For the Shiniest, Softest Hair: Darshana Natural Indian Oil

My hair washing routine has been very spartan: shampoo and conditioner. Every now and then, a deep conditioner or hair mask. I was aware of the new oils on the market, and on occasion, I would use one on my ends after conditioning my hair/before blow-drying.

A couple of weeks ago, I was sent a new hair product to try out and review. Darshana Natural Indian Hair Oil. This oil is used in a different manner from the other oil I had tried previously. Darshana is used before washing my hair. The instructions say to use it a half hour or more on dry hair before washing. It even says you can apply it at night and sleep with it, washing it out with shampoo the next morning.

Today is a rainy, dark day, and I decided to stay home and let my errands wait. I applied the golden oil with my hands to my scalp and on my hair from roots to ends. I have a lot of thick, coarse, shoulder-length hair. I thought I was using a lot of oil, but when I checked the 6 ounce bottle, it looks like I hardly used any! After applying the fragrant citrus-scented oil, I combed it through to distribute it better, especially to the coarsest underneath hair. Then I worked on my blog for about 40 minutes.

I took a shower and washed my hair with my usual shampoo, Briogeo. Be Gentle. Be Kind. Sulfate-free Shampoo. After one shampoo, it felt like the oil was almost completely washed out. I missed a couple of areas near my temples so I did a second shampoo with just a little shampoo. The oil rinsed out easily, and it felt like it was completely gone. I was afraid the floor of my bathtub would be slippery and covered with oil, but it wasn’t. I was afraid maybe I washed out the effects of the oil since my hair didn’t feel oily. Silly me. Next, I applied Just Natural Hair Color Care Hair Conditioner, and rinsed it out after 2-3 minutes.

Since my coarse hair is exceedingly frizzy, I used John Frieda 3 Day Straight like I always do. I blew dry and flat-ironed my hair as usual.

Then, wow. My hair is so straight, so silky soft, and so blindingly shiny I can’t believe it. I did not at all expect such a big difference! Darshana Natural Indian Hair Oil went way beyond my expectations!

I wish it were a nice day out because I’d love to go out and show off my blindingly shiny super red hair. I had my hair colored about 9 days ago, and the color looks even brighter now than it did right after it was colored. I also wish it were sunny out so the photos I took would have shown my hair off to even better advantage. But hopefully you’ll be able to see my results!

Although my hair was in decent shape, Darshana Hair Oil took it to the next level. It is ah-maze-ing! I definitely recommend giving Darshana Natural Indian Hair Oil a try especially if you’re trying to get your hair to look its best for the holidays.

It is appropriate for all hair types and conditions: color treated, dry, unmanageable hair, curly or straight hair.  It comes in the 6 fl. oz. size that I used for $38, and a 2 ounce size for $18 if you want to check it out without a big commitment. As mentioned above, it is natural and cruelty-free. It’s made in the U.S. You can buy it on the Darshana website or on Amazon. On the Darshana site, they are now having a BOGO promotion for the 2 ounce size!

  1. Wow, your hair looks AHMAZING for sure! How would you compare this to the Arvazallia oil you reviewed earlier, the one you put in after you shampoo? Also, what is that beautiful lipstick color you are wearing in the photo?

    1. You use them differently: Darshana is used before and Arvazallia after so you may need to take that into consideration. I got much more noticeable and “feel-able” results from Darshana! In the photo, I’m wearing the Starlooks lipgloss I got in my September ipsy bag. I adore it!! The shade is Guilty Pleasure.

It looks like similar to argan oil; just a tiny amount needed, not greasy and leaves your hair silky and shiny.
Indian people know what hair products should include, I wish they could add some Indian genes to get silky and long hair fast 😉

    1. Thank you, Dima! I was blown away by the results! Indian Oil is similar to argan oil. The difference with this oil is that you use it at least a half hour before washing your hair. You apply it to dry hair and leave it on for 30 minutes to overnight, and then wash your hair as you normally would. The argan oils that I’ve used instructed me to apply a little bit after shampooing. Who knows? I could probably use both each of the two ways!

  26. Well, I think you can use both oils in both ways.
The argan oil I have is made by the locals in Morocco, a friend of the family bought it for me when he was visiting Morocco few months ago. The bottle’s design is not fancy, but it is pure, natural argan oil that was cold pressed. I LOVE it! And I apply it at night on dry hair just the way you described.
You know I love natural stuff, and I was lucky to be able to get it 😀
Wish I could send you some !

    1. I wish I could go to Morocco, Dima, to pick some up! I’m glad you got some from your relative. I have some golden argan oil that I use on my ends from time to time. I will alternate!

  27. I wish that, too!
My husband got his BA degree there, and he says that Morocco is absolutely fabulous!
I think argan oil will work well on your hair both ways.
