La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid

The summer is almost over, and the beach club I belong to closes for the season in 3 weeks. I’m very sad about it because I love the short New England summer. Nevertheless, the good weather – no longer hot but still sunny – usually lasts through October (though I remember a number of snow days in late October). That means I’ll continue to jog outside, starting biking more often, and close up the garden for the season. So I still will need to wear a good sunscreen. I’m sure lots of you live in areas where the sun and hot weather continue on for months, and outdoor living and sun exposure is a year round thing.

A couple of months ago, I read about La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid on Prime Beauty Blog, and I saw it mentioned again recently on someone else’s blog (sorry I can’t remember whose). It had been in the back of my mind all summer. This summer I received so many sunscreens and moisturizers with SPF that I didn’t need to purchase any. I used up quite a few, and I must say that I really liked the sunscreens with physical sunscreen ingredients from MyChelle the best (MyChelle sunscreen review here) for my face and body.

But yesterday, I had a 30% off coupon from CVS burning a hole in my purse, and I decided to finally buy the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Sunscreen. It comes in SPF 45 and 60, and I went for the 60. It works to screen both UVA and UVB rays.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid

I was absolutely shocked by this stuff. It really is a fluid, a white thin liquid. I applied some on the back of my hand, and it absorbed in seconds and completely disappeared. I mean completely! Nothing left behind except a bit of smoothness and shine. On my face, the fluid is the best absorbed sunscreen (that’s not a powder) that I’ve ever used!

I bought this specifically for use on my face, though it can be used on the body as well. Typically, I hate layering up face products in the summer and adding a separate sunscreen to the mix, so I usually use a moisturizer with SPF and CC cream with SPF. The ones I was using most often were often heavy and/or left a white cast. They work, so I put up with it. But now that I have the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Sunscreen, I can apply a moisturizer without SPF and a primer and lightweight foundation without SPF if I want to. Yay!

I think La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid is nothing short of a miracle. Although its active sunscreen ingredients are chemicals rather than physical sunscreen ingredients, I am going with it. La Roche-Posay is a very reputable French skincare brand. It’s water resistant, fragrance-free, parabens-free, non-comedogenic, allergy tested, dermatologist tested, and tested on sensitive skin (I hope that means it’s OK for those with allergies and sensitive skin!). Like any sunscreen, it needs to be reapplied after 80 minutes in the sun. I will use my Brush On Block SPF 30 for that purpose (Brush On Block review).

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid comes in a slim plastic container with 1.7 fl. oz. of sunscreen. At CVS, the regular price is $29.99. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s well worth the money. Made in France.

    1. It really is amazing. The lightest weight sunscreen (that’s not a powder) I’ve ever tried. I was happy to pick it up during the 30% off sale at CVS!

  2. I’ve been needing to purchase a new day-time moisturizer that has sun screen. This stuff looks great! Thanks for sharing!

    1. This isn’t a moisturizer, Katie. It is only a sunscreen fluid, spf 60. It is so lightweight that I prefer using it on its own along with a regular moisturizer instead of the heavier moisturizers with sunscreen that I had been using.

      1. Ahhh, I see now. Hmm, I’m so lazy when it comes to skincare, I like having both in one. Good to know it’s lightweight, though — I hate feeling like I’m piling on thick creams. I feel like I always am left with a film that I could just rub off!

        1. I hear ya, Katie. In the winter, I make do with a moisturizer with sunscreen, but in the summer, I often apply a separate sunscreen for additional coverage. Plus, most of the moisturizers with built-in sunscreen that I own are much heavier than this including the ones with chemical sunscreen that I had hoped would be lightweight.

  3. I’m always looking for new sunscreens to add to my arsenal. This one definitely sounds like a must try!

  4. I just saw a video yesterday on YouTube that mentions a lot of sunscreens I was unfamiliar with. I’m pretty sure this one was mentioned. Seemed like La Roche Posay makes alot of them.

    1. They do, Tess. And they have lightweight sprays too, but I wouldn’t use the spray on my face. I am very impressed by this one!

  5. For SPF60, this doesn’t leave a whitish cast or a sticky residue? I’m off to the LRP counter!

    1. Very, very little white cast and residue, about the least I’ve ever experienced. It’s worth it to try the tester at the LRP counter and see if it’ll work for you. I was blown away because the moisturizer/sunscreen combo products are MUCH heavier and whiter, and my other facial sunscreens were also heavier and white.

  6. This sunscreen sounds really nice! The thought alone of putting any more products than I have to on my face in the summer makes me sweat. It’s really hard to find a good face sunscreen. I’ll keep an eye out for this!

  7. I know just what you mean about layering products! This sounds like a real winner, and I don’t even mind that it is a chemical, rather then mineral, sunscreen. It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to a close!

  19. La Roche-Posay makes excellent sun screen, I have their Anthelios 40 sunscreen cream and it’s fabulous under makeup.
