPHORA by OPI At-Home Gel Manicure System

Just got news from Sephora about the introduction of their brand, spankin’ new at-home gel manicure system.

“nothing to disclose”

For those of you who grimace every time you spend $75 or more to have gel applied at the nail salon, this is worth a look. The system includes the brush-on gel formula (base coat, topcoat, and color), an LED light that dries the polish in 30 seconds (can that be true?), and most important of all for me is the removal system that takes the polish off “instantly”. You get to choose one of Sephora by OPI’s 16 gel shades, and the selection is quite representative of today’s nail shade trends. The kit also includes other manicure necessities like cuticle oil, cuticle pusher, buffing block, nail wraps for removal, and nail pads (not sure what they’re for). Also included are gloves. Now, if you’re doing this on yourself, how do you use the gloves?

SephorabyOPIThe system isn’t cheap. It’s $159, but Sephora is currently offering a discount of $17.50 online plus free shipping. If you take into consideration that one gel application is about $75, the Sephora by OPI system will pay for itself in less than 2 applications!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with a gel manicure, it’s a long-lasting, very shiny polish that’s applied like regular polish but is dried with UV light. The manicure lasts for 2 weeks and does not chip, not at all, even for people with problem nails like mine. The dicey bit, when you have it applied at a salon, is that you have to go back to the salon to have it removed with heavy-duty acetone, and my salon charges for the removal.

I am very curious about this system. Not sure whether it’s available in-store yet, as I was at the big Sephora in Boston on Friday and didn’t see it. So, at this point, here’s something for you early adopters who love the gel manicure.

What do you think about this? Anyone considering taking the leap?
